Sneaky bum time - Vaccination status: dozed off
Such a class player when on form. Was really good last night.
Nah you're right I get that a misplaced pass shouldn't even matter after his performance last night, like iv said he was good and it's nice to see him come back into the team and play like that. I don't want to make a case against Nani being a bad player because he's brilliant all im saying is that he has an annoying style of play at times, he can dribble around 3 players then knock the 5 yard pass to a teammate out for a throw in, that's the sort of frustration I get at times while watching Nani. He does the hard things extremely well and the easy things he makes look difficult at times, it's just something I find annoying.
Because it was a simple pass that could have led to a goal/chance. It didn't take away from his overall performance but you can see why some people would moan at not doing the simple things right, even more so after he's just shown what he's capable of. All im saying that he's a top player but at times he's frustrating.
I think it bodes well for the player and the team. It can only serve to our benefit we can bring players from the bench who can make a difference.
Hope Nani starts at QPR.
Valencia has been consistently poor in the last few games, and has created pretty much nothing of note.
Nani looked so so much more dangerous when coming on last night, he did more in 10 minutes than valencia did all the first half.
When playing well (and he played well for a long time before his injuries) Nani looks a class above those around him..
Great to see him back and putting in a very good performance.Hopefully he can keep it going and find some consistency from now on.I love the directness of his play, not afraid to have a shot and baffles defenders with his unpredictability.
That's what I've always said. It's always good to have players that are willing to take shots from distance. Especially one with the technique of Nani.
Before he came on, we looked very short on ideas. In fact, we at times looked almost Arsenal-like. Sometimes you need that player that's going to take a few risks when the chips are a bit down and Nani has always been that type of player.
He changed the game the moment he walked on the pitch yesterday. I say unleash the Nani against our next few opponents, including Real. By my calculations, we'll need three goals to go through to the next knockout round.
Just saw his goal now. What a superb piece of skill. Such quick and accurate feet, what a first touch that was.
I don't understand how we've let it get to a situation where in we face losing him for a value that does not represent his true qualities. I know we are 12 points ahead in the league with minimal contribution from Nani but if we are to replace him with another player of similar talent, quality and productivity then we'll have to spend well in excess of 30m.
Manchester United winger Nani started Monday’s FA Cup tie against Reading on the bench and ended it a hero.
The Reds’ brightest spark by some distance, the Portuguese scored one and set up another to send Sir Alex’s men into the quarter-finals, where Middlesbrough or Chelsea now await.
Broadcasters ESPN wasted no time handing Nani the Man of the Match champagne at the final whistle, while users on ManUtd.com have also voted the tricky winger the Reds’ star man. By some distance, too. Indeed, despite impressive performances from captain Nemanja Vidic (who bravely battled on, bloodied after an early collision), Tom Cleverley and Alexander Büttner, Nani garnered 85 per cent of the vote.
It’s an overwhelming victory and one that will mean a lot to the 26-year-old who’s been forced, largely through injury, to play a supporting role this season. One national newspaper even described him as “the forgotten man” this morning.
True, Nani hasn’t hogged many headlines in recent times (why would he when a hamstring injury sidelined him for 15 matches and more than two months?), but United fans’ memories aren’t so short. They still remember the player who, in 2010/11, contributed as much as anybody to the Reds’ record-breaking 19th league title and was widely regarded as one of the world’s most dangerous wingers. They still remember the player who terrorised Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield last season and delivered the final, fatal blow with an ice-cool injury-time winner.
And it’s precisely because Nani is capable of scaling such heights that supporters have, on occasion, been quick to jump on his back. Different standards apply to those who are different class, and Nani, as we saw on Monday night, is certainly a rare breed of footballer.
He can light up matches with the drop of a shoulder, a cheeky backheel, a driving run or long-range rocket. His courage to take the ball in tight spaces and faith in his ability never wavers. He believes he can make a difference, and often does. When the Reds lack tempo or struggle to break down stubborn defences, it’s Nani, time and time again, who conjures something out of nothing.
Sure, not every trick comes off and there have been times when he’s shot when he should have passed, or passed when he should have shot. He’s not perfect. But what you always get with Nani is a constant desire to place himself at the centre of United’s play, take responsibility and affect change.
He did exactly that on Monday. Sir Alex’s men lacked inspiration in the first half, but within minutes of his introduction Nani crashed a 20-yard volley against the post and drew a smart save from Royals goalkeeper Adam Federici.
In the second period, he took the game by the scruff of the neck, running at defenders and linking with Antonio Valencia on the right flank before breaking the deadlock with a superb goal from 15 yards. Three minutes later, he whipped over a tantalising cross for Javier Hernandez to nod home at the near post.
It’s no surprise Nani romped to victory in our Man of the Match poll: he was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch. Now his challenge is to convince Sir Alex he’s worthy of a consistent run in the starting XI. If he does that, Nani may yet play a leading role in United’s charge for three major trophies. Fit and firing on all cylinders, there a few better players in England.
*Said I'd wait until the Nani explosion calmed*
He was very good last night. He was given time on the ball and utilized it very well. Goal aside, his play near the end when he set Wells off was class.
Don't go too OTT just yet though. It was Reading and we know he has this performance in him. Its pulling that off and adding to it. Almost a certainty to start the weekend and I desperately hope he picks up where he left off.
Did Fergie praise him in his post match interview?
Did Fergie praise him in his post match interview?
"His contribution was terrific," Sir Alex told the club's official website.
"Just after coming on he had two great strikes, one hit the post and the other one was saved. In the second half he got us the opening goal and I had the feeling he would win the match for us.
"I think he deserved it. He's a fantastic talent. You could see he was right on form when he came on. He's a good addition. If he keeps that form, it makes my job more difficult."
I've read a few comments like, 'calm down on its only Reading'
None of our wingers were doing what he was against the same Reading, or in previous games against 'lesser' teams
In terms of technical ability, before this season I'd agree, but RVP is technically our best player IMO.
He was terrific, nobody can deny that. I've also noticed since his come-back that he seems to have cut most of the unnecessary bullshit and when the ambitious pass/play isn't on, he makes simple (correct) passes.
Now if he can be like that week in week out or at least every other game, we're tremendously placed for the season's final hunt.
Good piece from Nick Coppack as well, although he went slightly ott at times.
Find a way to play him against Madrid, Nani will be fired up like possessed. Nani, Kagawa, Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck will be too much for them to cope with defensively. I can't wait for the return leg.
Although I admit I had to look up Świdnik on the internet to find out where it is, I couldn't agree with you more, Tomuś.
On his day Nani is extremely difficult to cope with. Although I think we'd need a bit more defensive grit than what you're suggesting here, Fergie should seriously consider going with Nani and Welbeck v Real next time. He probably won't go with Kagawa so that he can go with Cleverley, so something like this:
Keeper and back four, who need no introduction here
Carrick/Cleverley
Nani/Rooney/Welbeck
RvP
This means no Jones (to deal with Ronaldo), but based on what Nani showed us yesterday that seems like a decent tradeoff. You could drop Welbz and have Valencia on for defensive duty, I suppose, but either way the stars seem aligned for Nani. But let's see how he deals with QPR and/or Norwich first.
