He was clearly rusty but there were some good signs, should have had what would have been a very good goal as well if it weren't for a great clearance.

Hopefully he starts at the weekend as well.

Don't quite think he's ready for a start away to Spurs IMO, he's not up to speed like you say. Did he beat the RB more than once today?

I think Giggs and Kagawa on the wing if the wizard can manage it.

Welbeck and Kagawa on sunday I reckon.

Good shout, Giggs as the game changer if need be. Nani or Valencia on the bench? I doubt there will be space for both?

Welbeck will be rewarded after his good game against Liverpool. I reckon we will line up similiarly to the Newcastle away game. Valencia out of form, Nani just back and Young injured. It makes sense.

I thought he did well considering it's his first game in ages. After a long time we saw a winger other than Giggs take on his full back (and beat him) and he had some good link up play around the box with Anderson and Hernandez. His end product wasn't the best today but he did put in a wonderful cross second half. Can't wait to see him and Rooney around RvP.

Yes, a number of times.

He beat his RB a number of times and got fouled on a couple of those occasions which weren't given.

Probably would've been given if he didn't throw his hands in the air when falling over as if he had a bloody gun pointed at him.

He found himself out on the right once the entire game tonight and put in the best cross of the night. He has to start there from now on!!

It was refreshing just to see another technically outstanding performer in the line up. He's one of a very select few players we have who wouldn't look out of place playing for Spain or Barcelona in that sense. We should start him whenever it is possible/wise. I have huge respect for Valencia as a player and refuse to get dragged into any knee-jerk reactions regarding his ability, but Nani should no doubt be starting ahead of him at the moment.

I saw a couple of contentious fouls that weren't given, they were dubious though.

Im pretty certain he didn't beat his man properly more than once perhaps twice in the game? Not having a go, it's understandable rustiness.

To be fair, I don't really remember him beating his full back much either, but at least he actually tried to.

Most of his good play came from one twos and link ups with Giggs and Anderson.

This. He does his best work on the right and I was really disappointed he didn't start there. I believe he'll get games there soon with Young/Giggs on the left.

He has missed 15 games and this is his first game back, what a player he is. One of the best wingers in the game, to add that to a already strong side must be frightening for our rivals. What a great player!

I have nothing special to comment on performance, it was solid, nothing more, nothing else, but I just hope he won't be dropped after first shit performance.

He needs games, not one or two, he needs at least one month to raise his form, I hope he will get his good run of games.

What I saw out of Nani today was everything I expected. He's been out for some time and despite making some errors trying to force the issue, he showed what we've been missing on the wing.

He'll definitely need a few more games to reach some good form but the signs are quite promising. He came back at the right time.

Yep, wasn't at his best tonight by any means, but I think he's entitled to a few games at least. I think because he has so many tools and facets to his game, he probably needs time to put them all together so that they are all working in sync. He can dribble, play it short, cross, shoot, play through balls - all with either foot. I guess to be the player you can be, you need to constantly be mixing up these assets in play, so a lack of sharpness will hinder seriously, as his game has too many pieces. Hopefully he'll shake off the rust by end of the month and add some smoothness.

This can go in the Valencia thread as well. How in the name of feck can a winger hit the side netting when crossing a ball. What annoys me even more is the lack of amazement that they can be that shit.

People have strange expectations. He was out for months, it will take at least 3-4 games until we see him hit some good form

I thought he was decent last night. He tried to keep things easy and quick

Strange reaction from the crowd towards him last night. Definite frustration with 1 gimp shouting "You'll never be Ronaldo!" at him. Way to go retard.

There was definite cheers when he was subbed off too.

I thought he had moments where he was dangerous but on the whole it was a 5/10 performance which isn't too bad considering the period of time out and I wouldn't give anyone anymore than a 6/10 for last night. Apart from Giggs. Obviously...

I thought he did alright, was always going to be a bit rusty and lacking match fitness, I thought it was great to see someone constantly tryin to take on people, it didnt always come off but it never will, he shot a few times when he could have passed but he also looked to link up as well. At the end of the day he'll always be that sort of player, he'll frustrate because he tries something hard similarly to giggs but when it comes off these are the players that will change games.

Good to have him back at the end of the day.

He was alright in the first half but roaming around, trying to do too much in the second. His was drifting inside or moving to the right too often. As a result West Ham were released of the pressure on the left and were able to attack from that side. He would have made more of an impact and helped the team better if he stayed on the left.

He was obviously rusty after being out for I don't how long and will gain sharpness with more game time. I think he would be more effective if he played on the right. He is a better player there than on the left. We also have a better defender with younger legs on the right, who will cover for him.

He drifts inside because he's not a natural winger. He always wants the ball and wants to create something. He always drifts, plus we were creating nothing from the right. Funnily enough our best cross from the right was from Nani.

Can't believe fans were cheering when he was subbed off. Idiots. They do realise he has been out of action for 2 and a half months, yet last night was still involved in some of our best build up play and almost got a return goal had it not been for a great clearance. Short memories some fans have.

Indeed.

Why do players miss pens? Misplace passes? Etc etc.

I'm just imagining Maradona running at full pelt down the right wing bring pressured by a left back and trying to put in a cross on his right.... obviously he'd hit a cross or 2 into touch.

And that's the best player ever, same goes for Messi by the way.

We like to big our fans up but as I said in the Valencia thread, we have way too many dickhead fans.

That is why I said that he should play on the right as he is more effective there.

Drifting inside is alright but being on the right and leaving the left side exposed doesn't help the team. It is fine when you are interchanging with the other winger or other attackers but not when Valencia cannot play any where else but the right.

If you watch the game again you'll notice that most of West ham's attack came from our left in the second half because they were free on that side and Buttman got isolated. Their left back and player on the left were released of the pressure to guard Nani and attacked at will.

That's a good post! Not sure about Nani not being a natural winger though. He's normally quite good at crossing with his left also, so I don't think one match should define his crossing.

He had a decent match, far from spectacular, but not bad and no worse than Rooney. He was unlucky not to get a goal, and Valencia was unlucky not to get a clever assist.

Yes, let's judge a top level professional footballer against what I can do on a park. Perfect sense.

You do realise telling somebody you've never met that they don't play football is about as stupid and dull as it gets don't you?

I've gotta agree with MrMojo on this one, having played football isn't relevant. Our wingers are professionals at the top level. However difficult it may have been to put in a cross keeping it in play is a bare minimum.

What IAR is saying is true though. It's like saying Hernandez has clinical finishing - why didn't he score against 11 men behind the ball for 90 minutes.

It's the toughest skill of the winger to increase speed on the dribble and then on the cross. It's not as though he's talking about a routine schoolboy skill on the ball.

That's what wingers are supposed to do!

Sunday league & 5-a-side, wooooooo!! Ha ha

As I thought, not really played. Just a shite Sunday league player.

This is all getting silly now.

Can't you both just ignore each other? Let's face it, this argument isn't gunna go anywhere but further down hill.

Indeed. It's fecking daft.

If it's that idiotic a post then really it shouldn't be worth you arguing endlessly over.
