Luis Nani | 2012/13 Performances

I was thinking that it means he's out of general contention at the moment.

If he was left out today and NOT because we're planning to start him against Real, than it's probably curtains for him at United.

Might be the case Amir. I think the chances of him starting against madrid are slim. Looks like we might go with 3 strikers again.

I do think we will throw him on if we are chasing though. A shame really. He really isn't that poor defensively anymore and he is clearly the most skillful out of all our wingers.

I don't really know what we'll do against Real and whether Kagawa's performance today might change that. But if Nani looks like he's coming into form only to be left out for two matches in a row - the first of which sees Valencia getting another chance - than there's probably not a whole lot more to say.

Aye. Just mentioned this is the Valencia thread. Given his MOTM against QPR last weekend it'd be extremely harsh to follow that up by dropping him for the following 2 games.

People seem surprised by all of this. If he was going to be staying at United, we'd have him signed up by now surely?

I am basing this on nothing concrete but am I seeing a different scenario developing to everybody else?

- Dropped continuously because of massive inconsistency
- Not signed a contract
- We sign one of the hottest prospects in English football - who just so happens to play in his position

Am I seeing something different?

Even though he hasn't played many games maybe were holding him back for Tuesday. But you'd think half an hour today would have helped him along. And if he isn't playing on Tuesday why not involve him today? Hopefully he just signs a new deal soon so we can stop second guessing stuff like this.

He's a goner. He'd have definitely played some part today if he was to feature in the Real game.

Am I seeing something different?

Probably not. But he's still our player, and he did start last week in a match just as important. So while I can see he may not have a future with us beyond the next 2.5 months, I'm not sure how we're viewing his current situation.

Why would he? Rafael never played etc.

Rafael has played almost non stop the entire season bar the odd rest. Nani's coming back from an injury and needs minutes to get in the groove. totally different conditions. Rafael's been preserved for the Real game. By not giving Nani minutes today, we gave up on the chance to give him actual match conditions. Unlikely to start such a massive game considering this.

I think he's definitely off if he plays no part against Real.

Would rather see Valencia or you or young go. Both good, not great.

I wouldn't be against Nani starting against Madrid but I also wouldn't be devastated if he was dropped either. If Nani plays we will end up dropping either Welbeck or Kagawa who IMO both deserve a start.

I'll gladly leave if it means Nani & Ash stay.

 There have been maybe 2 or 3 times where I have read through a thread and seen a potential one-liner, scrolled down a bit more and you have beaten me to it.

You have a good wit, Sir.

Cheers, LCB. :)

I was only messing, Adebesi. :D

Pfft, not until they change back to their traditional colours, mate. :D

Jones injury. Anyway we'll see what happens!

But I thought it would be 'suicide' and a disastrous move, surely a manager as good as Sir Alex would know not to start him over Valencia just because Jones is injured, or, does Jones being injured have nothing to do with that whatsoever, given you were arguing Nani would never start over Valencia tonight.

Well we shall see then. If Nani has a world class performance I will gladly eat my words. I feel that whats been getting you results all season worked best.
Prove me wrong tonight Nani, prove me wrong.

No Kagawa?

Great to see him start this. Hopefully he does well.

delighted for him. didnt expect it at all. hope he tears them a new one.

By the way I didnt actually say I would start Valencia over him against Madrid I said he wont start because I assumed the formation with Jones in it as they started vs Reading was the best one.

Since Jones is out Im guessing that's why Nani starts.

If you;re going on sudden form why doesn't Kagawa start?

 When the hell did I get that?

I don't even hate Anderson!

Cleverley.

He doesn't need a world class performance, he just doesn't need to make massive glaring mistakes according to your earlier fears of him starting. That's far too simple an approach to take. You can't think because United have been winning, every player on the team is playing to the best of their ability, it very obviously does not apply to Valencia, so I still can't see your point. Unless you're suggesting we've been winning matches all season because of Valencia, it surely does not apply.

The main reason I felt it would be suicide was due to Nani having hardly played not because I feel Valencia is currently as good as him. Therefore changing what had worked all season seemed very risky to me.
