Luis Nani | 2012/13 Performances

I hope the injury he picked up isn't too serious, would be a real shame if he were to be sidelined for an extended period again after building some good form lately.

I just hope he realises that he has a big future here and signs the damn contract before the summer starts. Where can he realistically expect to go from here.

Our performance really went to shit after his injury. I'm not saying he is solely responsible for us playing well, but he really does make a huge difference to our attack. We need the options he offers us both out wide and through the middle, something we can't get from Young or Valencia. When we're struggling to spread it out wide, like the second half, Valencia is left isolated because his entire game is to play along the line, which if he's allowed space is fine, but without confidence and like he's playing now, he really can't do anything attack wise, or actually, anything at all. With Nani he can adapt and move from either flank or play through the middle, the link-up play and ability to pass under pressure is crucial for us. He is so far ahead of anything we have right now winger wise it's not even funny, and we certainly can't replace that quality with anywhere near the funds we would receive from his transfer. I'm not sure it has ever been more apparent than right now how much we need him.

For the love of god get him signed up, watching Valencia was fecking painful

We really need him back asap. I simply can't take 2 more months of Valencia giving away the ball to opponents and shooting to the corner flag.

I had to laugh at a genuine comment the missus made during the game. It was also quite unexpected which made it funnier. Yeah she likes to watch the game but she isn't an out-and-out fan. Regarding Valencia she turns and asks

"How come Valencia keeps doing the same 2 or 3 moves that the defenders have already worked out early into the game?"

Fair feckin question I say

I hope Valencia's performance is convincing SAF to pay him the 10-20k extra to swing the deal for us if its about the wages. Our best winger by a fecking mile. offers so much variety to our game.

SAF (on Nani's Hamstring Injury): I don't think it's too serious but he had to come off

Thank god.

If he didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck at all right now. :( We certainly lost fluidity in attack when he went off, him going off wasn't the sole reason we were so shit in the 2nd half but it was a factor.

No coincidence that when he came off we went to shit

By far the best winger at the club and brings far more to the team than anyone else. We should do everything we can to keep him and hopefully after todays shambles Fergie will get this contract sorted.

I really want Nani to get a run of games. With the lack of games he has had this season, he could end up being our freshest and best player from now until the end of the season.

Wasn't the original prognosis on his last hamstring injury 10 days when he missed 2 months?

You haven't been following this thread have you? Go back and check the bollocks that was being spouted back when he was out injured. he wasn't injured at all, SAF sent him to his room to consider his career at United.

We simply play better football when he's on the pitch, I hope the contract gets sorted sooner rather than later.

Colin, keep the multi-quote function handy the next time he has a less than inspiring performance.

It went too shit about 15mins before his injury.

Notice how the detractors have all gone quiet now?

When his wide men counterparts are produced the most dire football of their careers and kind of just returned out of the blue, it's been a breath of fresh air for everyone.

In theory we were doing well enough without Nani, but since he's returned he's had a big influence on our forward play. Now in our last two games he's gone off for completely different reasons and we've played with a lot less conviction once he has departed (probably just a coincidence to be fair).

Was playing really well before coming off. It's annoying because with Valencia playing like rubbish nani really is missed as without him we don't have any attacking wingers down the right side. At the start of the game we had nani/rafael streaming down the side with these great moves, yet basically nothing down that side once valencia came on. Really hope he isn't out for long

The only positive about the injury happening right now is that with the international break coming up, he's not going to miss many games.

The main reason I felt it would be suicide was due to Nani having hardly played not because I feel Valencia is currently as good as him. Therefore changing what had worked all season seemed very risky to me.

Yeah, but the problem is I really don't think you know what you're talking about. I can't know how much you've watched United this season, but if you feel Valencia is currently as good as Nani, you're really not paying any attention to what's happening. I personally think it would have been suicidal starting Valencia against Madrid, not Nani.

Also, Valencia has hardly been working this year.

I've made that point to him over and over again but he doesn't seem to accept it, although if you read his last 30 posts in here, I think it becomes a bit clearer.

I dont know why you suddenly bumped this.

You obviously dont read my posts because I stated that I used to feel Valencia was better than Nani, last season, but now I can see how awful Tony is playing, Nani is your best winger, that doesnt mean I think hes any better than I did before.

I didn't post in here after the Madrid game out of respect because technically my prediction regarding starting Nani was correct, and i'm sure you were expecting me to post about that. The difference was it wasn't Nanis fault and he was actually playing well until then, maybe I had some kind of premonition that led me to believe that somehow his selection would backfire even if it wasn't really his fault.

I started posting in this thread because Nani has been average/good/injured for most of the season, he then had one storming 45 minutes vs Reading and was hailed as a world beater again. Hes one of those players on here where you just wont accept criticism, like DDG, although with DDG I think he gets criticized unfairly.

Nanis a great player but hailing him as a world beater, and world class is delusional,( I wouldn't even class Mata as world class yet and its not like there's a debate on which one is a better player at present) I for one would actually prefer you held on to him because despite some great performances he can also offer such inconsistency he is often a welcomed by rivals on the team sheet.

There are a few different style of wingers this season. A fair few have had a decent season.

Malouda has played well.
Milner has attracted attention from bigger clubs with his good performances this season.
Lennon was outstanding up until he got inujured.
Adam Johnson showed something different for City when he arrived in January
Valencia made the void Ronaldo left look less significant than it was
Ashley Young has had a decent season once again. Good consistency.

;)
