Not a bad guy (Whale Killer)
I dont understand why Spurs can work out a cash + player deal for Modric. Madrid have a few unwanted players who they would like to get off their wage bill and Spurs need better midfielders to replace Modric.
I doubt Madrid really need Modric as they're already champs and on the cusp of getting the CL next year. Another year of their current squad playing together should get them there, with or without Modric. Jose is in a good position to where he doesn't need to break the bank...

No offence to Luca, but I'd rather have Ozil any day.
Mourinho's looking for cover for Alonso - there's no natural stand-in for him and he looked jaded at times last season. They also want an Alonso partner in games where Mou wants to run a safe possession based game, though Khedira has come on a long way in that regard.
They also see him as another player to join Alonso and Khedira, when they're playing a midfield three - they've used Coentrao, Pepe and Lass etc there but the formation usually looks anxious, rather than in control.
Do they need him? Probably not. The best thing they did for their team last year was basically keep the same players as they had the year before. Could he get in the team? Yes, as part of an improved Alonso, Khedira rotation, provided he plays well enough.

That's what was said last season.... There is a real possibility that ... Spurs will be left with one very unhappy player.
That's what was said last season.
But when push comes to shove, Modric would knuckle down and give it his best shot playing wise .... because he ain't going to want to be shunted off to play with the youth development squad all season, with his professional reputation in tatters.
And I suppose you'd be delighted to pay someone 70,000 (or whatever) Pounds each week to do that?
Obviously not. But the point is academic because it isn't going to happen for the reasons I gave.
To put it another way, if push comes to shove Modric knows that Spurs can damage him much more than he can damage Spurs. So he isn't going to engage in a fight he can't win.
All we've seen so far is some silly handbags arising from him being badly advised.
Wow, quite the happy family at Spurs I take it.
Modric apart, very happy. And the Modric issue will be resolved in due course ... one way or the other.

Do you think that this situation reflects in anyway badly on Spurs, or maybe might make some of the better players think twice about joining and dealing with the club?

The Guardian are reporting that PSG will pay the 40m for Modric!

Nice to know we are not the only team struggling to nail our transfers, even the mighty muppet madrid are finding it hard this year.

I wonder if United are still watching?
