If we sign Lukaku, we just have to hope Haaland ends up anywhere but United. He isn't a player that I personally want, but his scoring stats are undeniable. I'm not sure how Werner, Havertz and Lukaku all fit into a line-up but if Tuchel really wants Lukaku, he must have a plan in place. We didn't put a single bid in for Haaland. Jan Fjortoft kept pushing the Chelsea interest but we ended up putting in no bids so it's a bit of a stretch to call that a failed pursuit.

According to the Italians you had a bid rejected last Thursday, realised Dortmund definitely aren't selling and moved on. It happens.
We did the same with Sancho and expected them to budge, they're a very stubborn club.
Of course it's a failed pursuit. Bid or no bid you were actively chasing him for a good period of this summer before moving onto Lukaku

I think we have a better first eleven than Chelsea.
However your 2nd part, they are actually good at selling players and they'll receive some fundd for them. We have a bloated squad as well but give players like Grant, Jones, Mata extensions and want to go into the season with 4 keepers for some reason. Hanging on, with the likes of Daniel James who clearly arent of much use anymore.

Fair enough, I must have missed that. The Athletic reports Chelsea had two bids rejected for Lukaku, so unless Chelsea were simultaneously placing bids of over 100m for both Haaland and Lukaku, something doesn't quite add up.

Obviously not everything gets reported. I'd say the timeline goes something like you've tried for Haaland and the final attempt was last Thursday. Since then you've moved onto Lukaku and it's only started leaking now it's hotting up.

Literally my 3 favorite players in the World are black for the record, and yet I absolutely despised Lukaku playing for us. While I can't speak for others, I'm pretty sure a lot of people's problem with him are that he's an unappreciative, thumb-waving, lazy, sulky bitch with the touch of a slug.
If you'd seen him play for Inter this season gone, you wouldnt have such a sterotypical view of him. He was great for them. He's a top striker, who may just get Chelsea enough goals tonwin the PL.
Would be hilarious if he was added to the pile of Chelsea striker flops, but he would probably get very good numbers for them given the attacking talent they have. However, he would still look like a donkey at times and probably not tear it up in the big games.
The article about Lukaku made it seem like the bids were a while ago and Chelsea were gearing up for a 3rd bid, which we now know has also been rejected. Last Thursday was only 6 days ago, and the Lukaku article that carried the news of the two failed bids came out 2 days ago.
You could be right that it's the reporting that make it seem those things overlap but on the surface, it seems to me that Chelsea are either in a super rush to sign Lukaku or the Haaland bid you mention either didn't happen or happened much earlier than reported.
Think he would get really good numbers in this Chelsea team...... I still don't think he is worth the money mentioned though.
Also find it a bit weird that people keep saying Kane isn't worth a tonne of money because he is 28..... Lukaku is the same age and relies much more on his physical attributes.

Transfer can be a failed pursuit without even making a bid. It was reported by many outlets that you tried to sign Haaland. Maybe you tried and found out that overall cost is way too high or player wasn't that interested in the move and moved on. It happens almost all the time.
Do people dispute his goal scoring record? It's the on the ball ability that most agree is under par something he has slightly improved in Italy.

Yeah I agree. Clubs makes the decision that they think best suits them.
Also not sure why you think Chelsea gets lot of stick for transfers, at least on caf, people think Chelsea are the best when it comes to transfers. They think Chelsea complete every transfer so quickly, never misses out on their targets.
The thing about Lukaku for me is that it feels like you cant play another striker when he is at your club either and rotate - like he has to play every game or something; or he may lose his happiness at playing there with the rest of your team or lose his form.
Like as others have said - him being a consistent flat track bully against the smaller teams is nothing to laugh about because he will get you the points; but what do you do in matches vs United/Maguire/Varane or a match vs City/Diaz/Laporte/Stones?

It would just make you very versatile/flexible and give you plenty of options tbh. I wouldn't be suprised to see Werner play the majority of his games on the left or even in a few games you to go two up top.
It's not Werner minutes I would be worried about, I think Hudson Odoi, zycech and Abraham are far more likely to be worried in my opinion.
He's literally given a list of players who are not seeing game time and Chelsea are struggling to move on... Every club seems to have players that they'd be willing to move on but no bids are incoming not just us.

Lukaku has scored 20+ once in England, he never scored a lot of goals for United and had to join a league two notches down to prosper. Yes he scores goals, so did Darren Bent and Andy Johnson. The problem with Lukaku is that even though he scores (against all the weaker teams and never when it really counts), he does more harm than good for the other players at a top level. Tammy Abraham would easily score 20+ for Chelsea in the league if he played 35 games next season, but he won’t because he’s not the star power they want up top. Chelsea are going to regret going into all the big games with Lukaku, we all know he’ll score about 1 in 6 in those games.
Would love Chelsea to sign Lukaku if it means they aren't getting Haaland. It's one thing scoring in Italy but he was bang average for us in England and haven't regretted us selling him for a single moment. I don't wish him unwell and would be good to see him in the Prem again but wouldn't want him back here.
