The sprint and tackle on Lucas Moura in stoppage time was fecking brilliant. I can't imagine Shaw of old having that kind of gas and desire at any stage of the game, let alone at that juncture with a 2-0 lead.
The amount of people who never wanted to see him on the pitch again just a few weeks ago because Malacia had been half decent for a couple of games. It's always been painfully obvious that Shaw's talent is unmatched by any left-back we could realistically attain. When you have a player like that, you do what you can to play him into form.

Completely disagree with you. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you struggle to find consistency in your game, like Shaw has, then you need to start looking at cutting your losses. If he is, at this stage, able to turn it around, there would be nothing greater. His talent is undisputed. His first touch is sublime; he has great short passing, and he is both fast and strong. However, at the beginning of the season he was dire. He lost a foot race he had no excuse for losing, which resulted in a goal against. He was overwegith and plainly unfit. That was the reason for that goal. There is no excuse for a professional footballer to be unfit, and he has been so many times over.
The talent is there, but the application has always been the issue. You do not do what you can to play him into form. He has to pick himself up and do what it takes. You are basically advocating that we continue trying to fit players into the team based on talent. Talent only gets you that far.
Malacia should start wearing Jose mask to motivate him further.
More like a season or so. I get your point though.Credit to Luke he loves a fight for his place, it's just a shame he never stays at this level for much longer than a month or 2.
Never seen him work so hard like last night.
He has Maldini levels in him when he’s on it.
He's good but he is nowhere near to Maldini![]()
At what cost? Should Ravel Morrisspn still be part of our squad? Should you play a clearly unfit player who is directly involved in conceding goals because of said fitness issues?Strange principle. If you have all the talent in the world, and struggle to find consistency, you should probably work to increase consistency, I think that makes more sense.
Yep extreme hyperbole. He's good but he is nowhere near to Maldini![]()
At his best he’s Maldini good. If he had 10 years at his level from 2 seasons ago you wouldn’t be laughing.
He might have played 5 or 10 minutes of a game at Maldini levels, if he's lucky. He's a very good player when on form but come on now, don't be daft.
What you are saying is absolutely...correct! Also yes, this eulogizing of legends and turning them into faultless mythical beings (as opposed to very good footballers) is very grating. This is always how it works with former greats. It becomes as of they played a different sport to everyone else.
Maldini is a far better LB than Shaw, but that isn’t because he was twice the LB Shaw was when Shaw was the best LB in the world - it was because he maintained that level for far longer and then the stuff the record books really care about are also thrown in there in that he is a highly decorated player. Shaw is absolutely magnificent though - powerful, graceful, has the touch of a #10, speed of a winger, power of a centre half too.

Agree with all of that. Also this is his NINTH season at the club for god's sake and he's played consistently well in just two of them, falling out of favour at different times to Daily Blind, Ashely Young, Brandon Williams and Alex Telles. Consensus seems to have swung back the other way now on the basis of two or three really good performances but let's steady on and assess in a few months time. You can't blame his doubters for retaining some skepticism.Completely disagree with you.
