Nice to see the usual respect & acceptance of people's opinions 
If he wins the Europa League or the Fa Cup and we do well for the remaining games in the league I would give him his last year in charge here.

He's getting his last year anyway. He's beaten the shrews and the midgets, suddenly he's competent again. Who knows, we might get the holy grail of 4th next season!

Yawn at another VG press argument, how about he starts putting the media in their place, when his own team starts competing again and not needing the Europa league to qualify for the CL, because of the embarrassing form in the PL. concentrate on your own teams short comings VG, and not picking a thousand fights with a press guy for giving a pointless opinion in a rag piece. If I took a shot every time he had a problem with the press, I would need my stomach pumped and possibly a new liver donor.
The guy is a joke, he's in a European competition and he actually thinks he's doing a good job again, and takes the chance to give it back to the press likes he has proved everyone wrong, he's blooding kids, beating some minow teams, yea I'm a great manager. It's been a horror show of a season and in terms of the football played this season has been an utter failure. However, as is so often the case, every cloud has its silver lining. Just as was the case in Fergie's first 3 seasons. In fact, there are a lot of similarities with between Fergie's early years at the club and LvG's tenure so far. One key difference though, is that Fergie was was appointed after some very baron years, whilst LvG's tenure comes after United's most successful period ever.
Sometimes I think the fans need to take a step back, show patience, ignore what the media are saying and be more balanced in their opinions. But football fans tend to be very fickle and the expectations at United are some of the highest in football.
To be honest, I'm not sure what to think anymore. One thing I do believe in is that in order to achieve a prolonged period of success at the highest level, you need to have the right structure within a club and for a large part be able to depend on players coming from within the club rather than on expensive signings.

People claiming he's laying foundations and the club will be better off for it in the long run need to realize that for that to be true, there would need to be a coherent succession plan in place, with a sporting director, youth director and coach all pulling in the same direction when he leaves. There won't be, we'll still have WOATward going for players for their name recognition rather than their fit with the team's needs, and we'll most likely be hiring Mourinho, who'll want to play a completely different style of football and value experience over all else. At the end of Mou's 2-3 year tenure here, the kids LvG is blooding will be playing for bottom half PL/top half championship sides and whatever foundations LvG will supposedly have put in place will be non-existent or at the very least meaningless.

I can think of around two hundred fifty million differences between Fergies first 3 years and LVGs miserable run so far.
Do you genuinely think the media has an influence on fans?!? It's the terrible football, lack of goals, terrible team selections, mind-boggling substitutions & record-breaking bad results all season that we're basing our opinions on.
If only the club had had some 23years of success upon which to build a future-proof structure...
Utd fans can be viewed as spoiled & after Fergie, it was never going to be the same... But there's no way it should be this different.

Abundant space for kids from day 1?. Seriously, just go through the teams put out in the first few months of the season, and you will see how many players got games. I know you would go to your favourite argument of Shaw, Martial and Memphis being youth, but they are not 'kids' are they?. They are multi million pound players who were on the radar of every top club.
The likes of Varela, CBJ and Rashford were no where near the sqaud for the first few months of the season.
I never said that. I said we should be still capable of beating these teams. Saying that our team is not good/experienced enough, so we will have to sit through defeats against the likes of these sides, is just accepting mediocrity.
You conveniently missed the part where they are pretty much still in their winter break and probably not as match fit and yet we lost just the week before.
Being 5th in the league isn't as bad as the media have been making out according to this old fool. Great mentality for a United manager to have that.

I can assure you that we were even more dreadful then we are now in seasons 86/87, 88/89 and 89/90. We were absolutely dreadful and played a pile of shite.

I know Stan hated his guts, as well as other Brits over here, long before he was United manager. Probably due to his arrogant demeanour, which is a particular trademark of many a Dutchman.
So we beat two teams we should beat anyway, after an horrendous performance out in Denmark and some are wavering about if he should go. Tomorrow will tell if any progress has been made. If Arsenal don't win tomorrow, I suspect it will be more them being Arsenal than us being phenominal.

Yeah, there's no way we'd recover that. Would be 13 points behind Arsenal and still 7 behind City but with a game more.
Lose tomorrow and Id save the youngsters for the PL and go 100% for the cups, especially the Europa League

Then why do I see all the bull shit the media write repeated here over and over again? If all the fans would think for themselves the criticism would be much more diverse and different from what is written by non-fans.
It's quite a unique situation, not many clubs have had 23 years of success and it doesn't make the future any easier. Basically the structure was one central pillar taking all of the load. Take that one away and keeping the structure is a huge challenge. It's like Yugoslavia without Tito, Queen without Mercury, Apple without Jobs. It's ridiculous to assume that transition like that, if successfull, can be done smoothly.

Top 4 should be minimum. After getting us back into it last season, he should've been pushing for the title this year.
He will be gone in the summer so its just about trying to keep improving with each game and hopefully returning injuries will help with this. We have a good chance to win the FA Cup and possibly the Europa League if we can further improve on recent performances.
Thing is, LVG pretty much fluked this way into the top 4 last season. DDG put in some sensational performances to save his ass and that rare purple patch also went a long way. Either way it was far from comfortable.
The youngsters are the only chance we have of doing anything good this season. Play them every game.

I also think the last 16 of the CL should have been the minimum expectation too, and that was even before the draw was made, it definitely should have been after the draw, and depending on who they faced in the last 16 then QF would be the minimum expectation. Instead we got royally fecked in the CL and made an absolute hash of the League Cup when we should easily have progressed further and we are looking like a complete joke in the PL. I think it's only how poorly Liverpool and Chelsea have been doing that has made our position continually look slightly better all season. All in all, unless we win every game between now and the end of the season I think this season can be looked upon as an epic fail, and definitely one of our worst in the last 25 years or so, if not the worst.
I still like LvG and hate saying all that above, but it's the truth. It's a real shame and it upsets me having to say it as I really wanted him to succeed at United, I also think it's a shame that it's looking like he will be bowing out of football after such a shambolic season and after such a disastrous time in charge of his last ever club. I hope he can manage to turn things round, but the evidence isn't supporting that at all. The FA Cup will be tough with West Ham next and it looking likely Arsenal and Chelsea will still be left in. Arsenal will be going for 3 in a row, and we can only hope the PL will be a distraction, but Chelsea (assuming they beat Everton) will be looking to win it as well to avoid suffering a truly awful season, again we can only hope the CL will be a distraction for them, but that's not looking too likely, so the FA cup will be tough. I think the Europa League is going to be extremely tough too. The Dippers next, but even if we beat them there are still going to be some seriously top teams left in, Dortmund or Spurs, Lazio, Valencia, Shaktar, Sevilla and more. Definitely not easy either. I don't fancy our chances to be honest.

If it does get worse, then he definitely has to go. Some of his decision making has been a joke. Only getting a top name manager would enable us to sign good players. Yeah, I see your point completely. You may get a mercenary or two, but not much else. I think he should go as soon as the season ends anyway. If he wins the EL and FA Cup and got 4th, then obviously not, that would be ok, or two out of the three would be acceptable, but unless that happens, I think he should go. No point disrupting things more now though, and Mourinho has made it clear he wants to wait until the Summer before finding a new club, so I think we just have to stick with it until then, unless he goes on another mad losing streak, then get rid and bring in an interim.
If we are out of everything, then the club should announce what is going to happen in the summer. If people think LvG is going to stay then it will become problematic for the club. As you say at the moment there is no point changing or announcing anything.

I completely forgot winning the EL gives you entry to the CL, so I can see the logic in playing the best players in the cups and giving the kids a chance to play in the league, especially if they lost tomorrow. (hopefully not though)
