The only reason you could think Van Gaal would stay is if you're incredibly fatalistic about Utd, which with how bad things have been for 3 years I can sort of understand. Saying that though everything points to the fact that he'll be gone in the Summer. I'm 100% certain of that, especially with CL football gone.
If we win the cup I reckon he'll be given a week and then we'll announce he's gone, if we lose it will be within 48 hours.
I also think we'll see similar scenes to what happened with Pellegrini on Sunday if Van Gaal tries to give a speech after the Bournemouth game. I certainly wouldn't be sticking around to listen to any more of his bullshit.

But i think he needs to go because the weekend's result (although unlikely) might still get United CL next season, i have no hope of United playing exciting football, winning the league, doing well in the Champions League or reaching the semis. So i think he needs to leave. Whatever the result over the weekend or on 21st of May.

The football has been so bad under Van Gaal he's almost drained any enthusiasm out of me but last night was fecking pathetic. I'm still angry about it, I wonder if last night will be the final straw.
The fans at OT have been mostly apathetic with Van Gaal for the last few months but after last night I'm hoping there's more anger. No polite clapping as we go in at half time 0-0.

Surely a mixture of piss-takers and people who simply cannot be arsed to change their vote. The answer is self evident now anyway, the poll is hardly illuminating of people's opinions.
Id put walking on water down as another "knowing the club inside out" factor. Its nice but its not necessarily required for this particular job.
If I could walk on water Id be applying for jobs as a fisherman or a shark hunter. There must be opportunities in the leisure and tourism sector as well.
Agree with almost everything, except I do want us to win against Palace as I feel that LVG's fate is already sealed...but if it hasnt then God help us all.
What will really wrap up the season is if we're in a tight game with Palace and he decides to show his genius, make some twisted change or substitution, and we lose because of it. That would be the final insult.
We have one or two nut cases, but anyone who wants him to stay at this point is clearly an oppo fan.

All of what you say I agree with. But I hope we win the FA cup. I just want to feel good about something United related this year.
I think that Morgan, Bastian and Michael are pretty much the same player at different stages of their careers. None are particularly mobile. None of them have a real physical presence. They are all technically proficient, with Morgan being behind Carrick and Bastian with his passing. It may improve in the future but he's never going to be a Scholes imo. All of them can do well if given time and space to play, which we will rarely be given. Age and injuries have hampered Carrick and Bastian in particular. Also Morgan struggles in the holding role.
Mata and Herrera are again very similar in style. Very technical players with an eye for a pass. I would say that they are both best utilised in the No.10 role, but how many times have they been deployed there this season? Mata is often stuck out on the wings where his lack of pace, strength and inability to defend adequately often makes him a liability. Herrera hasn't really been given the opportunities to really stake a claim. They can weave pretty patterns but could you really count on them in a dogfight.
Fellaini is a player who is strong and combative (somewhat thuggish) but he lacks the technical ability to really be a success here. Rooney can't be really blamed for our midfield woes cos.he's only played a couple of games in that position. However he isn't a natural midfielder. I'm not sure how long he can reasonably expect to hold that position.
So you see we have a midfield thats good at passing to each other but struggle to do much more than that.

Apart from the Palace bit I agree with you.
We have posters here who have supported the club much longer than I have but I do wonder have they seen times much worse than this? Not in terms of results alone but more in terms of the sheer helplessness one feels when one can't make a difference to the current situation of the club and the direction we are heading in.
The worst times I have seen in my time as supporting United are the Moyes tenure and the current one. And frankly the current one is stinging more, not because I have a short memory but more because of the complete inaction and indifference the board seems to be showing with regards to the current managerial regime.

I feel the same way. I just want it to end.
I get the impression that the club and players (in some cases) are completely detached from the fans. The club certainly is and has shown a complete disregard for the fans opinions. They seems to think that keeping the fans happy is churning out yet another shirt or sponsor. When actually getting rid of the manager will lift the spirits of the majority of the fans and I suspect the players.
You dont actually have to go back that far to find worse times for the club than this.

I also think social media accentuates the problem. When things were bad in the old days - and I was a kid when SAF joined the club so my personal perspective on things was very different back then, but looking at this objectively - people didnt have the caf, they didnt have Twitter, they didnt have Guardian CIF pages or any number of other venues where they could vent and read other people venting. I think - I assume - in the old days people seethed about things privately but not having a global audience to rant to all day long meant it didnt escalate in their minds and consume them, the way it does now.

The first 3 stats are god awful. I don't know which is worse now. Moyes, a manager in shoes too big to fill or LVG, a manager in flippers and claiming they're great shoes.
That's an interesting perspective and something that I would concur with. The emergence and the subsequent boom of social media platforms has had both positive as well as negative affects. The amount of vitriol people spout on the social media is unbelievable and certainly one of the bigger problems with it.
As you mention it probably hurts more because we have been so successful for a long period. Also I have always considered our club to be as big as the likes of Barcelona,Bayern and Madrid. So to see us struggle and not succeed while watching them take it to the next level stings.
Years ago people would have just gone down the pub and had a moan over a pint, or smashed a few windows.

It may sound arrogant from me but whether we'll win or not the FA Cup will mean feck all to me. The season has been dead for a long time and each match (with a few exceptions here and there) felt like the process leading up to the execution. After Moyes I felt so angry but this is so different, I'm having trouble finding the exact words. I just want LVG to go as he should have many months ago.
