Maguire | he stays!

Assuming we’re signing Amrabat and Todibo to replace Maguire and McT, pretty clear that we’re signing backup players while West Ham are signing for their first team. Signing Amrabat or Todibo would be very risky to them and may turn out to be extremely bad investment. We could stomach the risk because they’re back-up for the time being.
Amrabat a risk for them as a starter? Or even Todibo? Come on. There is a big difference in quality standards between a club that wants to challenge for the title and a club who was fighting relegation last season. And who is fighting for survival this upcoming season after losing their 1 elite player. Maguire is a good player for England. He would be a good player for many teams in the league. He isn't a top player for clubs in the top 7. That's all there is. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be an excellent CB for any of the others.

Two of those in Mainoo and Mejbri are kids whilst Amrabat would be coming to a new league in a different country, Eriksen’s legs have gone and Casemiro is 31-32 so needs to be used right so we do need 8 people for 3 positions when you think about potentially 60+ games and injuries.

I don’t see McTominay as being good enough to start BUT as a squad player in a box to box role rather than a Casemiro back up he’s a good option to have, he’s much better when allowed to burst forward rather than a defensive role as positionally he’s awful and hides but further up the pitch he’s decent.
I hear you, but still think it's too many. Players needs to be close to the team and fight for a spot - if there's too many before them then they lose their fight. We have a starting 3 in Case, Mount and Bruno the 3 to challenge them, an extra 2 would lose hope to get in. Imo.

I think he’ll turn out a cracking signing for West Ham, even moreso than McTominay, who’ll do well if provided more freedom to get up the pitch, but will fail miserably if asked to takeover Rice’s role.
Getting England’s starting CB for 37m is a good bit of business, no matter how the internet community will try to paint it.

I can't comment on Todibo but saw a fair amount of Amrabat at the back end of last season when we knew we had them in the final.

Decent player, will put in some hefty challenges, but he would have been sent off in the PL for the tackles he was making in the final thirty minutes of the ECL final.

I think it's best solution for Man Utd and Harry to move. He needs place with less pressure (at least from media). He was incredible in his first year but after that he felt down rapidly. During game against Atletic he didn't look better.

Eh, it's a cup final, player putting that bit extra on the line for his team. Not a huge deal.

Some advice for Slabhead, run a mile in the opposite direction from any armband that’s handed to you.

He needs a new start not a repeat. Learn from your mistakes please.
Him getting the armband at West Ham isn't far fetched though. Noble has retired and Rice has been sold and not sure anyone has been named as captain, let alone an obvious choice in their squad.

You’re the one claiming he’s failing up, which is clearly ridiculous.
He's horrific, can barely make it through a game without gifting several opportunities to the opponents, he's a meme and now his next boss is guaranteeing him a starting spot and the captaincy.

In reality, he should be signed and that's it. What's with all these extras privileges?!

As brutal as it is, this is why clubs sometimes freeze players out completely and have them train away from the first team. Kills all hope the player has of getting back into the team and forces them to find a new club.

Perhaps. I don’t think Maguire necessarily needs frozen out, though. If he agrees to move then great, it works for all parties, but if he hangs around then we’re probably going to need him at some point.

If you just said that in the first place you’d have had no arguments, but by no metric is he failing UP.

65M-70M and please lets get it done soon. That's more than enough money for Amrabat(25M) and Todibo(35M).

Considering West Ham would have to deal with Maguire's big salary too, £30m is more than satisfactory.

We'll never get an offer like this again for him if we don't sell this summer.

But then, why doesn't West Ham buy Amrabat(25M) and Todibo(35M) themselves? It would be cheaper for them, better players, and a lower salary too.

It's fantastic. Good man Moysie, we might actually get the deal done if this convinces Maguire to go.

Why would they join West Ham when there are bigger clubs interested?

If he's smart he will decline. This move doomed both him and Ole.
Disagree. Maguire was starting to find his feet as a captain then Ronaldo really upset the balance and harmony. He was fine before that and was coming off the back of a good season. I remember being quite disappointed that he got injured for the Europa final as he was missed!

Think the reason 30M was turned down is because West Ham won't be dealing with his salary and we would have to compensate him to the tune of something like 10M for the difference. There is speculation West Ham are willing to up the salary offer in order to make the 30M price tag more attractive to us as opposed to offering us a bigger fee, probably better for them in terms of accounting I would guess.

Because they are only "interested" and made no offers?
Or because they have had sufficient interest and believe in their talent to arrive at a big club eventually rather than settle at West Ham? Players like Amrabat and Todibo simply would say no to West Ham in this situation because the chance exists for them to join a big club. It might not happen, but they'd rather stay and hold out on the chance it happens. And once their agents say they are willing to join others who are not Man United if that offer never comes, then far more clubs would bid.

People have really selective memories here (surprise)

At Leicester and at United between 2019 and 2021 he was one of the best CBs in the PL without a doubt. West Ham fans are idiots if they aren't happy for this potential deal. Would single handedly make sure they stay up.

The high line argument is silly too because Ole played a high line. He also played Maguire at LCB even though he's more comfortable at RCB just because he had more confidence in Maguire to play a less comfortable position than in Lindelöf or multiple CL winner Varane...but apparently he's "bad on the ball".

Also funny how people will claim that randoms like Todibo are the "better players" whilst I bet that they never watched the guy play for a single minute.

If he's smart he will decline. This move doomed both him and Ole.

Ronaldo doomed Ole...I agree that Maguire shouldn't be captain though, even if the WHU captaincy doesn't come with as much pressure as the United captaincy.

West Ham have been in Europe three years running - one of only four English clubs currently in that bracket. This transfer window is about maintaining and building on that, and WHU may have approaching £250m to spend this summer bearing in mind how much is being raised in sales. It isn't about relegation.

Maguire is seen by many West Ham supporters as a short/medium term option at best; one who has been overpaid, may have questionable motivation and someone whose confidence and reputation has been shredded after the repeated criticism and lampooning. Other longer term or more cost effective options are perceived to exist, but Moyes wants some experienced, homegrown players who are deemed to be captain material. We are also talking with Ward-Prowse.

West Ham have to bolster the homegrown contingent. It's why McTominay is also of significant interest. Harvey Barnes was lined up only for an internal recruitment reorganisation to scupper it.

How exactly can they build on cup competitions? They got 40 pts in the league last season and sold their absolute best player.

The ruined confidence part I agree with, that’s the only potential danger in this one for them. Still very much worth taking a gamble though.
