I swear if this slabhead feck costs us Kim Min-jae because he's too proud to admit he's behind Martinez, Varane, Lindelof AND Shaw I'll flip.
That would work or at the very least don't let him keep privileges he hadn't earned during his time with the club.
Get recruitment right so it happens less. Become less well known in boardrooms for saying yes to everything, like pulling out of the Rabiot negotiations last summer, only doing it for years where we are being treated like the mugs we currently are…That being said with Maguire we’ve played it well. He gets plenty of games, he plays well enough to attract teams to enquire I’m sure, we don’t treat him like he’s not good enough re the captaincy, anyone that buys him can say they have bought the United captain. He’ll be a stalwart for any club outside the top 4.
What would they be?
I don't think that's the case. I think he still hopes to get in to the team.Of course he doesn't want to leave. He'd surely have to take a pay cut and he knows he can sit on our bench and be our cheerleader without risking showing how bad he is every week.
Captaincy, shirt number and make it clear he isn't the first or even 2nd rotation option anymore.
Smalling was a true professional tbf, he never had any unearned sense of entitlementWhen Ole told Smalling he'd be a rotation option, he asked for a transfer (he was the same age as Maguire is now). And he didn't have an England spot he was trying to keep hold of, he just wanted to play.
See, this is the thing that boils my piss about Maguire.I don't think that's the case. I think he still hopes to get in to the team.
If you look at things from his perspective, he was one of the best in the league at Leicester and then he was good for us for 2 seasons, and captain on top. Things went south and he is now 4th or 5th choice, but I can see how that is difficult to accept for Harry.
It is on ETH imo to talk to him that he gets the play time that Jones did if he stays. There is no get back in to the team, no chance. Go some other place of lose the England spot.
It’s letting him know that he’s not needed and surplus to requirements, loads of clubs do it it’s not that big of a deal. If he wants to play then he can push for a move. Simple.
Having seen how hostile the crowd has turned against him in the past, I think it might be a bad idea for him to stay. He'll unfortunately get lots of abuse for it and he might suffer both mentally and career wise.
Maybe his plan is to ask for a loan on a subsidised salary in order to get first team football without the financial sacrifice. I guess we'll see.
I don’t agree with the entitled mentality that Maguire should move on just because the club and fans want him to. Maguire has a contract, it’s his prerogative to remain if he wishes. The club can actually get rid of him at any point if they pay him the remainder of his contract up then they can terminate it.
I actually think its more to do with the good direction the club has taken this season. He knows hes never gonna play at a club thats gonna be challenging for the league then Utd next season which means he picks up a medal and the premier league trophy since hes captain (if were successful). Hes using the John Terry logic that as long as hes in his kit lifting the trophy no one remember how it all happened in the years to come.I swear if this slabhead feck costs us Kim Min-jae because he's too proud to admit he's behind Martinez, Varane, Lindelof AND Shaw I'll flip.
Yes, no one is going to pay him anywhere near what we pay him so he’ll be happy to stick around and earn £10m a year for the next three years and “fight for his place” unless we give him a huge pay offHis wages are the biggest sticking point
Are you seriously suggesting that ~Ten Hag will have him as captain next year ? If he digs in and forces a stay I would struggle to let him clean the carpark after training.I actually think its more to do with the good direction the club has taken this season. Of course the money is definitly a factor and knowing that he cant get that anywhere else is having an influence. But I could be totally wrong as well as who knows what going on in that big head of his. Like others have said I hope EtH takes the captaincy away from him. We cant be carrying on the soft soft approach after the manager made it as clear as day that he will only play Maguire when there are no CB options left.
Exactly. Make it clear to him that "fight for your place" is no longer an option. Leave or don't play.Or they can strip the captaincy, refuse to register him in the squad for any tournament and force him to train away from the first team.
Plenty of things that people CAN do, but play stupid games win stupid prizes as they say.
I dont think EtH would let him keep the captaincy. But EtH has shown that he is willing to respect the club's way of dealing with players that are no longer wanted and the problem with that is the club have been soft on players who are refusing to leave in the past. Maguire sees that and thinks Utd wont humiliate him by taking away the captaincy and weve already seen that this season with both him and Bruno lifting the cup when really it should have just been Bruno. Are you seriously suggesting that ~Ten Hag will have him as captain next year ? Mainly by not giving out huge, long contracts to players who aren’t worth them in the first place. How do we get round that

But now that we’re in the position I guess we either (a) give him a big pay off so that this plus his signing on fee and wages at the new club come to a similar amount or (b) send him out on loan and subsidise his wages.
The first one I reckonWe need money so which option
I think ETH just has to tell him in straight face, thats he is not going to play any slow CB next season.
Apparently not if he is dealing someone as thick as Maguire, who has been reportedly want to stay and fight for starting line up next season.Actions speak louder than words, EtH preferred Shaw & Lindelof ahead of him, that is as clear as it gets.
Other clubs aren't going to pay a world record £80m for him though, unfortunately.I wonder if clowns will now consider it ‘embarrassing’ for other clubs to pursue Maguire this summer on the basis that he’s happy at United.
