The fans supported the manager, yes. But is was very much the managers shitstorm. The fans weren't the ones spouting constant shite in press conferences and setting the team up to fail, at which point the fans pretty quickly began to turn.
In reality though it wasn't unreasonable to expect the football club to bring in a centre half, which we badly needed, after we had finished 2nd in the league and only added Fred and Dalot (who at that stage had only played about 10 first time games iirc).
And frankly, had we signed Maguire that summer for the reported £50m instead of the world record £80m the following summer, it would likely be looked back on rather differently.
