Mctominay will get plenty of games definitely and I'm not that bothered about that. He has his uses when used properly.
Maguire won't get many though, we don't even have the EL this season where we can play him and it doesn't really matter. He made 6 starts in the League after he was dropped following the Brentford 4-0 defeat on the 2nd matchday. I think he'll struggle to make even that many this season unless there's a big injury crisis. He's 5th choice.
Woodward did so much damage to this club. It's going to take a long time to recover properly.
Well the 50M was for Harry and Scott. Had we taken it we still would have needed to payoff Maguire at least so reduce that to 43M at best and then we need to sign another CB and CM with the remaining funds. I am fairly sure ETH will have looked at what is out there and the prices being quoted and realized he was better off sticking with what he had.
I do not think much has changed since then to be fair. There are already talks to give Lisandro a new contract despite that he has another 4 years (plus an option for an extra year) on his current contract. And we just got screwed by both Chelsea and Atalanta in overpaying for Mount and Hojlund. While not being able to sell Maguire and McTominay despite having decent bids for them. And proclaimed that we did all those changes to the scouting system, only for the players we sign to be handpicked by the manager.
Not to repeat myself but have noticed, while discussing in that thread, that Lucas Hernandez and de Ligt both were moved for 80m€ the same year, in July... Wonder if Woodward felt obligated to buy a CB for that price too.
I wouldnt boo him but I do hope he misses out on the Euros squad now.
We (the club) painted ourselves into this particular corner and I’ve no beef with Harry for staying put if it’s not worth his while.

But we know he's not staying for that. He knows that too.
Same way Lingard didn't get credit for hanging for a season after his West Ham spell. Both knew they were finished here, both had open doors to first team football and £100,000+ a week contracts at West Ham but both chose to sit out the bigger contract at United.
Fair enough, they're entitled to the money but most United fans won't feel any sympathy for them or admire them for "fighting."
I would appreciate if we take the financial hit this time ( we have a lot of financial blunders which dwarfs this one anyway) and keep him out of the squad as much as possible. Atleast next time player will know that they arent going to get pay off for poor performance

Quite an unbelievable quote considering it was clear to everyone since October last year he wasn't part of the plan.
Most cases in this scenario, club will take the 30m transfer fee, and save 20m-7m = 13m in wages, and the player can play elsewhere with a tactic that suits his strength, and the player can play regularly and keeps his NT spot, a win win situation. However in this case Utd chose the other path.
Question is when this is going to end? Every outgoing player will start demanding the same.
If he is sold, the write off is the book value (£26m) less the sale proceeds (say £23m after his payoff). So the net write off is £3m.
If he is kept there is a £13m amortisation cost.
So the charge to our accounts this year would be £10m more if he is kept than if he is sold (before even taking his wages in to account which would be another £11m+).

I think they offered £60M for both. Should have used some of that to pay off Maguire, and then immediately jettison both. It would have left us with £50M and then some. Shift Donny and Williams and it would be enough to buy Todibo and Amrabat, or someone else. Get some actually useful players in their place.
I haven't read that about Licha. That's ridiculous. There is no need to give him a new contract. ETH seemed desperate for both players. I don't get Mount at all. I don't know enough about Hojlund to say much. Hopefully he will come good. Maguire isn't really on the club. He doesn't want to leave. I would have sold McTominay for the £30m that was offered. Chances of us ever getting a better offer are slim. We will regret turning it down.
Scouting is a huge concern. We're just buying players that ETH has managed or seen play in the Dutch league. I still believe getting rid of Woodward was a positive. We have done transfer business earlier than we usually do in a long time. Even if the fees were a bit inflated.

Well, it's our mess and we didn't quite manage to clean it up. Not sure fault can be attached to the player for not conveniently moving aside to his own financial detriment. As long as he gets on with his job to the best of his ability we just have to accept we made a huge mistake with Maguire. Booing him etc is only going to be self defeating.

1. Bad scouting
or
2. Change of manager, and then change of tactics.
or
3. Player lost form, like Sanchez. (it is just pure bad luck sometimes)
Like many have said before Maguire is still a good player for England which doesn't play a high line, and that's why west ham is interested in his service.
