Maguire | he stays!

He won't have enough appearances to qualify for any trophy we do win. Don't they need 10 full matches in the PL? He managed 6 last time. He's also not leading the defense if we progress to the semis of any cup competition.
I don’t think that’s a thing anymore is it? Think you just need to be registered in the squad.

Seems like we were only going to sell if we could replace him for a similar fee.

He's 4th choice now so wages aside, who cares? We'll barely have to see him play and despite not really being a good fit for our desired future playing style he's still a very good 4th choice center back.
5th choice, we care, he's a terrible fit, and he's barely adequate as 5th choice.

Dear Saudi's,

Would like to tell you not to believe everything you read here. Caftards are not very know as knowledgeable when it comes to football. Quite the opposite, not to mention they are very young, teenagers to be exact, and they are jealous of our enormously successful football players like Maguire, Henderson, Bailly, Martial, McTominay, etc. Let me also inform you those players are very popular around the world and will lift popularity of your league in no time. We would be very sad if you would buy them for £300m-£350m, but will also understand your desire to get best of the best and all of the Caf will become fans of the future World greatest league: SA League.

But he doesn't want the transfer, that's the whole point. The club wants to get rid of him so they have to pay him. He is entitled to demand his salary as it says in the contract.
If they sell him now at least there is a fee invoved. His salary has to be paid either way, because he's happy to stay.

The club thinks that 30m won't get them a replacement, while I think a 4th choice CB can be founf for that money. Maybe even one with a smaller ego and some potential to replace Varane next year.

City paid 15m for Akanji just last year.

If he does not want the transfer he stays as 5th choice as the manager has said.
“The club want to sell him” yes but they are also happy to keep him in the squad.

He does not want the transfer. Again not true, he does but on the condition the club pays him severance. He’d like to be first choice and not lose his England place.

Thats the stance. If he wants to actually leave he’ll get no severance. Its his choice and this is far from being over

Maguire is within his rights to refuse a transfer. That is the only way he is entitled to future payments.
...and that's exactly what he does, how is that so hard to understand?!?
He says he has no intention to leave, if you want me gone you have to pay up.

Of course he would like to play elsewhere, but that's called negotiation tactics.
If both parties stand by their position, he'll stay here.

Or may be the problem also lies on DOF. There must be a reason for the failure of the transfer for the unwanted players. From Henderson, Baily, Maguire to Mctominay. They all failed just because players are greedy?

No, they failed because they're not very good at football..

It's not as hard to sell someone of laportes quality, even with his injury problems.

That was changed in 2011 - 5 is the number now

Name a transfer where a player gets severance. It only happens on mutual termination of contract. As with Sanchez and Ronaldo.

And no the players can choose to stay at United. If a player choses to join another club via transfer they are not entitled to serverance.

Similarly if your job makes you redundant you get severance. If you get a new job, even on a lower salary you get no severance.

There is a reason the clubs public stance is that they value Maguire as an important member of the squad. If he leaves its his choice and the club owes him nothing,
Have you not worked out that he does not want to leave?

The 10 appearances requirement has been scrapped and he appeared in 16 games for us last season anyway. It was never about ‘full’ games anyway.

He is a couple injuries away from being a starter. Varane is quite injury prone so it’s really about either Martinez or Lindelof being injured at the same time.

Not exactly. He wants to receive double wages from both clubs essentially.
If he doesn’t want to leave then we should freeze him until he changes his mind.

I wouldn’t pay his full wages to leave as this creates dangerous precedent. If he wants the pay check - ok, but it means no match practice.

Get the contact details of that guy who made that Michael Owen brochure.

If it was "simples" why isn't everyone doing that?
Because clubs cave into agents and players demands...if a few of the bigger ones stopped doing it then others may follow suit.
While it continues clubs can be stuck with a rapidly diminished asset for 4-5 yrs so it is in their interest to change it.

And Lindelof has a long-term back problem

Bunch of killjoys, all of you.

FFP plays a part but it's swings and roundabouts, it's harder to get rid of the ones you want to get rid of with longer contacts but it also makes it harder to keep the ones you do want to if they're on shorter contracts

They could offer another 3yr contract to a player in their 2nd year if th player is performing because offering these 5-6 yr contracts from the outset is madness IMO

In the long run that costs the club more money because the new contract will be worth more, if it wasn't the player wouldn't sign it and leave for nothing

I'm not talking about what he said in public, if it was SAF he would have called him into his office and told him either you feck of or train with the under 19 team.
And like I said we don’t know what hes said to him

I'm seeing a lot of these Fergie would have done this and that posts but I have to disagree.

Fergie had a lot (if not all) the clout in transfers back in the day and used to sell a lot of unwanted players for well below their market value in order to get them out of the club. He would have probably convinced the board to agree to the pay off.

I think one of the reasons that we're poor sellers is a hangover from the Fergie era.

It was a different world back then, FFP wasn't around and that's a big influence now on what you can and can't do regarding transfers

But at least we would know if the player is worth it or not.

I had completely forgotten that blue shirt with yellow shorts kit. Half these moments feel like a lifetime ago. Some of the incidents I don't blame him for, like the two deflected goals, but beyond those it's a telling compilation.

The right place at the right time mate?

Calamity after calamity... Worst defender ever to play for us.

Everytime i see his face on the bench or playing, i feel like im going to throw up.

Sick of the guy.

I can’t see a u-turn here. The quotes from the Maguire camp certainly makes it sound like he’s set here for the season.

I defended him before this, especially with the whole booing malarkey. All he’s done is given the boo-army more ammunition. The tool doesn’t help himself.
