This is not an overreaction to him being at fault for a bunch of goals yesterday. United fans have always known Maguire has plenty of weaknesses in his game and he was arguably rushed backed from injury because of his desperate boss. This is a judgement on his performance as a captain.

When has he ever pushed us on? When has he lifted the team in a moment of difficulty? When has he settled us down when we are under the kosh? Being English and rarely injured is not enough for a United captain. Maguire is like Ole, just happy to be here and can't believe his luck. When he was first appointed a lot of people claimed he was the only option but surely not now . Ronaldo, Bruno, Rashford and De Gea would all make better captains.

I think Bruno being captain makes the most sense.

People say the captain title doesn't really matter, in which case they should be more than OK if it's stripped from Maguire.

I do think Maguire will shrivel if he's stripped of the title. Doesn't seem to have the gumption. The dude was all peacock macho when he became captain. I don't know if he really understands how far he is from being at the top pantheon of PL defenders.

The English media circus and his PR team are keeping him in a small cocoon but I think he's realized it more and has essentially shut up after the initial peacocking.

I notice him like pointing fingers in the air without any authorities, it’s like nobody would listen to him, and he should just mind his own business as he hasn’t been doing his job right.

Afterwards Solskjaer was forced to defend his selection of Maguire, who was only able to return to training on Friday morning after three weeks out with a calf injury.
"It was my decision to play Harry," he said. "He's worked really hard on the rehab and he looked ready. He didn't feel any after-effects after training.
"He's a big, massive player for us, the captain, the leader. We want to bring him back as soon as we can because he's been so influential in our play.
"We didn't defend well enough and all of the goals were disappointing in how we conceded them."

Any one who really thinks Harry Magdire is an important, positive influential force in MUFC play.. sigh. I think it's just yet another sign that Ole is just not cut out at this level.

Exactly it starts with your own performance. He genuinely looks nervous and wary sometimes when things aren't going well. Imagine how it translates to his teammates when you know your captain/leader is a B*#&#

Peacock Macho is a great way to describe him.

Been awful this season so far yet Ole persists with him, same with Fred. Take the 2 out of the firing line for a while and see how it goes. If Maguire wasnt playing yesterday we had a good chance of winning that game, at fault for 3 of the goals directly. First one was not dealt with and had his pocket picked, 2nd one playing everyone onside, 3rd goal very poor positioning, why not close the attacker down? 4th goal, Ill blame him as well for not being closer to Vardy, although it was AWB fault for losing the ball. Every week is the same stupid mistakes costing us points, it needs to be erradicated. Ronaldo done nothing yesterday as well, although he didnt have any service.

As a Captain after it went 2-2 you send out a warning to everyone to focus and tighten up for a few minutes to regain composure, he offered none of that to his team and within 15 seconds we concede and fall apart. Its not all down to him, but the buck stops with the captain when things go wrong the way they did on the pitch.

He's never going to be a top CB but Ole seemed to feed him to the Wolves given he's only just returned from injury.

Playing for Manchester United is really hard
You can be phenomenal in an other squad and terrible at United

I can almost understand Ole taking the risk with him, given how well Maguire has been playing for us since his last dodgy spell. That said, he was clearly struggling today, as he often does when partnered with Lindelhof, and yet he was left struggle on the pitch for the full 90 minutes. I think that's far more damning than taking the risk starting him.

Keep in mind this is a player who wasn't captain at any of his previous clubs but 6 months into his United career is made captain. Won nothing significant as a player in his career.

I'd say put Varane as captain. He's a top CB with a huge reputation and who knows what winning trophies is all about. The guy had worked alongside the likes of Ramos and Lloris so he knows what being a captain is all about. Maguire is prone for that one big mistake per game and quite frankly he's specialized in failure. God knows how many semi finals and finals has this guy lost.

He's got the worst mentality I've seen from any Utd captain, a few boos by the Leicester fans had him rattled.

Take it away from Maguire who has been crap to give it to Fernandes who has been crap too. And when De Gea is suggested too, then it is obviously just an overreaction because Maguire didn't have a good game and De Gea did.

If Maguire is to be replaced as captain, the one ne who appointed him captain will need to go. Can’t have one without the other.

Yeah he is really not captain material. That band needs to sit on someone with authority, that the rest of the players automatically look to when in doubt.
Someone who wants us to win and not settle for anything less.
And someone who is a proven winner.
Maybe Ronaldo.

Agreed. If it happens it will be after Ole is sacked.

Fernandes has issues with form and his playacting but his mentality is more captain like for me than Maguire. He commands more respect on this pitch from his teammates and the opposition.

I would keep him as captain personally, he’s had a dreadful start to the season but when the change in management is made, we’ll see him regain his form.

I wouldn't do it right now but I'd drop him because he's been beyond shit this season. Yesterday was one of the worst professional performances I've ever witnessed.

He shouldn't be captian cause he doesn't deserve to start every game. Simple as that.

Make Bruno captain. Or even Ronaldo. They'll take it more to heart than Maguire.

You want to take the captaincy off Maguire a good organiser with great communication skills at the back. (This was highlighted even more last season during lockdown when all you could was hear was his voice barking instructions during games.) and give it to a mute like David De Gea? :D

Maguire has been a good signing and a good leader at the back. a poor few games at the start of the season isnt going to change that.

This is the least of our bloody problems. Honestly, why pile onto the misery? Let's sort out the absolute shite coaching issue first.

I've said it before, If he wasnt english he'd be much higher rated.

One of the most under-appreciated players we have. He's been a good signing

De Gea would all make better captains.
De Gea wouldn't, he has the same issues as Maguire — he's not very vocal and he was never the best organiser, even at his brilliant best.

Can't argue with you on Bruno, Ronaldo or Rashford.

There's zero chance OGS strips him of the captaincy unless he has a long period out and whoever takes over the armand in his absence does really well.

Has anyone in recent times been stripped of the captaincy (but still played) due to performance?

there were some on here advocating Pogba to be given captaincy here as well :D

English players getting underrated because of their nationality is one of the weirdest myths that somehow exist — and blossom — today. The only case where it holds any ground is when an English player plays in a non-Enlgish way (Hoddle, deep-lying version of Scholes, Carrick), but it's clearly not the case with Maguire.

Bruno and Maguire are the only two leaders for me in this squad.

Both got the biggest gobs. The rest are quiet.

We had our worst defensive record in something like 50 years last season. It's not just a poor few games.

Forget De Gea, I agree he's not the ideal choice.

Think the talk is premature.
However, Ole is sucking his dick off every day. He is not fully fit and rested.

Nah we have many problems this isn’t one of them. Player rushed back from injury performs badly, I for one am shocked…

The most passive captain I've seen. Playing shit and dropping points is not a problem for our Harry. Just keep calm and carry on. Pick up your wage and don't say a word.

No chance OGS strips him of it but a new manager should.

Maguire is a perfect example tbh.

He's been a good signing but the way people talk about him you'd think he was anything but, to put it mildly.
