Maguire needs to be replaced

It’s beyond funny now.

Must be the worst captain we’ve had. He’s turd, it’s been said for ages he needs someone to be paired with. He’s the bloody problem.

He needs to be dropped, get him out of the firing line for a while ala Shaw, because in his current form he's close to being a liability.

Guy looks afraid of his own shadow.

He's gonna cost us, either through mistakes (letting that high ball bounce, FFS, defending 101) or giving away penalties (shirt grab and then bear hugging that Burnley player in the box close to the end, they're gonna start being given).

We can only hope Victor isnt out for too long.

As for him being Captain, jesus, dont get me started.

I've been a defender of Maguire. However when does it get to the point were our Captain needs to come out the team?

It's been a long time since I've seen a player have such a disastrous season. The guys looks absolutely broken, totally devoid of confidence and he could do with being taken out of the firing line.
That time came & went ages ago.

This isn’t a this season issue, yes this season is a particular disaster but his lows at points since joining have been unparalleled.

That goal was all on Bailly not being able to trap a football. There was no danger until he gave it away. Maguire hasn't played well this season, but it's notable that in the last few fixtures he's been far more solid than either defensive partner. Yet he's the one receiving the majority of the blame.

Absolutely bang on. If you switched Maguire and Bailly's roles in the goal tonight and Maguire and Varane's roles for the Newcastle goals it would still be Maguire getting all the blame. He's become a massive scapegoat. Thought he was solid tonight.

Remember when people thought it was just Ole who was obsessed with him? For some reason Rangnick's now got him down as a key player and Southgate swears by him for England too as will the manager who comes in in the summer. Join the dots together lads, he's just very good and that's why they all rate him.

When I used to criticise him I did as he was the most expensive defender and our captain but even then I still considered him a good/great defender but now it’s becoming so bad that even if he was 20m it was still a bad signing.
Genuinely now is the worst of our 4 main CB’s

Good player for England and rubbish for us.
I think maybe he should be stripped of the captaincy to relive the pressure he obviously feels playing for us.
Hoping Newcastle line up an £80m+ bid for him:D

I wonder how the players feel, do they also feel he is inept as a captain? If so, how does that affect the team in terms of morale as well as accountability.

The players must feel demoralized from minute one having to be led by such an uninspiring captain, everyone at the Club must be aware that he needs replacing, summer can't come too soon!

I guess the positive is that when we do eventually replace him we know that it will be for someone better as it cannot get any worse:wenger:

He is good when they face teams like Andorra, Barbados or some random country during qualifiers. Why Ole appointed him as a captain when he achieved exactly zilch as a player is mind boggling. He wasnt even captain or vice at Leicester

He needs some time on the sidelines. Definitely needs to the armband taken - not a punishment but, he doesn't inspire as a captain for United should and really should just focused on doing his primary job and that's it.

The most shocking things are his lack of composure and inability to read the game. It's almost as if he's completely unaware of his limitations.

I hate to be that guy but his contract runs until June 2025...

Agree about everything about Bailly. But for Vic ...come on, you can dislike him as a player but why to make shit up?

1)Lindelof is not slow. Not fast but not slow either.
2) He is very good in one on one situations with attackers. He always position himself good.
3) He is good on the ball

Yes, he is weak in body to body duels and in air.

I'm not making anything up mate, it's just what I see in Lindelof.

Look, we can argue about who is best suited to partner Varane until we're blue in the face, but if we are being brutally honest, none of Bailly, Maguire, Lindelof or Tuanzebe is good enough to start for a PL title winning side. Like Smalling, Jones, Rojo or Blind before them, all good players to varying degrees but ultimately not good enough.

Why not go for the likes of Skriniar, Koulibaly or Marquinhos? One of the few positives we have going for the club right now is that we have the resources to bring any of those players in. Marquinhos won't be easy, but Pogba would be a strong bargaining chip for any potential deal with PSG.

I feel the likes of him and Rashford are buckling under the pressure. Neither appear to have what it takes to be a leading figure of such a mammoth club. No shame in it and both should be allowed/encouraged to go back to basics and focus on their respective basic duties. The captaincy should be given to someone else and this guy should just be one of our CB options. When he plays, he should just be focused on trying to stay in the first 11. That’s it. If he doesn’t play well...we have options.

Right now he is a complete liability.

Varane-Lindelof/Bailly sholud be the CB pair. Maguires strictly on the bench as a fourth option. Also, promptly sold. Giving him the armband was one of the stupidest decisions this club has made in the past few years.

At the time he gave Maguire the captaincy, who else would you have given it to? The squad lacked leaders massively. I initially thought he would be good at it , and I think at first he was. He seems to have regressed in his leadership and lacks confidence.

Maguire was fairly poor last night. The worse his performances get, the more last ditch errors he makes in desperation, and he will be giving away penalties and free kicks more and more. Pulling ASM over with two hands, shirt pulling last night, these are the kinds of antics we see from him every match. I don't mind that kind of shithousery so much if it is done with a certain cunning but he is doing it to recover from his own poor positioning.

I still think he is a good defender and like the guy, I just think he isn't what we need as captain and I'm not convinced he is not replaceable as a CB. Not our most pressing concern but does need to be considered.

What is embarrassing about his thread?

is acknowledging the fact that Harry does not suit a team that wants to play a high line embarrassing?

Is acknowledging the fact that Maguire has been shockingly poor so far in this season embarrassing?

Or is acknowledging the fact that he is not a captain material embarrassing?

Maguire was really solid when we played deeper and played from the counter, however, when we tried to transition to a team playing a higher line then Maguire’s complete lack of speed and agility has been exposed. You can see opposition targeting him when they attack as it is obvious that he can crack under pressure.

Additionally, he is in terrible form now and unable to show his limited strengths at this stage (like aerial prowess).

I don’t think that Pep or Klopp would be able to fit him in their teams due to his obvious deficiencies.

He is a good CB but never a first team CB for a team that wants to win titles on regular basis.

He’s horribly out of form. He’s also much better than his current output.

The idea that he’s some sort of terrible defender is complete and utter bollocks, but he absolutely does need some time out of the firing line when Lindelof is fit again.

The issue there is that Maguire is fit and reliable and will inevitably get back into the team in light of injury or illness. Dropping him is easier said than done.

Its a joke how the blame for Maguires constant mistakes (not just this season but since joining United) is shifted to the other CBs. Varane, Lindelof and Bailly are all good footballers and any given combination for a run of games would be better. Maguire is not good! He is at best (not this season) strong and goos in the air.
Maguires inability to keep position and pass the ball with some pace destroys uniteds defence and build up of attacks.

he is at best a back up CB in a world class club.

I hate to say it but I can't stand him. Does anyone feel like this? I'm sure he is a decent bloke but I just don't like him at all. A shambles that he is the captain and playing week in and week out.

Think it goes both ways, Maguire has been heavily criticised recently but it's not too long ago he was supposedly considered one of the best in the league by many on here.

And the club was in negotiations with him to improve it.

I cant stand him as well. Dont get me wrong, he is still one of the better options among all the CBs we have but that incident in Greece and that England celebration made it really hard for me to like him as a person. And all these captaincy and leadership nonsense dont really amount to anything real as well, if anyhing dislikable people are less likely to be a leader, maybe in title but not in implementation. He is like a lite Lukaku, a little bit petty and thinks he is better than what he shows on the pitch

Same here. Hate that we paid 80m for him. Hate that because of his price tag he is virtually undroppable. Hate that we won’t be able to fix his natural deficiencies that will make it impossible to play effective attacking football.

He is a great asset for a team that wants to sit deep and play from the counter. That’s why he looked very good in Leicester shirt.

What is embarrassing? Criticizing the world most expensive defender and our captain for the absolute shower of shit he is doing every game? oh please.

Maguire would be much more suited to league 1, how on earth he's Man Utd captain is proper mental he offers nothing at all other than moaning ,shirt pulling ,off the pace , shocking never gets any better.

Probably the Qanon levels of hysteria and nonsense posted on here.

Yeah, things do tend to get hysterical when discussing United players on here

Maguire is a good CB on his day, but he hasn't played anywhere near his best for a good 12 months now. Some time out of the team may help, but his replacements aren't up to much either. Our back line is pretty grim right now.

Similar to OgS. It hurts to be proven wrong when you’ve hitched your wagon to a cart horse.

Heavy criticism is warranted, he’s been that bad for that long.

Rashford is rarely dropped and he’s rubbish so what chance is there we will drop our own captain?

He would have been dropped to regain a bit of form if we had someone else. Lindelof, Varane, Bailly... can't be depended on to play 10 games in a row.
