Man United - Aston Villa [FA Cup]

VIDIC LOSS IS DOUBLE BLOW FOR FERGUSON

By Alan Nixon

NEMANJA VIDIC has picked up a hamstring injury to give Manchester United a surprise blow in their bid for a league and cup double.

Serbian centre-back Vidic pulled out of training with the problem yesterday and seems certain to miss tomorrow's FA Cup tie with Aston Villa.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is also worried that Vidic will be out of the return clash with Villa in the Premiership.

Vidic has been a hit so far this season after settling well into the United defence, but the strain of a heavy festive fixture list seems to have taken its toll on him.

Ferguson is well covered for defenders at Old Trafford but will not want to lose Vidic for any length of time as that could seriously disrupt his plans.

I think that team is strong enough to beat Villa.

I'm not underestimating Villa either.

I agree with you. Villa are not in good form, even tough they draw vs Chelsea. But Villa are missing Mellberg on sunday who is their best defender.

Heinze - Silvestre - Ferdinand - Brown

Could be a possible defence. I think Fergie wants to take every chance to rest Gary Neville because of his injury problems and his age.
Rio can play every game, I'm not sure about if Silvestre will play but I think he will. Brown at RB, Fergie wants him ready if Gary is injured.
Heinze will probably play LB.

But if O'Shea don't play in midfield on sunday I would rather play O'Shea at CB then Silv.

Fletcher---Carrick---O'Shea---Park
-------Larsson--Solskjaer---------

Subs: VDS, Evra, Ronaldo, Richardson, Smith.

He probably will play Silvestre in defence instead of Oshea... I just hope he doesn't.

Has Oshea even started a match in defence this season?

I don't think Fergie will rest too many players, Villa will be a tough nut to crack especially considering their result against Chelsea.

I think Villa will be close to full strength seeing a cup run is about all they could acheive this season now their experiencing their mid-season slump.

I don't know if it's allowed or not here, but can anyone PM me where I can view this game on the net. I don't think they'll be showing it here in Australia. Only Liverpool VS Arsenal. If It's not allowed then, don't worry about it. ^^

That sounds good to me but I would start Park - give him some more games under his belt and to hopefully come back to fitness and have Rooney on the bench instead.

I've scored a corporate freebie from those good folks at Hawkins Roofing for this one. 3 course meal, free bar tab, private box. Sweet!

I'm going with half a dozen mild mannered Villa supporters. Nice lads though. Sensible haircuts, slacks and pastel shirts. You know the sort.

The only drawback is the beer they serve at Villa park. It's that strange under chilled variety that's a favourite of bowling alleys and the like. Still, it's free!

I'm praying that Silvestre doesn't start as the CB; if Nev is fit then Brown should partner Rio.
I'd like to see Rossi, Ole and Henke start, although that probably won't happen:

Pretty sure the defence will be like this:

Brown - Rio - Silvester - Heinze

I want scholes and gaz to play one half so he'll be fit for the other villa game

Sources from Old Trafford are saying that this is our team today

Rossi - Larsson
Park - Scholes - Carrick - Solskjaer
Evra - Silvestre - Ferdinand - Brown
Kuszczak

Van der Sar - Heinze - O'Shea - Ronaldo - Rooney

I don't know yet if it's true... But nice with Rossi if that's the case

Great team, but there is a week's gap between our last game and our next game, so i'd have Brown in the centre and Neville on the right.

does Gary Neville needs more rest? He's been rested a lot lately.
