Wonder if Ruud'll be playing or is he already on the way to Barca? The more he's left out, the more :nervous: I'm getting.
Do you really think Barca would pay what we want for him? Don't invent stories on Ruud ;)

we will lose with this formation
rooney can't play as a center forward and it is against one of the best defences in the league and europe

Rooney can play there. We played like that earlier this season when he was our only fit striker, and (barring the first Milan game) it worked quite well. We lacked a true strike-man which did hurt us sometimes, but the movement between Rooney, Scholes, Giggs and Ronaldo ripped defences apart at times.

However, if Ruud is fully fit then I would definitely use him upfront with Rooney on the left and Giggs on the bench. If Ruud isn't ready then I'd use Saha if he's fit, and if neither are ready I'd use the team that randy posted (Rooney up front with Giggs and Ronaldo on the wings).

They'll get him for a bargain if he does leave; there'll be more W Brom instances for us next season, cue calls for Torres or Adriano (if he's not joined Chelsea) to be signed :tard:

That's what the tea leaves says.

Fookin orrible fixture. There's nothing to play for but pride. If we win they'll say it was a nothing match, if we lose they'll say that we've slipped even further behind them.

And to think with a bit less tinkering this could've been setup as the decider. Sigh. rolleyes etc etc

But if SAF'd tinkered less, we could've key midfielders knackered or even injured (see Real last season), that'd have ended our title hopes as well. Catch-22 really. Ultimately, SAF'll have to address our midfield succession problem instead of persevering with quantity over quality in midfield.

Let hope we take our chances this time round, we won't be getting the chances we did at the weekend, but still we have more than enough quality to win this one.

Don't do score predictions its bad luck!

Didn't seem to have a negative effect back in the 1999 run-in to the Treble. I'd rather be within a shout of the league title with a match or two to play than playing for 2nd/3rd place the last 6 matches.

Remember, our key protagonists in midfield were 6 years younger and presumably fitter then, there was less need to rest them in order to maintain their physical conditions.

But I think SAF shouldn't be making wholesale changes to midfield esp when our backups aren't good enough.

Essentially, it was our bad start which killed off this season, we were playing catch-up all the way. Chelsea're mentally tougher than Arse which made things harder. I think had Gerrard not scored that OG, we might have a chance as losing 3 matches in a week'd have knocked their confidence.

That's the one.

Timmy, Smithy, Johnno, Phizza and Daz on the bench.

Selection looks right. Could have positioned the midfield a little more conventionally though

Thats the formation I would play too, I just put the same team out in a 4-5-1.

Can't be bothered with whole we can't play a 4-4-2 debate, with the players we have :D.

United v Chelsea: Key battles

AT the start of the season, tonight's fixture would have been marked out as a potential title decider.

Unfortunately for United fans, the Premiership has already been wrapped up by their London opponents, who have coasted to victory with the Reds almost certain to finish third.

The outcome is down largely to two factors: Chelsea's mean defence and United's misfiring attack. Chelsea have conceded only 13 goals all season, while the Reds £68million strikeforce has managed just 55 league goals - just three more than Middlesbrough and 24 less than leading scorers Arsenal.

Here, we look at the key battles involving United's attack and Chelsea's defence.

WAYNE ROONEY v JOHN TERRY

Two of English football's brightest talents. Terry has the presence, experience and intelligence to keep his England colleague quiet for 89 minutes. But, as Rooney has proved time and time again, he has the talent to produce against the odds and a moment of brilliance is all it takes to turn a game. Both fiery characters, the two are likely to engage in a running battle which will be an intriguing personal duel.

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY v RICARDO CARVALHO

Despite winning the title in his first season at Chelsea and being an almost ever-present in the side, Carvalho has not won the plaudits one might usually expect. The Portugal international might not possess the physical presence of his partner Terry but he gets the job done. Van Nistelrooy is similar in that he too lacks specific attributes - he is not particularly skilful nor is he lightning fast, but his goalscoring record is second to none. He has suffered a loss of form since a recent injury but is set to bounce back in style any time soon.

RYAN GIGGS v GEREMI

Cameroon international Geremi has finally been given a run in the side thanks to the absence of preferred right-backs Paolo Ferreira and Glen Johnson through injury and he has not let Mourinho down. His performances have not been eye-catching but they were efficient enough and the former Real Madrid man can proudly boast that he was in the side when Chelsea clinched the title. In Giggs, though, he will face his toughest test because the Welshman will bring more to the game than Geremi has faced in his recent mini-run against Bolton, Liverpool and Charlton.

Preview: United v Chelsea

SIR Alex Ferguson is expected to start with a strong side against champions Chelsea after his rest policy against West Brom backfired.

Indeed, Fergie is expected to play the bulk of his FA Cup final team this evening in the last Old Trafford match of the season.

Roy Keane will return against the Londoners after being rested against Albion, while Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney, who came off the bench on Saturday after getting a breather, are also set to start tonight.

Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will spearhead the attack, which means Alan Smith, Kleberson, Phil Neville, John O'Shea and Quinton Fortune could find themselves on the bench, and with their cup final places in doubt.

Gary Neville has completed his three-match suspension for being sent off at Everton and is almost certain to be included again to shake off the rust in the final two league matches before facing Arsene Wenger's side.

Meanwhile, Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho is again likely to ring the changes.

Mourinho is expected to continue with Carlo Cudicini in goal but may give some of his first team regulars a rest now that the title is won and the party over.

Frank Lampard is unlikely to want a rest, though, as he looks to continue his unbroken Premiership appearances. His tally will reach 145 if he plays against United.

Chelsea remain without Scott Parker (broken foot), Paulo Ferreira (broken foot) and Wayne Bridge (broken ankle).

Manchester United (from): Howard, Carroll, G Neville, P Neville, Ferdinand, Brown, Silvestre, O’Shea, Fletcher, Fortune, Ronaldo, Kleberson, Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Miller, Van Nistelrooy, Smith, Rooney, Saha, Bellion.

Chelsea (from): Cech, Cudicini, Makelele, Terry, Johnson, Gallas, Carvalho, Robben, Gudjohnsen, Drogba, Smertin, Tiago, Lampard, Cole, Forssell, Kezman, Jarosik, Geremi, Huth and Duff.
