Are you mad?

Feeble fool ;) What about the curse.
Time to break this damn curse if you ask me. It is a pre-season friendly even though some here kept going on about it when we won the title so doesn't bother me but I don't like the idea of losing to man utd! This match won't be as intense as it has been in the past because both sides will have many of their main players missing.

Haven't got a clue what our team will be but think we might start something like this

Lehmann

Lauren?
Kolo
Cygan
Clichy

Pennant?
Gilberto
???
Pires

Bergkamp
Reyes

Where there is a question mark I am not sure, Cesc and RvP will probably play at some time during the match as well.

I just read that Saha won't be playing...he has an achilles problem. So, here's my latest prediction:

------------------------Carroll--------------------------

G. Nev------------Brown------Silvestre--------------JOS

-------------------GJx2-------P. Nev--------------------
Bellion------------------Scholes--------------------Giggs

-------------------Smith-------Forlan-------------------

If allowed 3 subs, Fletcher/Eagles/Fortune will get some minutes
If allowed 5, add Bardsley and Spector...

Starting XII?

It's live here :) Have to decide if i'm going to Söderstadion to watch my local team or stay at home to watch United

Didnt SAF say something about that both Scholes and Fletcher would start?

Have seen that too, he want's them to gain some match fitness.

In a newbie thread about Community shield it says maybe Pique will start
And Rossi might get some minutes.

Both Wenger and Fergie have been signalling that they have "young squads" and lots of "hiccups" so I reckon we'll see a very young set of teams tommorrow.

BBC SPORT suggests that Pique might get a game, so what is the likelyhood of Rossi also getting some action - ( I doubt it though as he is similar to Scholes, and both Scholes and Fletch definetly start.)
If Pique starts, it wouldn't surprise me to see Spector also. If Arsenal are without Henry, it looks as though Van Persie and Reyes will play and the
younger lads would not be too overoared by these players.

With only Saha and Smith upfront, I'd expect both to start as it's important they build up a bit of an understanding - If I'm correct they have not played together yet and so have only two competitive games before Chelsea.

I'd expect us to do well tomorrow as Arsenal have a very poor squad outside their first 16 - and with Henry, Vieira and Campbell out and Ljungberg rested, they should be there for the taking.

These are the expected teams I've seen in another forum:
Arsenal: Lehmann
Lauren Cygan Senderos Cole
Pennant Gilberto Edu Pires
Van Persie Reyes

Man Utd: Howard
G Neville Spector Pique O'Shea
Forlan Fletcher Scholes Giggs
Smith Saha

Man Utd (from): Howard, Carroll, G Neville, Brown, Silvestre, O'Shea, P Neville, Keane, Djemba-Djemba, Giggs, Smith, Saha, Bardsley, Tierney, Richardson, Forlan, Fletcher, Scholes, Spector, Bellion, Fortune.

where pique and rossi in the squad against arsenal

Saha and Brown doubts, maybe Pique and Rossi will replace there places in squad.

If Brown doesn't start, O'Shea will probably be moved to the right, with Gazza in the middle and Spector on the left.

Scholes and Fletcher are expected to play.

I doubt we'd risk Keane.

I could just about kiss you. :smirk:

I've been checking out SBS and Fox Sports looking for the game but thought it mustn't be on. Never thought of checking ESPN, and even if I did check, it's not in the book - had to check the guide on the tv to see the starting time (11:55pm).

To say meetings of Arsenal and Manchester United have become highly competitive is an understatement, and while today's Community Shield encounter in Cardiff is unlikely to end in overheated histrionics and FA charges - Ruud van Nistelrooy is not playing - it might not pass off uneventfully either.

'Pride is at stake now,' Sir Alex Ferguson said. 'This game is not a barometer for the rest of the season and no one regards it as that, but once the teams take the field it will be more than just a warm-up match.'

Ferguson wisely declined the opportunity to gloat over the expected departure of Patrick Vieira, which looks imminent despite Arsène Wenger's unshakeable belief that he will remain an Arsenal player, and offered only the measured comment that the transfer to Real Madrid has not gone through yet. He also added diplomatically that any team would miss such a strong player.

Ferguson is not getting soft in his old age, however, and when asked whether he was expecting anyone to repeat Arsenal's achievement of going through a league sea son unbeaten he bit like a perch.

'That was a one-off,' he said. 'Arsenal accumulated most points last season so they won the title fairly enough, but they didn't display championship form. They had too many draws. I think they came to a point around January where they realised they could go through the season undefeated, and that was a great driving force for them, but they had to stay undefeated to compensate for the number of draws. It was still an incredible achievement, though.'

Wenger refused to rise to the bait. 'Everybody has the freedom to make a judgment,' he retorted. 'In the last 20 minutes of every game last season, we were never behind. That means we had already done the job before. There were draws, but, most of the time, it was because of other teams coming back into the game, not because we were negative. Overall, we got huge recognition all over the country, not just for staying unbeaten but because of the way we played.'

United are preparing to start the season without half-a-dozen senior players, the Olympic Games having deprived them of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabriel Heinze, injury accounting for Van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and suspension ruling out Darren Fletcher and Rio Ferdinand.

Ferguson is unhappy with the Olympics situation. 'Apparently, it's supposed to be for amateurs, and money earned is put in trust, but we will be paying their wages while they are away so I don't know what that's all about.'

Arsenal have more serious problems, with Vieira and Sol Campbell ruled out through injuries, while Thierry Henry is unlikely to play a significant part. 'We look very young in training and are lightweight experience-wise,' said Wenger. 'The injuries make me anxious. The other players now have to take responsibility.'

Likely line-ups

Arsenal

Lehmann; Lauren, Touré, Cygan, Cole; Van Persie, Gilberto, Ljungberg, Pires; Henry, Reyes.

Man United

Howard; G Neville, O'Shea, Silvestre, P Neville; Fletcher, Keane, Scholes, Giggs; Saha, Smith.

Going by that list only:

------------Howard------------

Gary---Brown---Silvestre---Fortune

Fletcher---Keane---Scholes---Giggs

----------Saha--Smith----------

Id give Fortune a run since he is back and needs match fitness. Although ?Fletcher is average on the RW he is the best RW available for us. I thought Saha was injured ? if so then maybe Forlan since we havent really got anyone else...

One of the Gooners here thinks Wenger never pushes the "panic" button as i had put it... Well these some proof for the Goons.

Saha is injured, Brown is injured, I've heard Giggs and Keane will be rested and there's no point rushing Fortune back. we rushed Ruud back, and he got a Hernia.

In that case

------------Howard------------

Gary---Oshea---Silvestre---Phil

-------Djemba---Fletcher-------

Eagles----Scholes----Richardson

------------Smith-------------

Subs:
Carroll
Bardsley
Tierney
Forlan
Spector
Belion
Fortune

I personally feel Eagles should get a start. If not then Fletcher is our next best right winger but he is average there, where as Eagles is a right wing player, might not be physcially big but still this game isnt at all important.

MUTV last night were saying it will be most likely this

--------------Howard--------------
G Neville---Keano---Silvestre---JOS
Fletcher---P Nev---Djemba---Giggs
----------Forlan---Smith----------

Thats too defensive. Why would they suggest keane to play back when you can move oshea there and have phil play at left back, keeping keane in the midfield. With a line up like that dont expect too many shots at goal.

Knowing the ammount of shite Wenger talks Henry, Vieira, Ljungberg (queerhawk) and Campbell will probably start whether theyre injured or not

shit, sory ye they said scholes behind smith, all this talk of forlan on the forum has washed my mind :|
