Manchester City 17/18 discussion | "If you're here for the Champions clap your hands" (#6505)

Showed their lack of "winning with class" last night when Sane taunted Bristol City Fans after scoring, by putting his finger to his lips.

Bristol City in their biggest (or 2nd after us) game in years, fans enjoying their night..

We would have simply gone to our fans to celebrate. Not taunting fans of a lower league....

Of the top 20 Chelsea feature 10 times. Of the whole 100 only four players signed for United pre Anramovich. It clearly doesn’t prove what you’re claiming it proves.

It clearly illustrates that if individual football clubs (not something I actually agree with) are responsible for transfer inflation then United are just as culpable as anyone else. Possibly more so.

Is that really an issue these days? The classless cnuts have been peddling the fact that they are very 'classy' but everything about them is small time.
- announcing pep with pellegrini in charge
- twitter account answering its own questions
- can't fill the stadium for the biggest games of the season
- KdB contact renewal stunt
- Girona FC
- Sanchez saga

I could go on.. nothing about them has anything to do with 'class'. Mentality will never change, and that's why they are needing the help of media these days to show the world how they are doing things in an 'ethical' way... Ffs i don't even want to write about them!

EDIT: Some of their fans here are pretty much level-headed and sensible. Cheers to that.

Or maybe, just maybe he was booed throughout the 1st and 2nd Leg for no apparent reason. Also taunted with songs about his mother etc.

Stop being so precious.

That's really not an issue, if a player is getting shit and sworn at by thousands of fans, putting your fingers to your lips is not the worst retort he could have made.

City are conceding goals regularly and opposition teams have been semi successfully finding ways to play against them. It's possible the points gap will at least close before the end of the season and we'll rearm again before 18/19. Reasons for optimism.

Nobody's buying what you're selling. It was Chelsea & then yourselves who started the £100 Mill + Summer transfer window spends. I think you have only failed to break the £100 Mill on 1 occasion since 2008. Kudos to you :) I don't remember us ever breaking £100 Mill before LVG. I don't need to remind you that we also had a lot of success before LVG.

It doesn’t though. The majority of the top transfers were Chelsea’s and it was them spending big that prompted Utd to spend further. The figures are garbage anyway. How was Andy Cole at £7m more expensive in January 95 than Stan Collymore at £8.5m in summer of 95? That’s some crazy inflation.

Although, if we look at this attempt to adjust transfer fees based on inflation a certain club that you don't mention features very prominently, with a lot of those fees occurring well before Abramovich took over at Chelsea...

Stop that right now, if you continue to pose common sense people may not be able to argue that City have ruined football with filthy oil money, and then where will we be. It's almost like saying City backed out of a deal that Arsenal reneged on then Mourihno thought he could score some points even though weeks before he was bleating that United could never compete with City in the transfer market even though he blew Chelsea and City out of the water with his wages offer. It just won't wash.

Well you might if you had beaten them, guess we will never know

2018, player racially abused, player scores, horrifically puts finger to mouth, gets slaughtered by keyboard warriors

grow up ffs

As if a United player hasn't done that before.

"Bristol City in their biggest (or 2nd after us) game in years, fans enjoying their night.." *Cue the Violins...*

You guys really do cry over every little thing city do.

I really don't care how much City spend, but their higher moral ground nonsense which was peddled all over after Sanchez chose United was asinine. Equally nauseating is the idea that Pep is patron saint of youth and player development when he's spent more money than anybody in the transfer market since becoming manager of Barcelona. He's not different no matter how much he talks about his amazing football philosophy and wildly gesticulates from the bench.

The Bristol City fans were none to pleased with Sane's celebration either.

I have to yet to find anything that would suggest racism took place last night.

Not sure a few random quotes on twitter mean a great deal. On the actual BCFC forum they seem largely unconcerned about his gesture.

http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/192502-sane

For what its worth I thought it slightly unnecessary but who am I to say what was going through his head at that point?

I can't see the big deal about it personally. Shushing opposition fans, big whoops. I mean considering the fixture it was kind of unnecessary, but who is it harming...barely newsworthy :\

This is the same type of argument that was made recently about the De Bruyne announcement. Making it seem like people are going over the top to deflect your clubs actions.

Your club have done and will continue to do a number of silly things. Noticing that and passing comment on it is not blowing it out of proportion.

City fans are the most defensive bunch on here. A quick "Yeah Sane could have handled that better" kills any further debate.

Exact same argument just worded differently :smirk:

Is it the end of the world? Nope. Is it a massive problem that needs eradicating from the sport? Nope. Is it worth bringing up on an online forum to pass the time? Sure, why not?

For future reference silly little things City and there players do will more than likely be brought up and even mocked on this and any other Man Utd forum. If it bothers you I'm not sure what to say.

Did you feel the same when Gary Neville did the same vs Liverpool. Honestly these kind of pathetic attempts to win internet points make you guys look really petty.

The KDB and Sanchez announcements were at the same time because it was just after work hours when everyone is home and on the internet in the UK. Its a really common time for posting these things (I could be wrong but I believe its the 2nd most active time after lunch hour).
Sane shushed a bunch of fans who were booing him and on his back since the start for no real reason after he got a goal, would it have been different if he cupped his ear? Fair play to Sane for giving a bit back.

Any conspiracy to try and belittle city because you are getting caned on the pitch. These kind of posts smell of the same bitterness that BM has towards United for years (for the same reasons)

That it was a little petty? Yeah. I mean at the moment I was more just shocked that Ferdinand had actually scored and delighted on account of beating Liverpool and all that.

I disagree with why you announced it at the same time. I couldn't really care about Sane, I didn't watch the match but I guess gloating too much about knocking a smaller team out of the cup when by all accounts they gave you a game is poor form. Not the end of the world but ho hum.

To be fair I have no idea why you replied to my post. My issue was with a style of argument which is essentially just saying "well you're talking about it, SO THERE". Unless you took umbridge with me saying City have done a number of silly things, like all clubs do. To be fair it seems City are the only club who's fans aren't even open to the mildest of criticism or jest about them.

You beat us 2-1 the last time we played. Hardly a caning.

Unless you mean in general? I actually think we have come on a great deal this year and I'm very pleased with the football we've been playing. So urm.

Also is it a conspiracy that he shushed them? Tbf I haven't seen any pictures so it might be.

We'll have to disagree on this as I thought what Neville did was great, as was Adebayor's celebration against Arsenal.

Why would you disagree on the announcement, do you really think some genius at City thought "Hey you know what we'll do.... We'll intentionally go head to head with one of the biggest clubs in the world announcing signing one of the best players in the league by announcing KDB's extension. Because that will make no one care about United signing Sanchez and everyone care about us extending a player who had time on his current deal anyway?"
Where is the logic in that.

I replied to your post because you are trying to make out City fans are needlessly defending the club, except we only defend what we know is right. I'd say plenty of City fans have given the club tons of criticism where they deserve it. If you think City fans are the only club whose fans aren't even open to a jest about them, I'll sum up my last 2 warnings I got on here.

Caf member: City always get the easy draws, fecking bribing the FA and Uefa for those easy draws...
Me: Both those easy draws (Bristol and Basel) already beat a much improved United this season. (cue loads of reports from Caf members)

Caf member: Courtois bummed KDB's wife.
Me: Not as bad as KDB bummed United. (as above).

I'd say both those are the very definition of not being able to deal with a jest.

Nobody was trying to deflect anything. If you think City thought they could steal United's thunder on Sanchez or would be dumb enough to try you are seriously misguided. What purpose to City's benefit could it possibly serve.

The nature of the game was a caning and was both clubs performances over the season. Yes, you have indeed come on in leaps and bounds this season just like City.
It's not a conspiracy what Sane did, but when half a forum are trying to put tons of small meaningless things together to try and make it into a bigger deal is exactly the kind of posting that leads to a BM like forum.

While your post isn't even close to the worst, or bad per se.. it was just the one at the bottom, stating the same things in a less ott way.

KdB put in his tweet, 'Here to win titles' when he extended his contract. Whether that's a dig at Sanchez is up for debate.

Where is the logic in that.

I believe their intention was to send a message of disinterest in the Sanchez deal to your own fans. No one would be stupid enough to think it would upstage or overshadow the Sanchez deal of course. I think you underestimate how petty the people involved football even at the top end are a lot of the time.

I replied to your post because you are trying to make out City fans are needlessly defending the club, except we only defend what we know is right.

You do understand in 99.99% of arguments or debates both sides see themselves as in the right?

Regarding your warnings. If I was an admin I doubt I'd have given you a warning for those but to be honest I got a warning for posting a gif in the wrong place. That is the nature of running a busy forum.

Essentially what I am getting at is that you have gone to the effort of joining a Utd forum yet seem to struggle with seeing your club given stick (not just you). Surely you expected this?

I didn't read that much into it, it was pretty expected given your style of play and the way Jose has always approached big games. A lot of Utd fans don't like it but I've seen it get enough results in the past to accept it. Either way that isn't the reason I don't like that style of argument or the reason I believe you announced the KDB deal when you did I can assure you.

The issue you're going to find in regards to City here or any Utd forum is that we don't respect the way your club has gained its success. It is that simple. I actually think this forum is extremely complimentary regarding a lot of things such as the way you've played this year and the quality of individual players (rightly so) but that won't change the core fact that in the view of a lot of Utd fans it came about in a very superficial way. Because of that, things like "money vs Pep" seem ridiculous to us and these will be brought up, no conspiracy just openly finding it ridiculous.

The KDB thing was no coincidence. Cmon...don’t kid yourself XD.

Sanchez was a big announcement, the KDB announcement got attention from United. So it did it’s job. Obviously it wasn’t substantial enough to trump it but it got attention big or small. Sane’s celebration was meaningless, really not needed from PL leaders (most likely winners) with a star quality squad playing Bristol City...but anyone finding it offensive needs to stop being a snowflake.

We got caned by City. 2-1 yeh but we still got caned, no point being in denial it won’t make us better.

But Sanchez will ;)!

As if the timing of the KDB announcement wasn’t planned. Hilarious naivety from anyone who thinks it is.

From the statement announcing they’ve pulled out of the Sanchez transfer to the “Welcome to Manchester” posters when signing Tevez (which were so small time it was funny). Everything about Manchester Citys PR team is small time and desperate to be seen as a big club like United. It’s probably even part of their media strategy.

To be fair I've no problem with anybody thinking that. Jose's plan didn't work, I wouldn't say we got caned but definitely fair enough.

Getting caned has different meanings go different people.

Heard from a mate who's a die hard Cardiff city fan connected to the club that Man city were given 4000 tickets for the FA cup match on Sunday down in the Welsh capital but have sent 1000 tickets back as they couldn't sell their full allocation. Cardiff sold all the returned tickets for a sell out today.
That's a pretty poor show all round by city considering the season they are having.

Manchester City's allocation is sold out. 3800 were gone a couple of days ago. I assume your reference to 'pretty poor show' relates to Cardiff City?

That video is offensive to my brain and I resent having watched it.

That's all.

With City signing Fred, they should sign Flint from Bristol City too. They'll then have Fred Flint and Stones playing for Abu Dhabi Doo.

Shamelessly stolen.

Non Match-Going supporters might find "shushing" / goading as "part of the entertainment"
Match-Going supporters can find it enraging.

Doing it to top Rivals like Gary Nev did to Liverpool, or Gerrard did to United, is understandable.

City Player doing it to Bristol effing City fans is class-less. (in my opinion.)

There is a loads about Sane on the OTIB forum and loads posting were at the game. The song was about his mother and her "c***".

Some didn't like his reaction, the precious ones, and some more balanced typified by this post:

"All very comical really.

S82 did our usual of berating the corner taker in front of us. This week it happened to be Sane. We like to do this as even if there is a 1% chance it puts an opposition player off their game then we’ve done our job as fans.

Clearly Sane heard it and took umbrage, and no surprise that he ran to us with a finger on his lips. Fair play to him, I’ve no problem with that.

Naturally though, this will stoke up the fans more and so he got berated even more. No malice or seriousness in any of it, just good old footy banter. We gave it, he gave it back, we gave him some more. Nowt to cry over, just good fun.

And yes, Aguero did motion an apology to us with his hands just as they were heading back to the restart. So fair play to him as well."

So 60m for Laporte... Pep is approaching the 500m mark on transfers, with no sign of stopping. This spending is on top of a quality squad that reached a CL semi-final before he came in.

There's no question they've been exceptional so far this season but considering the resources, will the media even start asking questions if Pep fails again in the CL?

He spends fortunes to bring in the best & wins league titles. Fair enough. But we saw last season how he'd do if he didn't have the best squad in the league, like at Bayern & Barca.

Feels like he could spend 500m a window and the media would paint it as Pep's gift to the world.

United broke the PL transfer record with Veron in 2001
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/1423604.stm
and then set a new record with Ferdinand the following year.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/2143600.stm

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and it took him three years to beat the Veron fee with what he paid for Sheva and another four years to break the league record (for the first time!) with Torres deal. United were spending huge amounts long before Roman's arrival.
