Pirlo was seen as a poor signing even on a free at that stage though. He was basically deemed finished after a poor last couple years at Milan. I used to frequent the Milan forum since 2006 onwards or whenever they signed Luis Ronaldo and Pirlo and Seedorf used to get the most abuse from the fans for their displays.

People are vastly overreacting. City are still the best footballing side in the league, they're still one of the favorites to win the title, and if you really want to argue anything based on today's game, it can only be that Guardiola has an edge over other managers. City thoroughly exposed Chelsea. The latter were neither better nor more clever or ruthless, they simply had an awful lot of luck on their side, they deserved nothing out of that game.
Prediction: Chelsea will drop out of the title race come spring, and City will fight it out with Liverpool.

Aye, we've had just about every team we've played this season on the ropes and haven't managed to get a win in a lot of those games. Come the end of the season no-one is going to give a feck how the winner won the PL, they'll only remember who did. Chelsea are grinding out wins even when they're not playing well, that's how you win championships.
You don't have to be the best team in terms of quality the league to win the Premier League.

And what i'm saying is you can't take away Guardiola and expect it will be the same. If a team starts playing well, sooner or later people will come to the idea that the players are good. Who's to say that is what the players have all of their own or the manager played a role in it?

Guardiola did all that. Sold Ronaldinho and Deco and focussed on Messi et al. Why wasn't Messi being brought in to the team and being made the focal point at least part of him getting to such heights? Busquets is a good example. Who knows how good he would have been had Guardiola not been there? Is his success solely his own or is it due in part because Guardiola, not only showed faith in him, but imparted a lot of knowledge to him?
I wish Jose were doing as bad a job as Guardiola. Citeh were good today and were brilliant at the start of the second half but KDB and Aguero missed excellent chances and failed to kill off the game. Chelsea scored 3 goals from 3 shots on target.

Fair enough it was the season before that, but still, the point remains he was taking over a club with a top level pedigree.
They were good because they have good players. The system was naive, and Bravo is a poor choice. I think they would have won the game comfortably with a more sensible system and an attempt to defend properly.

Can't say whether Guardiola made tactical mistakes today or just the stars of the team were unlucky notto score a second goal. Costa was immense too. Was unplayable.

Yes the match could have gone the other way. They played 3-4-3 though, it was very bold but a bit crazy to leave so many obvious holes at the back - they made it so easy to break on them. And all this despite some very good attacking play. Chelsea had three at the back but were much more compact and defended as a team.
Just one game and they still have a shout, especially while De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero are playing, but I still feel like they are underachieving. A bit like us really.
Such a shame he hasn't called spade a spade, didn't say Aguero's challenge was awful.
Incidentally, I'd say today's performance from City is the closest thing I've seen to us over the past month. They played well, had boatloads of chances and should have put the game away long before they conceded a soft goal to let Chelsea back into it. Chelsea, on the other hand, took their chances expertly. The difference today was that Costa made the most of the scraps he got to work with, whereas Aguero, in what was a most impressive Zlatan impression, wasted chance after chance.

Exactly, yet again this season city have been badly exposed in a match and been soundly beaten yet there is praise from some quarters for aspects of the performance.
Like you said city have good players, playing at home I expect them to create chances. It's nothing most top teams in their country don't do.
Playing as they did today was begging to be hit on the counter. The only way Peps set up today would have worked perfectly is if city literally completely starved Chelsea of possession.
Whilst in the first half they pushed Chelsea's wing backs deep into their half, all Chelsea needed was a slight tactical tweak to expose city. Push Hazard and Willian wider and play early direct long balls. They did that and it was complete chaos.
That's just it, he doesn't seem to have realised that yet. You can't be playing like this in this league, he must surely realise he hasnt got anywhere near the talent he had at Bayern and Barca. You can't ask people like Kolarov, Clichy, Stones and Navas to play in complex multiple roles and positions. I think it's more complete belief in himself and his methods more than his belief in the team. And if he carries on down this road of arrogance city won't be getting close this year. So long may it continue.
I think it is the same way with managers as with players, between the top dogs it is too close to call and it all depends on the environment and their fit with the club.
Just like a great player will be a success at one club, but a failure at another, all depending on circumstances.
