Manchester City vs. Manchester United

The master bottled it. We have played well with 4-4-2 and won the same way with City before so what makes him think playing a hopelessly out of form Park in a midfield three is a good idea?

Complete and utter joke.

Playing 4-4-2 at City would have been fecking insane. We gave a very soft goal away. That's the critical detail.

Anyway, we lost this title at home to Everton. Even if we played very well tonight we could easily have still lost because they're very strong at home.

Beat them in the FA Cup playing 4-4-2, and yes I'm aware the Kompany red card skewered the result.

We'll just never know what if. I don't understand why Valencia didn't start and how Giggs played a full 90.

I dunno where to start. Park is a bag of fecking shite. I honestly reckon I could do a better job than him. Blame lies with Fergie though, he's gifted it to them. Can't believe it.

Anderson, Fletcher both unavailable. Too big a game to throw Cleverley into really. We had to play three in the middle tonight otherwise they'd have completely torn us apart.

That was a horrible game.

fecking painful all round. Jones held us up at times but was so poor going forward, Giggs sloppy, Rooney unable to break into the game. Valencia came on too late. Carrick was good, as were Rio, Evra and De Gea when called upon made a good stop against Clichy.

You get the feeling we didn't have the means to stop the Aguero-Tevez-Nasri-Silva link up play tonight. If Evans had been fit we could have played Jones in front of the back four but it seemed Fergie was (fairly understandbly) set on the tried and trusted Park 4-5-1 for scraping out an away result and dealing with Yaya in the process. And though Park was in hindsight the wrong choice and failed to cope with Toure's threat you do get the feeling City were going to win no matter who we played tonight. Probably the most frustrating aspect of the defeat is that the goal came from a corner, because otherwise holding onto a 0-0 was not an unreasonable task.

SAF: feisty game, poor crossing, not many chances created, nothing happened. They were more threatening. Lapse of concentration cost us the goal and bad time to concede. Good start but not much happened in the game. SAF said Mancini was complaining too much which is why he got angered. City in driving seat. Everton game was the worst this season.

Problems. De Gea ability to come out on crosses is his weakness. But overall he has been very good this year.

As for today's game, I didn't United were set up well for counter attacks. That was the main problem. The three players I would pick out as the main issue were Giggs, Nani and Park. First off Park. It's difficult to ask him to play at his best when doesn't seem to get a game in a month. Nani and Giggs provide no threat on the flanks at all. I'm not sure why Valencia started on the bench. Was there an injury issue? Outside of Rooney, Valencia has been United most dangerous player.

I would have played Rooney in Park's position. He gives you more threat and is in match form which Park cannot possibly be considering he has played in how long? I would have used Hernandez up from because he has the speed to worry City. Valencia at RM and Either Young or Park (if your worried about protecting Evra but how much protection did Giggs provide?).

Otherwise, I though Carrick and Scholes played very well. But, United attacking strength is their flanks and today their flanks were poor(Giggs and Nani).

This summer Jones should go to school. Increase his general intelligence. His ability to think sometimes is quite shocking but he has tremendous physical ability. Maybe they should teach him geometry. ;)

Any reason why Valencia didn't start? I was shocked.

Seriously Rooney could play there and give you more than Park. I could play Rooney in 8 positions on the field (not CB or GK) and he'd do a fine job.

How many times do United have to go against a top opponent and use Giggs and Scholes? I don't mind one of them and I would pick Scholes at CM. They get over run otherwise.

We just do not have the legs or guile in midfield against teams with those floating play makers with great technique and a speedy pressing game.

It's disappointing to lose but it's not the first time it's been a case of a game getting beyond us for these very reasons.

So...
Guard of honour or winning it at etihad :(

Agent Danny Simpson will keep City out and help us take the lead on Sunday. Believe.

City outplayed us most of the time until about the last 15 minutes when Valencia came on and we had more urgency. I think the team selection was wrong from the start and it looked like we were playing for a draw. I do think City is a slightly better team than us at the moment so with our injuries and young players it's remarkable that we are even on points really. Having said that if we had beaten Everton this would not have mattered.

Playing for the draw not the united way, very disappointed.

They played well and dominated the game especially there left flank.

Hoped for Rafael and valencia with nani on the left.

Rather have played our best team and give it a go then limp out trying to scrape a draw.

After getting such a strong position it feels like we have thrown it away but still level on points and you never know what Newcastle can produce.

Giggs and Park have been squad players the last few months where as Valencia and young have been match winners.

We have the players to do serious damage but decided against it.

I despair. when we get stuffed, Fergie has to answer for that shambles. We have not played well with park and giggs on the pitch for about 12 months, and Valencia has been our best weapon.

For the umpteenth time this season, Fergie has gotten it massively wrong. Is there some benefit to us losing only he can see?

Had some pretty definitive beastings for posting this when I saw the lineups.

But as much as it saddens me, we've almost lost every match that both Giggs and Park have started in. Regardless of who we're playing.

Hence, starting them in our most important game of the season was not a gamble, it was a gift to Mancini and the bitters.

Ah bollocks to that.

No penetration, no chances created - feck all. Rooney up top on his own is useless.

Fergie gambled but failed.

One of the most painful defeats yet.

Which makes no sense. Why gamble on the biggest match of the season. Fergie lost the plot today. Not starting Valencia? Wtf.....mind boggling.

Could have paid off if Kompany had not scored and we would have talked about it like it was a master stroke.

But, hey, like I said before, a squad in transition playing for the title is still great.

I'm still.proud. Proud to be red.

Newcastle to do us a favour?

I think you are bang on. I would have went for Valencia, Rafael and Nani (on the left and not right) and not Giggs and Jones.

Historically Giggs in this type of match just doesn't offer enough physically at his stage in his career. Not a bad choice coming off the bench though. As you said Giggs and Park just not in enough games to warrant the start in a game of this magnitude.

It's all well and good to sit back but you have to be able to counter attack. The players he had out there were not able to do that. As I said in an earlier post, why doesn't SAF use Rooney as the 5th midfielder and then have Chicharito as the lone striker?

I think SAF got the line up wrong and then waited too long to bring Valencia on.
