Manchester United v AC Milan

Maybe, but seeing as Scholes wasn't in your team surely he's a shout to have on the bench

It was obviously a misstake. Since you screwed my head over, i'll change to:

-----------------VDS---------------
Fletcher---O'Shea---Brown---Heinze
-----------Carrick---Scholes--------
Ronaldo---------Giggs---------Rooney
----------------Smith---------------

VDS
O'Shea-Brown-Heinze-Evra
-Fletcher-Carrick-Scholes-
Ronaldo---------Rooney

1-0,Smith

The problem with Scholes, and it always has been a problem, he's shit at defensive duties. He knows it, we know it, and the rest of Europe knows it.

With all of our first 4 defenders out injured, we cannot afford AC Milan the luxury of having multipul free kicks outside of our area. We have to think defensively in midfield and provide our makeshift defense some kind of chance during the match. That means that it has to be Fletcher and Carrick in the middle.

Scholes is 1 yellow away from suspension, and personally i'd much rather see Scholes in the Final than getting suspended for the match. Just because Scholes is a brilliant player doesn't mean he warrants an automatic first team callup. You have to think tactically, and with our injury crisis, Scholes has to be 'rested'.

To be fair Fletcher has been fecking everywhere in his last few games for us. He's the fittest bloke in the squad without a doubt.

I think we played great with the midfield we got against Roma but giving the experience of Scholes i don't think fergie would drop him... fletcher is a better option to defend a lot more and Carrick to go upfront cause Scholes is bad as F-ck defending

Giggs needs a rest, he's not playing good lately, looks tired and the league must be priority. Two wins against Everton and City will hopefully win the league.
Hope Evra is back.

That's what I would do although I'm not sure how Fergie will play it. We really need to go out and get a few goals so we have something in the bank for the second leg. Our weakness is no doubt that defence. We need world class players and experience in a game like this, and we are going to miss Rio, because he is both world class and experienced.
They have an ageing defence, but serious class and experience at the back. We have a pacier defence, but without Rio lack experince and quality at this level. I really feel this is where the games may be won or lost.
Predicition for first leg - 3-1 United.

Statistically Scholes is the worst tackler in the history of the ECL....... if any of you fruitcakes think Milan wont try and exploit this fact to the absolute max then you need youre head examining.....

Please SAF dont get all sentimental and start with Scholes...... logic SAF, logic!!!

feck off.

we're Manchester United, we don't play 5 in midfield against anybody at home. Leave Scholes out? what the feck are youse cnuts talking about? ffs. Jesus it boggles the mind what some of youse are doing when the football is on, cos you're clearly not watching very closely.

stick with the 4-2-3-1 or alternativly play rooney up front alone and stick Fletcher on later in the game. fecking idiots.

sorry to hear that you reckon Giggs isn't playing 'good' lately, cos he's been fecking amazing actually. Watford- he ran the feckin show up front, easily the best player on the pitch vs Roma, excellent vs Sheffield, what a chip into Rooney's feet, did ok against Boro when the game should have and probably would have been put to bed by the time he came on, had he played from the start.

explain yourself.

In my opinion it should be.
-----------VDS
O'shea Brown Heinze Evra

Fletcher Carrick Scholes

Ronaldo----------Giggs

---------Rooney

We need a 3 men CM. Milan will play Gatusso, Pirlo and Seedorf together. Just Scholes and Carrick wont be enough. We are not playing freaking Roma here guy,s as bad as Milan have been in the league this year they are the best team in the CL in the last 5 years we cannot afford hand them over our midfield.

Where is Wayne Rooney??

Which is why we play a 5 man midfield... we did it against Roma.

So we only have 4 defenders fit for Tuesday... which ones will make the bench? i really didn't find which ones... we need Fletcher on midfield and that's not an option cause our defence is not Vida and Rio...

2-1 Rooney, Ronaldo - Kaka

Scholes plays, no matter what wonderful over elaborate formation people come up with. Even if you want to play a 3 man midfield he *should* play.

And to think people are benching him... crazy.

Sorry buddy..... the fact is MUFC put in one of their best performances in any competition for years without Scholes in the side....

Now obviously that in itself isnt reason enough but it sure as hell does make a point!!

Milan are awesome at set pieces........Scholes in side = freekicks conceded outside the box = ????

The team that will start is obviously:

-----------------VDS---------------
Fletcher---O'Shea---Brown---Heinze
-----------Carrick---Scholes--------
Ronaldo---------Giggs---------Rooney
----------------Smith---------------

Giggs and Scholes will need to be very disciplined when we don't have the ball.
The main worry is Brown/Heinze and whether they can cope with the short one-twos and balls behind them.
Also, we've traditionally been caught out by long-range shooting, too slow to close men down. Again, it's Brown/Heinze who need to step up when needed.

Assuming Evra is fit, and Gaz fit enough to be on the bench, I'd go with:

---------------VdS--------------
O'Shea---Brown----Heinze-----Evra
---------Carrick---Scholes--------
Ronaldo-------Rooney--------Giggs
--------------Smith---------------

subs: Fletcher, Kuszczak, Solskjaer, Neville, Eagles, Dong, Chester

But, I expect to see this team:

---------------VdS--------------
O'Shea---Brown----Heinze-----Evra
-----Fletcher-Carrick---Scholes-----
Ronaldo----------------------Giggs
--------------Rooney---------------

subs: Smith, the rest

This is going to be really difficult without our 3 best defenders. Man-marking Kaka (a job surely for the tireless Fletcher) is the key to stopping them, but don't be surprised if Milan play deep and invite us on, they will try to kill the game. I'd fancy us on the break against them because of our pace, but they will play deep and keep the ball for as long as poss. I think a Roma style performance from Giggs, Fletcher, Smith and Carrick could help build a lead, but this will be our toughest game to date this season

---------------------------VDS------------------------------

O'SHEA---------BROWN-------------HEINZE----------EVRA

-----------------CARRICK------------FLETCHER---------------

RONALDO------------------SCHOLES----------------ROONEY

-----------------------SMITH--------------------------------

BENCH: PIG, GIGGS, EAGLES, BRANDY, DONG, SOLSKJAER, ECKERSLEY

I fully agree with you about the first eleven

Bench \: Kuzsczak, Nevile (for mental help :)), Rio (same reason), Giggs, Dong, Solskjaer, Saha

Bugger....

Latest word on the grapevine is that Evra trained in the walking wounded section today with Richardson, Saha and Vidic.....

We're in trouble me thinks....

You have to put Fletcher in the team. Carrick and Scholes have been labouring in the past few matches. Bring Fletcher in to provide the legs to keep Kaka quiet.

I'd still play the same first team as against Roma, but put Evra in and slide Heinze to central defense to replace Rio.

Pretty much the team I would play considering our problems:

-----------------VDS---------------
Fletcher---O'Shea---Brown---Heinze
-----------Carrick---Scholes--------
Ronaldo---------Giggs---------Rooney
----------------Smith---------------

Subs: Kuszczak, Solskjaer, Dong, Eagles, ?, ?, ?:nervous:

Attack is the best form of defence, however it is essential that we do not concede an away goal.

------------VDS----------
O'Shea-Brown-Heinze-Evra
-----Fletcher-Carrick-----
---------Scholes---------
Ronaldo-------------Giggs
----------Rooney---------

Milan will play Seedorf and Kaka in the space in between backline and midfield. They are tough to pick up and so I would have Carrick and Fletcher anchoring. This will also give additional protection to a muddled backline.

1-0 United.

------------VDS----------
O'Shea-Brown-Heinze-Evra
-----Fletcher-Carrick-----
---------Scholes---------
Ronaldo-------------Giggs
----------Rooney---------

This might be the best compromise formation I think although you would maybe have Scholes a bit further forward so he was properly 'in the hole'.

I cant believe we have soooooo few defenders fit - God i hope Evra is good to start - Fletch at RB is a waste of someone who in his best position could prove exceptionally useful against Milan.

I can see SAF wanting Fletcher in midfield for thsi one - the problem is that it seems Evra is only fit enough for the bench at best, so we'll probably have to use Fletcher as RB.

It sounds weird but i think our chances are heavily reliant on whether Evra starts - if he doesnt it means Fletch at RB, which is a pisser because he would be perfect for hunting down Kaka or Seedorf...
