Manchester United v AC Milan

Because Fergie has bottled it and played safe, like he always does in European games, unless we go a goal down early on.

Why arn't I looking forward to this game?

I agree with you but I reckon we will win by two goals. Probably 3-1.

Shocking that Smithy aint playing, just the sort of player we need to press from the front.

Dissapointed.

Good line up.

You have to take into account Milan have Kaka, Pirlo and Gattusso in midfield. Fletcher will shore up the midfield and will leave more room for Scholes.

WTF FFS

Why wouldnt he start the same team that destroyed roma save Rio??

Probably because there is no Rio? Can Carrick and Scholes contain Pirlo, Gattuso and Kaka? Probably not. Our midfield would get overrun and offer very little protection to our already weakened back line.

I think Fergie got it tactically spot on. Well, at least I hope he did.

Agreed.

Taking Smith out takes a bit out of our attack but replacing him with Fletcher is a good move, he will help to close down their midfield.

 Why is Smith on the bench?

We could really do with his pressing from the front, put the Ities under pressure theyre not used to. Was a key facet of our win over Roma IMO.

Otherwise, good team.

Because it is very important we dont let them get an away goal, and fletch will offer more defensively to help out the makeshift back four...

Roma and Milan are not one and the same is why. They bring a different threat, don't have the same mentality football wise.

I have faith.

UNITED!!

Click on my username and you can find posts i started about the italian league and my total disdain for their brand of football. Milan are a good side but we are cowering to them like we did a few years ago. Certainly this team can still tear Milan apart but what can smithy do to earn a start in the biggest game of the year?

Very very cautious line up.

5 feckin man midfield. I even expect to see Rooney wide left and Giggs or Ronaldo as the lone front man.

:nervous:

------------------VDS--------------
----O'Shea---Brown---Heinze---Evra
--------Fletcher-Carrick-Scholes----
---Ronaldo------Rooney-------Giggs

Think of the formation like this according to sky sports. It does look fairly balanced in terms of attack and defence. Definitely going for the option of all out pace up front, which could be an advantage against their defence.

Will if thats the case the ok but i dont believe it will actually look like that on the pitch more like rooney playing the lone striker

muppets on RTE being reasonable tonight so far .. they're 'amazed' Smith isn't playing but they're being fair enough .. gave Ronny a hard time as usual though

Didn't call him a poofball again did they?

I understand why you might draw that conclusion, and i too hope we don't afford them the unnecessary respect we gave to Real Madrid in 02/03.

Milan two seasons ago was more us just not being in their league over the two legs, and not so much our respect for them IMO.

Evra will be an attacking threat we've missed recently, it'll be interesting to see if he needs the first half to regain his sharpness or not.

We can trust that our most dangerous players will have a fair bit of freedom.

Time will tell.

Kaka and Seedorf will both interchange in the hole we need Fletcher picking up those runs, he needs a nig game tonight.

7-1 United.
United :Ronaldo (2, 17), Rooney (4, 34), Ferdinand (68), Evra (89), Scholes (90).
Milan : Wes Brown, OG (89)

Milan playing their expected team btw. Dida is fit which is annoying, their at full strength.

----------------Dida--------------------

Oddo --- Nesta --- Maldini --- Jankulovski

Gattuso --- Ambrosini --- Pirlo --- Seedorf
--------------- Kaka -------------------
------------- Gilardino -----------------

feckin knew Dida would be fit. hope he has a terrible game.

That clearly wasnt the case in 05. Milan were given way to much respect by us and punished us for it. Liverpool having no choice after going down 3-0 kept attacking and was rewarded by beating milan. Certainly we were as good as liverpool in 05 werent we?

We can say over the two legs they were better (which they were) but did we create one real scoring opportunity in the 2 games. I dont want us to fall into the same trap again.

Fair post though

Its obvious to me that Ronaldo is going to be playing up front. Maybe Fergie fancies his pace against Nesta and Maldini. If he was playing on the wing its likely they would double up on him (plus the full backs are quicker). I'm thinking they might be looking for Ronaldo to exploit the lack of pace in the centre with his pace and trickery or a killer ball through the middle.

OK , stuck at work, nursing a hangover ...still... can anuone pm with a live streaming link other than MUFC.COM, appreciatte it

Would luv it.

However those dirty cnuts might kill him in the process

Ferdinand going to knock the ball in the net via the treatment room?

Surprise sub. He's actually disguised as Richardson tonight, just so Milan don't bother marking him and assume he's shite.

It's all part of very clever tactics being employed by Fergie. Just wait and see. ;)
