Manchester United v Arsenal

If those guys play well, then on their day they are indeed exceptional. I have always respected Arsenal for their talent. Wishere has pretty taken over Fab, in the sense that he is their Fabregas when Cesc is not playing.

"On their day"? You could say that about most teams. Their midfield is considerably weaker when you take Fabregas out of it and is nothing compared to some of Wenger's previous midfields. If Fabregas doesn't make it tonight then it will be Song, Wilshere + Nasri or Song, Wilshere + Diaby. That is not an exceptional midfield.

Also, Wilshere hasn't taken over Fabregas at all. Fabregas has started 12 games this season, 8 of which Wilshere also started. They play very different roles with Wilshere really taking on a lot of responsibilty in quite a deep role. The player that moves about dependant on Fabregas playing seems to be Nasri.

Im pretty sure Berbatov will start this the more i think about it, the way he and Rooney have linked up in recent weeks wont have gone unnoticed by the management, its a partnership thats bringing the very best out of both at the moment it seems, Rooneys return to form has come in a deeper role playing off Berbatov and Berba is just off the back of scoring 5 in his last league game at OT, if hes not going to start now then he never will start in these games lets be honest.

I agree.

Here's how we lined up against them at Home last season.

Rafael and Evra are going to have their hands full tonight with Arshavin down the left and Nasri/Walcott down the right.

They were easily the better team. Everyone said we were lucky to get three points from that game.

Yeh I knew they outplayed us in 1 of the games, just couldn't remember which.

I'm confident about tonight though and fancy us to beat them by a couple of goals but so far this weekend I have been very wrong about my "feelings". I thought both Liverpool and Chelsea would record comfortable victories :nervous:

I've said it before in this thread, I'm not overly confident about today's game. Can anyone reassure my pessimistic views.

Nothing we can do about you're negative views you feckin' pussy. Man up.

It is a very tough decision for Fergie. He kinda has to play Rooney-Berba because of the way they have been playing the last two weeks. Park is another option who will run his lungs out and close down people. So it is like having an extra centrally midfielder in Park. He could play Giggs because of his experience and ability. I just hope Fergie does not pull a Ancelotti and leave Rooney or Berba on the bench.

I am also positive both will start. If our midfield 3 have a solid day, we will do well. Rooney and Berba have both done well being our first line of defense on top of their other duties. Rooney has always tracked back and fought for possesion, and Berba has also been doing this increasingly. This is why the smooth interchange in position between the 2 of them and Nani has looked good.

Without Valencia in the side he has to play Berbatov and Nani.

7 hours to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
feck sake hurry up!!!!!

Can't wait for this one. Only 7 hours to go.

My preferred line up.

----------------------VDS
---Rafael----Ferdinand----Vidic----Evra----
--Nani-----Carrick---Anderson---Fletcher---Giggs---
---------------------Rooney---------------------

Harsh on Berbatov but we need to dominate the midfield.

This thread is going to be imense, over 450 posts already & we haven't even kicked off yet!

I think the record so far this season has been 1208 for the Carling Cup vs West Ham (Remember that one? Where certain people were saying the result didn't matter becasue it was only the Carling Cup, yet it was still the longest Matchday Thread of the season?)

The only way this one will fail to beat that one is if a boring 0-0 draw is played out, can't see that happening tbh...

it's not going to be immense if we go behind by a couple of goals....in that case it's going to be deserted.

Are you kidding me? Then the thread will truly take off. We are so shit/ Park just sucks and We should have bought a creative central mid in the summer will mean it'll reach a new record high.

I'm already shitting it... gonna watch this with two of my Arsenal supporting mates, so we better give them a good battering ;)

Van der Sar
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Fletcher
Nani - Anderson - Park
Rooney

Harsh on Berba, but still.... come on United!

Rooney to show them up.

Missing this due to work, gutted. Hopefully I can avoid the score and watch the recording when I get in.

There's a w a n k f e s t in Polish press, because Fabiański may not play due to his injury and as Wenger doesn't want Almunia, it's time for 20-year old Szczęsny.

Very smart move by Fabiański if it's true. He knows United will score some goals (and it may cost Arsenal one or three points), his opponent will lose a game for the Gunners and Fabiański will come back as a number one with no rivals at this position.

Didn't know Arsenal had two PIGs.

Is Flappyhandski injured?

Seems so from what Maciek has posted.

Park will definitely play this so can't see Rooney on the left with Berba in the middle in a 4-3-3.

If we play 1 striker Berba will be the one to go out.

Quite the opposite. This place is at it's most active when we lose.

My bad...I don't post in the match threads very often, usually go into the United forum afterwards, and observe the carnage there.

And may he have a stinker. Even though I understand if you are torn in your loyalty because of nationalistic reasons.
Both Fabiański and Szczęsny are Poles. I'm just saying that the injury of Fabiański is probably more serious than it looked after Partizan game and I really won't be surprised if Szczęsny starts.

And I also think that he'll become better goalkeeper than Fabiański, only God knows how would he play against United, it may be a very easy game for us with many goals, but personally, it won't surprise me if he'll keep a clean sheet and give Arsenal a point or even three at the end of the day.

PS. I don't like Kuszczak, I don't like Fabiański and I don't like Szczęsny. And it's nothing with nationalistic reasons.

Arsenal have scored eight goals in the league at OT since the Premier League began, 18 games total...

But on the other side of that, we have the best away record in the league, and there must be a reason for that. This game will be determined by how well Arsenal defend, and how well you retain the ball in midfield. If we dominate possession, which we normally do, whilst not making any feck ups like last year, we will almost certainly get something from the game. I don't think it's a case of "United will probably win" - it's been pretty close the last few years, and you were somewhat fortunate to win last year.

I wouldn't get to excited.

You were unbeaten Away in the league for 9 months before your last visit to Old Trafford.

Szczęsny is rated very highly by the Arsenal forum.

Along with the rest of their youngsters. There's no surprise there. I've seen him twice (both in the CC) and in the Newcastle game he pulled off some really good saves. In terms of his all round goalkeeping though I didn't rate him much.
