Manchester United v Arsenal

I might actually be getting to this, obviously in the away end. I'm relying on a mate not to let me down. At least if I'm there, I won't be on the Caf immediately after to take the flak if we lose.

Well if your not there then there will probably be no Gooner on here if you'll lose :D

I'm sure Pete will brave it, and Jopub can use it as a chance to encourage the departure of Wenger.

I'm staying positive for now though, we have the stronger bench, so if we're drawing after an hour, I think we may well nick it. It's all about our defensive display, which is up in the air. Could be excellent, could be hideous. It has to be at least an 8/10. Should be a good game either way, these games are rarely shit.

Rooney up front, whether he's with a partner or not. Just please no left wing for him!

We will have to play 5 across midfield. No point playing 4-4-2 against an almost certainly a 4-5-1 Arsenal.

To be fair the last few games at OT have been very close (Haven't they all been 2-1 recently? 2009, 2008 and 2007 were, can't remember before that), so I expect similar. Both defences aren't up to scratch but both teams are playing some excellent attacking football, hopefully we see plenty of goals and a United win.

I was referring to PL games. I got the last 2 at OT right, could've swear the one where Adebayor scored in the last min was 2-1.

Ah well.

That one was 1-0. Cesc put him through on goal. Ruined our perfect start to the season.

manchester united manager sir alex ferguson played down concerns over an injury to centre-back rio ferdinand.
Ferdinand was taken off after 50 minutes of the 1-1 draw against valencia ahead of the premier league game against arsenal on monday.
"it's a tight hamstring - not a tear or anything like that," said ferguson.
"i'm sure he'll be ok for monday. He felt it at half time but wanted to carry on. But we have several days now to make sure he is right.

:d

Game is played on my birthday, I'm hoping the lads does me the favour.

This should be a crackingh gamne, can't wait!

Evra will have had a two week rest by the time Monday comes. I really hope Rio and Scholes are fit. We most definitely need them especially if they have Fabregas playing. They are playing really well this past month. It will be a very tough game and not as easy as some people here suggest by their predictions.

Ferdinand will be fine Sir alex has said so, Scholes to me is not a major loss and i say that because i think in the past we've favoured and benefited by using 'legs' in and around the Arsenal midfield, and by that i obviously mean high energy players who get in and around the arsenal players and don't give the time on the ball the likes of Anderson/Fletcher/Park etc have always been favoured by Sir alex against Arsenal for that very reason and they've always excelled......plus a Fletcher/Carrick/Anderson midfield was the same trio that totally annihilated Arsenals Song Fabregas and co in the two legged champions league games the other season, they owned the midfield superbly.

To be honest im not sure even if Scholes is fit whether hed start this anyway.

I'll be surprised if Berbatov starts this. Expecting a Nani Rooney Park frontline. You can't not play Park in a game like this.

Anderson Fletcher Scholes in midfield as well.

Dunno about that.

Rooney has been great in the last two games, but mainly as a creative force, not as leading the attacking line. It's about time that he scores his first goals in open play since March but I don't think that SAF will start with Rooney as a lone striker, provided he hasn't played as a lone striker this season.

So Scholes a major doubt according to SAF.

I would line em up like this:

-----------------VDS-----------------
Rafael----Vida--------Rio-------Evra
----------------Carrick---------------
-------Flecth------------Ando--------
Nani---------------------------Rooney
-----------------Berbs----------------

SUBS: Amos, Smalling, Fabio, Park, Giggs, Obertan, Hernandez

I hope the atmosphere is good for this given its a "big game". Only atmosphere ive liked this season is the Liverpool match.

Scholes a doubt :(

Paul Scholes is "doubtful" for Manchester United's Premier League showdown with Arsenal next Monday, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed.

The 36-year-old midfielder has not played since picking up a groin injury against Rangers last month.

He was expected to play some part in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Valencia but suffered a minor setback in training.

"Paul tried training on Sunday and came off," said Ferguson. "He will be doubtful for next Monday."

Scholes has been at his influential best this season, helping guide United to second place in the Premier League, one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand.

Six days after the home game against the Gunners, United travel to champions Chelsea ahead of a Christmas schedule which features four games in 10 days.

The absence of Scholes had handed an opportunity to Anderson, who has started United's last three games following his return from a cruciate ligament injury.

Taken from a longer piece - BBC Sport - Football - Paul Scholes doubtful for Man United-Arsenal match

Can't see SAF dropping Berbatov even if I think playing one forward is the way to go.

With the creativity we have in Nani, Rooney, Anderson and Berbatov, we could do well without Scholes, IMO. I hope so.

If we start with Scholes, then we'll need two other CMs next to him. Which means that one from Park and Berba would be on the bench.

I think that we'll probably play 4-4-2, maybe the same team as vs Blackburn.

I'd go 4-4-2 in this one. Neither Rooney or Berbs deserve to be dropped, or accommodated in wide areas. We're playing well and we're at home, so lets attack them.

It means we mightn't be as compact in centre midfield than with the 3 in there, but we should be able to retain the ball better higher up the pitch which is just as important, with Berbatov as the focal point and the likes of Rooney, Park and Nani feeding off him. The 2 targets upfront will give our midfielders more than one option for a pass, and occupy the Arsenal centrehalfs better, defending from the front, giving them less time to play it out from the back.

Out of curiosity, how many games have your subs changed for the better this season?

Rather than get stronger or look fresher late in games, you've looked nervy and fragile to me.

Rooney dropping to the left in the last minutes of the match yesterday give you this hint?

Personally, I'm all for Rooney and Berbatov starting together up front on Monday. Who'd be our midfield pairing then though?

4-3-3 please, Arse will fancy their chances against a 4-4-2 with just Carrick and Anderson.

Yeah i'd go along with that, but with Rooney tasked with the job of getting in and around Song (if he's their deepest lying midfielder) for the main part, so simply a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 that way we don't get over run in midfield but keep the form players in the side at the moment.

I fancy us for this.

I like that too.

Tempted to drop Park, stick Rooney on the left with Berb up top but Park is consistently excellent vs l'Arse and Rooney is much better than Berbatov at playing up top on his own.

442 is asking for trouble IMO.
