Manchester united's wayne rooney misses stoke clash

WAYNE ROONEY is set to miss Manchester United’s game against Stoke at Old Trafford tomorrow, but hopes to be fit to face Liverpool in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Rooney’s joy at ending his nine-month wait for a goal from open play for United against West Brom on Saturday was tempered when he pulled up in agony after twisting his left ankle late in the game.

Sir Alex Ferguson said he feared a two-week lay-off for his striker but Rooney, who limped back on to the pitch to help United see out the game after all three substitutes had been used, has told friends he expects to miss only one match.

United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak will tell Ferguson he wants to leave Old Trafford.

Kuszczak, 28, played his first league game for a year at West Brom because Edwin van der Sar had flu.

But Kuszczak, who was bought from West Brom for £2.1million five years ago, knows he will be axed again tomorrow if Van der Sar is fit.

Ferguson is looking to buy a new keeper when Van der Sar, 40, retires in the summer and has also paid £3.5m for Anders Lindegaard, who will be No2.

Kuszczak said: “I don’t get too many games and of course I would like regular football.

“I will wait to see what happens at the end of the season, but I do want to be playing. I need to see what the boss wants to do. Whether he wants to play me or sell me I don’t know.

“I was glad to play against West Brom. It is my old club and the people were nice to me.

“Every player has his ambitions and I have mine. I have sat on the bench for five years, but that means nothing to me. I have some experience now and I can use that.

“I need a chance to play more than one game in two or three months. You can’t prove anything like that.”

Was nailed on, as soon as Fergie said he expected him to be ok for Stoke he was never going to be fit, he said the same about Nani before the brummie game.

Just hope hes back soon, hes finally broken the duck and any injury lay off now would be a nightmare really.

"He had an ankle injury (and needed treatment) but he came back on, that shows his courage. Our doctor thought, ‘That’s him – he’ll be out for a couple of weeks.’ But he came back on and he should be okay for Tuesday."

The fergie kiss of death.

Honestly love the man but it has to be said has he ever got an injury prognosis right in his entire career? theres the 2 week gems to remember, he said he expected Nani back for Birmingham yet we haven't seen him 2 games on from that.

I'm more concerned about Nani being out this long...or so it seems with all these games we have played over the Holiday season.

Fingers crossed Nani will be back for Stoke, with the games against Liverpool and Spurs coming up we need him for sure, hes missed the entire festive programme and hasnt played since the Arsenal game, hes going to be a bit rusty so ideal to get him back against Stoke ahead of the big games coming up.

Then again id rather we beat Stoke than Liverpool given the leagues far more important.

don't know about you...but I would be gutted to lose to the dippers....

Oh of course that goes without saying, BUT if someone said to me you can only win one of the next 2 games its Stoke every time without hesitation, you never want to lose against them and im very confident we will beat them but the premier league is the priority and we're in a great position, 3 points on Tuesday in my view is more important than a cup win against Liverpool.

That is why I would rather play a strong team against Stoke bar Rooney and play a few second teamers against Liverpool, so a few players can get a good rest of 10 odd days.

I see no reason for a weakened line-up against Liverpool. Fergie would surely not want to risk the humiliation of losing to them, and we don't have a game for a week after that!

Has Fergie had a press conference yet to confirm who's in or out?

I'm expecting to see:

VDS
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Nani Carrick Fletcher Giggs
Hernandez Berbatov

Hernandez & Berba to start as Rooney is injured.

Owen to come on for Berba in the 2nd half, he's had a pretty full schedule over Xmas/New Year, then Owen ready for the Scousers on Saturday...

I have a silly question, I'm reading BBC's preview and they have the following on our players:

Man Utd

Doubtful: Evra (black eye), Gibson (unspecified), Nani (hip), Rooney (ankle)

Wait, What? (and how does that prevent you from playing?)

His eye was completely closed after the game on Saturday. I should imagine the swelling has gone down sufficiently enough for it not to be an issue by now.

That's very racist from the BBC.

If Rooney and Berba play together, then Berba gains more and he scores more than Rooney.

If Berba and Chicharito play together, then Chicharito gains more and he scores more than Berba.

Daily Mail says Rooney trained and is fit.

Again we don't have to risk him for this game. He can come of the bench if we absolutely need him in the second half. There is no reason for him to start. If he rests for this game, then he gets a 8 day rest and can play against both Pool and Spurs.

He is not going to miss games, just the one against Stoke to be on the safe side. If the swelling or whatever happened to his leg is not clearly healed, then there is a chance for him to miss games if something happens against Stoke and they are a really physical team.

What exactly happened to Evra? How did he get a black eye again?

Pretty funny interview with Evra on MUTV earlier. He said he got the black eye from Vidic elbowing him, and was laughing about it saying 'thats how Nemanja wishes people happy christmas in Serbia'.

His eye is fine now by the way.

Im sure whatever happens he wont be 'risked', if he plays its because hes fit to.

Play everyone. Absolutely no need to rest anyone. Liverpool games is 4 or 5 days away and the game after that is a further 11-12 days from today.
