Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur

not been hit this hard with injuries in either of the last two seasons, especially at such a hectic time.

VDS

FLETCHER (not much other choice)
VIDIC
NEVILLE
O'SHEA

CARRICK
SCHOLES
GIBSON

RONALDO
TEVEZ
BERBATOV

Squad for tomorrow
Van der sar, Kuszczak, Foster, Chester, Eckersley, Fabio, Neville, O'Shea, Vidic, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, Gibson, Possebon, Tosic, Tevez, Berbatov, Welbeck, Macheda

So no Nani then.

Suspect the team will be something like this:

Van Der Sar

Fletcher - Neville - Vidic - O'Shea

Gibson - Scholes - Carrick - Ronaldo

Tevez - Berbatov

Giggs I reckon will be rested for the West Brom match. But I suppose he could easily play as well.

As I thought......

Redknapp promises 'strongest' team to face United

Redknapp had said before that he would play his weakest team as Spurs look to get of a relegation battle

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has back-tracked on plans to field his 'weakest' side against Manchester United this weekend - but an injury crisis means fringe players will still get to fight for their futures.
Redknapp may have up to 11 players in the treatment room and admits tomorrow's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Old Trafford is way down on his list of priorities, with Spurs already in the Carling Cup final and fighting to climb out of trouble in the Barclays Premier League.
It means fit first-team players such as Didier Zokora, Jermain Defoe, David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko will feature - and Giovani dos Santos, Ricardo Rocha and Adel Taarabt will get their chance to impress.
"I'm going to field the strongest team possible," said Redknapp, who won the trophy with Portsmouth last season.
"I've got so many injuries that it's way, way short of lots of players who are regulars in the team."
Redknapp insists he will respect the competition by fielding available first-team players, unlike Stoke and Blackburn earlier in the season.
"It's the greatest cup competition of all, but let's look at the other teams in the FA Cup this season who have put out a reserve team en bloc," he added.
"I saw a game not so long ago when I didn't know a player in the whole team. I'm not doing that. I'm going to play everyone who is fit."
The problem is how many players are out.
With Cesar Sanchez moving to Valencia and Heurelho Gomes injured, Ben Alnwick will be in goal and 16-year-old Mirko Ranieri will be on the bench - having stayed behind while the youth team travel for a tournament in Mexico.
In defence, Rocha will start - and Dorian Dervite is in the squad, while midfielder Giovani will get his first start since the arrival of Redknapp as boss.
"People keep telling me they are good players, so let's see how good they are," said Redknapp.
"They say Giovani is a real talent. Let's put him on the big stage at Old Trafford and see what he can do. He could be a real plus for us. He cost £5m, so should be a good player."
Redknapp got a glimpse of Taarabt at Burnley during the defeat at Turf Moor that saw Spurs sneak into the Carling Cup final.
"Taarabt came on against Burnley and was fantastic - he helped turn the game with his ability to run at people and beat them," the manager enthused.
That match saw Redknapp tear into his players, accusing them of sulking after his attempts to bolster his squad and increase competition for players.
"I'm not upset with the players," he said.
"They've done fantastic for me. I've lost one home game, and we've had a lot of matches. Our record's been excellent - and it's due to the players.
"We just don't have enough cover, and not enough thought was put into how the squad was put together."
With his injury concerns, getting a result against Sir Alex Ferguson's men will rank as an upset - although not on the scale of Redknapp's famous win with Bournemouth over United.
"No one wants to go anywhere and get beaten badly - nothing hurts you more," he said.
"It doesn't matter who you are."
Spurs and United could have agreed to play extra-time to try to force a result if the scores were level after 90 minutes of the tie - but they needed to inform the Football Association within a week of the draw.
Redknapp would have been reluctant in any case.
"I didn't know that," he said.
"I wouldn't want to try to change the traditions of the FA Cup. It's something I've always looked forward to and had a go at - I won it last season."

Shouldn't matter anyway, they're still crippled by injuries...

Heurelho Gomes, Vedran Corluka, Ledley King, Jermaine Jenas, Jamie O'Hara, Aaron Lennon and Darren Bent all injured for the game.

Michael Dawson, Jonathan Woodgate and Luka Modric are also all doubtful.

...and bottom of the league.

i would rather have nev in right back instead of fletcher. we can then put o'shea in center back and fabio can start.

-----------PIG------------
Nev - Vidic - O Shea - Fabio

Nani - Fletcher - Scholes - Park

---Berba - Tevez--------

4-0 win

If any of the reports are true Spurs are seriously fecked at the back. No Dawson, no Woodgate, no King, no Hutton, no Corluka.. just Bale, Gunter, Rocha and maybe Zokora/Huddlestone. Their midfield could be quite good to be fair, but I'd be amazed if we didn't get lots of scoring opportunities against this utter shite defence.

SAF's confirmed on the United website that his back 4 will be:

Fletcher ------ Neville ------- Vidic ------ OShea

Defensive subs will include: Fabio & Eckersley

With Fabio in the squad, we have already won.

For UK: The game will be on ITV1, programme starting @ 5pm

fergie said he could play fletcher at rb, nev and vidic at cb and o'shea at lb but he has called in eckersley ad fabio who could be involved.

The starting back 4 could be even weaker than you think. It could well be:

Gunter - Dervite - Rocha - Gilberto.

That's not to mention Alnwick in goal and a 16 year old kid (Mirko Ranieri) as sub GK.

On the plus side, with the players available to Spurs for this match it will be hugely embarassing for you lot if you don't win ;)

Is Button injured?

feck me

we better outscore spurs because we sure cant rely on that defense.

Fletcher did fine at Right Back a few years ago, and he's improved massively since then. Neville isn't too bad at centre half either. Sure, it's not our strongest team by a long shot - but it's not THAT bad.

Saying that, I'd prefer this line up:

- - - - van der Sar

Neville - O'Shea - Vidic - Giggs

Fletcher - Scholes - Carrick

Ronaldo - Berbatov - Tevez

Bench:
Foster
Tosic
Gibson
Chester
Welbeck
Possebon
Fabio

Not a bad team that one. Giggs can do a job at left back, he's done it before and done it well enough.

Not to mention his defensive efforts against Chelsea. My only worry is can we play Giggs so soon after a midweek fixture? Sure, Bentley shouldn't be too hard for Giggsy to defend against, but would his body be able to hold out for most of the match?

Given my concerns over Giggs' physical ability, I'd rather give either Fabio or Eckersley a chance.

He only played 55 minutes against Derby, he should be fine I think. He wouldn't probably last the whole match, but I'd hope we'd bang a few in and he'd be able to be taken off for Fabio or someone.

--------------- Van der Sar --------------
Neville ----- Vidić ----- O'Shea ----- Fábio
------ Carrick ------------ Scholes -------
Ronaldo ---------------------------- Tošić
-------------- Tévez ---------------------
------------------- Berbatov -------------

Subs: Kuszczak; Chester; Fletcher, Gibson, Possebon, Giggs; Welbeck.

Pretty ridiculous with our injuries, but we can still feild a decent looking side and bench; even if we'd have to risk players with a lack of experience. I personally think it's worth the risk to play both Fábio and Tošić; as Tottenham themselves are suffering a little with injuries, especially at the back which we can hopefully exploit with our attacking players. However, I can see Fergie adopting the similar mind-set of 'it's one or the other' that he employed at first slightly with Rafael and Park. Unless he's really confident in both, I reckon it could be the difference between John O'Shea or Gary Neville playing Centreback or Left and Right Back respectively. If Fábio plays, I'd expect Giggs to start on the Left Wing and O'Shea in the centre of defence; with Neville at Right Back. If Tošić starts, I'd expect to see O'Shea at Left Back and Fletcher at Right Back. But yeh, I'd like to see both play from the off, rather than be used as potential game changers late on.

Wes Brown returning could be a nice surprise, and even with his expected lack of fitness, I'd see this as an almost perfect game to throw him back into (at Right Back). But maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic in hoping for that.

Hopefully we can bury this game in the first half with so many attacking players on show (and not drop off and concede silly late goals like we have done so often after racing to 4~ goals!!).

Ronaldo, Tévez and Berbatov to score.

Redknapp has been our black cat in the FA Cup before. I hope it doesn't happen again tomorrow.

If Taarabt and Modric play...they could rip us apart.

Modric is my favourite player outside United, and Taarabt has unbelievable talent.

I agree, also some of their players will have a point to prove to Harry so the United players will have to be really up for this one.
