Triple United boost for Latics

Manchester United, 14:02, December 29, 2009
Man Utd expect Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Anderson to be available to face Wigan at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
United's Premier League title defence has been derailed by injuries during the first half of the season but boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects a boost over the coming weeks.

The Scot confirmed: "Gary Neville is now available for tomorrow night, we're still hoping to have (Jonny) Evans and (Rio) Ferdinand back soon.

"(John) O'Shea may be a bit longer. Paul Scholes missed the game on Sunday, he got a kick in the hip in training so he missed the game but he should be available for tomorrow.

"Anderson will be available. Nani, of the forwards, is not available, he's still injured.

"So we're getting a bit better shape-wise in terms of the composition of the squad in an important time of the year that is vital to us."

I have a feeling Nani's "injury" will subside in time for the January transfer window. He'll have to pass a medical after all.

I did think Park may be kept for the Brum game and possibly even Fletch. Then again Fergie might give Valencia a rest as he's looked a bit jaded last couple of games. Their energy will be needed against a physical Brum side. I think Fergie will be keen to get Gary Nev back and match fit and this is a game to suit him right now.

We need Fletch in there. Rest players for our upcoming cup games if need be but we need to have a full squad.

We need to get some momentum going..

We need to get some momentum going..

Agreed. But that's tough to get unless we have a steady side out, and with the amount of matches around this period, and players returning from injury, I imagine there'll be quite a bit of chopping and changing between the players played.

We do need to push on, to stop the gap at the top widening and hopefully pull it back. We haven't the toughest run of league fixtures coming up though, which should help us over the next month or so. A win tonight is vital though, both because we need to keep the gap at just two points, and also because we need to win these sorts of games if we're going to be a title-winning side.

Fairly confident about this one though. We've a great record against Wigan. :D

Vidic vs Rodallega tonight. Those two have history, Vidic is on 4 bookings - look for him to get booked tonight so that the yellow cards get removed in the New Year.

I hope we can put 6 or 7 past them, they are a bad side.

Bit ambitious that mate. We don't tend to push on and hammer teams once we get 3 or 4 anyway. I wish we still did, but just not the way we play, and besides, Wigan are unlikely to be a total rollover. Their collapse against Spurs was a bit more dramatic than can generally be expected from them (though we did put 5 past them at the JJB).

Wouldn't say no to 6 or 7, mind! :D

Disappointed to be missing this, bloody impossible to swap a night shift at this time of year! Least my ticket has sold.

It would be nice to finish the decade with something comprehensive and go into the new one with a spring in our step.

If Fergie picks a similar side from the weekend then we've a decent chance of putting at least 4 past them.

I'll be disappointed to see Gibson or Owen make a start. We need to start having more consistency in our line-ups because there's no doubt the constant chopping and changing is affecting us.

We've good enough players to put 4 past them, I'm not disputing that, but it's rare we keep on pushing after getting 4 nowadays. We usually just pass it around the park and keep-ball when we get to that kind of score; unless it's like 4-3 or something.

Yeah we do need more consistency in the line-up, and the return of some of our usual defence will probably help that. Like I said, I'd like to see Owen play some part today, but would rather Rooney and Berba started.

This may be a lousy attempt to shield some Berba criticism...

But in terms of just goals, he has been poor, but is this because Fergie plays the likes of Owen in games against weaker opposition...

Bring on the fecking game, having a really slow day and I can't wait.

We better improve over our Villa and Wolves performances at OT, its bloody freezing outside and I don't fancy sitting through another one of those performances. Reckon it will be 2-0. I'd quite like to see Owen start.

Fabio to be replaced by Neville at some point. Rafael just came back from a lay off, so can't see him starting at hull and today.

Score: 3-1

I'd take Valencia benched the whole game. Have Hunt on my fantasy team and he scored a nice brace so I wouldn't mind him getting the ole' bump up!!!! Unless Valencia wants to out do him with a hattrick....

Park will start at least - he deserves it after his performance and it will be good to have his mentality up there again. If started, I'll wager a goal!

A lot think Park will start, same with Valencia. Scholes missed the game the other day so he is expected to play. That leaves Anderson/Carrick/Fletcher. The other 3 midfielders aren't the most created so Carrick (or Anderson) is more likely than Fletcher.

Against Wigan at home, we aren't as reliant on a Fletcher type of player. That's my take on it.

I see your point but these days I think we always need an injection of Fletch's zip and enthusiasm to keep certain players motivated and on the ball.....sad but true, so I'd play him till we are at least 2 0 up and then rest him for Brum!
