Basically the only time I've ever been bored enough with a game that I've resorted to reading the match day thread...
Phew! So nice to be through after we made hard work of it, again. No matter the competition we just haven't been convincing in Europe this year.

Another Basel like performance. The players seem to think they will automatically win just because they are United.
Shit performance. Their first was an unlucky one to concede but DDG kept us in it.

JesusConstantly getting overplayed in midfield. Eriksen going off for Ajax and Scholes coming on certainly helped but again, poor defensive work cost us a goal. Typical for this season really.

Ajax were probably nervous in the 1st leg and came into this one with no pressure at all. That confidence gave them control of the game. Doesn't matter if we had started different players, they had a man up on us in midfield and took perfectly advantage. If they were a better team they would have created more as well.

I'm not calling for anyones head nor saying we need to sign half the players in the world.
I'm saying our attitude was all wrong, we have been poor in Europe this season and we seem to be quite OK with not winning (let alone losing) at home.

It's not all bad. We played a lot of youngsters tonight and they know they didn't put in a very good performance, they will learn from it. Anyone who expects these kids to be world beaters is a spacker.

We had a very young back 4 and a keeper who is still bedding in, a CM who doesn't have a lot of experience and a LM both fresh back from injury in a big (for them as youngsters) European tie. They were complacent and they know it. They will learn from it and it's all shaping the team of tomorrow. No big deal. We got the job done. Next.

But for controlling the midfield it has to be Carrick with Scholes or Cleverley.
And Rooney was magnificent in the last game.
But tbf we had a couple of players coming back....

The average age of our first 11 was 24... The oldest players on the pitch were Park, Young and Berbatov. What do you expect? It seems as though the fans expect us to win because we're Manchester United, regardless of the team we put out more than the players think that.
