Manchester United vs Arsenal

i'd go with:
-----------Foster----------
--O'Shea-Vidic-Evans-Evra--
Valencia-Fletcher-Ando-Nani
---------Rooney-----------
-------------Berbasex------

i have a good feeling about this, 2-0 Rooney and Nani

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas set to miss Manchester United clash with hamstring injury

Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of captain Cesc Fabregas after it emerged he is a serious doubt to face Manchester United next Saturday with a hamstring injury.

Fabregas was replaced at half-time during the 4-1 Emirates win over Portsmouth at the weekend and the Barcelona target could now face up to three weeks out.

The Spaniard faces a fitness test today (Monday) to assess the extent of the problem but manager Arsene Wenger admits he will almost certainly miss Wednesday Champions League play-off second leg tie at home to Celtic.

'Cesc has a hamstring problem. He will be short for Wednesday certainly,' said Wenger.

'If it's a little pull he'll be out for three weeks. If it's just a tightness maybe he can get away for the Celtic game but after 48 hours we'll have a better view.'

Fabregas has been in imperious form so far this season, particularly during his two-goal performance in the opening day 6-1 thrashing of Everton.

But even before the Gunners 2-0 first leg win at Parkhead the midfielder had been doubt to start due to a reported hamstring complaint and this time it looks like he could now be sidelined throughout most of September.

Untill it is 100% best to expect that fabregas will start.

All the reports seem to be pointing towards no Cesc appearance against Celtic, but he should be fit for Saturday. Either way, I think we are capable of putting a midfield combination together that can dominate them. Fabregas has been in the Arsenal team at OT many times and been overshadowed by our boys.

I don't want to do them a disservice, but they have had an easier than expected opening in all honesty - no one could have predicted that Everton would be such and shambles and Pompey are probably the worst team in the PL at the moment. Not to take anything away from them, they have put sides to the sword and played some good stuff - I just think that we specialise in bringing teams back down to earth with a bump. Everton, Pompey and Celtic to Manchester United is a big step up.

I think we'll do them.

Valencia
Fletcher
Anderson
Scholes
Nani

Rooney

I'd rather we keep it tight in midfield, put a check on their fullbacks and wingers and Valencia, Nani, and Anderson to support Rooney as best as possible.

That's what I've like to see as well........away at Arsenal, not at home.

Code:
                   Foster
Brown Vidic Evans Evra

Valencia Fletcher Giggs/Scholes Nani

          Berba Rooney

Fletcher to give us the drive in midfield, Brown and Evra fullbacks and Valencia/ Nani on the wings, with Valencia given more defensive role.

Here is what I would play, attack these son bitches.

Foster
Fabio Brown Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Giggs Nani
Berbatov Rooney

Scholes
Carrick
Park
Oshea
Ando

Great balance and great attacking options. Hell of a bench too. We can do this!

You only have 5 named for the bench, you have two more spots.

As much as I love the 4-4-2 formation I've decided that this is the team I want against Arsenal:

-----------Foster-------------
O'shea--Vidic-Evans--Evra
-------Fletcher-Carrick-----
Valencia-Giggs----Nani----
---------Rooney-----------

---------------Foster----------------

O'Shea-----Vidic-------Evans----Evra

Valencia---Carrick-----Fletcher---Nani

-----------Rooney---Berbatov

O'Shea-----Vidic-------Evans----Evra

-----------Rooney---Berbatov

thats what id like to see if carricks form was better but that worries me slightly. Giggs instead maybe, and scholes was good on sat. Also are the arse not lining up 4-3-3 atm? If so i can see us matching them.

Very decent team, an easy win imho... provided we keep on attacking...

I think the 4-3-3 will match up nicely against that proposed side.

My main concern would be defending down the right, as you'll have Nani and Evra running at Sagna all game. Though I expect Bendtner to start, and he's been back-tracking, harrassing and excerting himself really well so far.

I'd also like to see Arshavin and Clichy pit themselves against Valencia and Oshea. I doubt van Persie will be physical enough to beat Vidic (and Evans), but if he can hold the ball up and release midfielders/the wide forwards (like he has been the so far) with his excellent through-balls then we'll be looking good.

That's the team I'd pick if Evans was fit. Apparently he hasn't trained all week though and is a major doubt.

That could leave us with a seriously cobbled together back four. Wes has been out for ages and was terrible against Burnley, so I would be nervous about starting him in the centre. If O'Shea partners Vidic then it's between Wes and Nev for the right-back slot (I would go with Neville, who looked solid at Wigan)

Because our back four is so makeshift, I would go with three in midfield. Fletcher and Carrick sitting deep, protecting our back four, with Giggs ahead of them. This means a front three of Berbatov in the centre, Rooney on the left and Valencia or Nani on the right (I'd go with Valencia because he's a more intelligent defender - see previous comments about our makeshift back four) I know none of us want to see Rooney wide left but I don't think it's an option that should be consigned to the scrap heap of history. He's already excelled in that position - against Arsenal, as it happens - and he can still expect to play in his preferred position in the vast majority of games this season.

Defensive worries aside, I also think this team/formation is a better match for the side that Arsenal are likely to put out. Shame it's not gonna happen :(

I'd say if we're going to play a more attacking mentality we'd put Giggs in the center which I doubt is a must. I'm pretty sure SAF was saving him for this match. We might play a 4-3-3 with Rooney leading the line. I'm sure if it comes to that it'll be Carrick Vs Anderson for the other spot.
So I'd say our team will be.
Foster

Evans if fit/ O'shea/ Brown
O'shea if Evans is fit/ Fabio if Sheasy plays cb

Nice overview.

We have playing well with 442 when we have wide players such as nani and valencia so lets stick to that

I'm expecting us to completely piano Arsenal on Saturday.

4-0
Rooney ('31, '56)
Denilson og ('78)
O'Shea ('79)

As you can see, i think that there will be a tense start, with neither team willing to risk going forward too much. Then, in the 31st, an excellent through-ball from Fletcher will leave Rooney with no-one but the keeper to beat. Gentle dink over an oncoming Almunia. One nil.

Realising that they've not got what it takes to win the Championship, Arsenal go into panic mode, the whole game is turned in United's favour. Early in the second half another piece of magic from Rooney sees the ball dropping sweetly onto Nani's left for a volley. Nani rifles the ball onto the crossbar, straight back into the rushing head of our Wayne. Two nil.

Seventy-eight minutes and Almunia fumbles a corner from Nani into the path of Valencia, six yards out. A last ditch sliding challenge from behind from Denilson serves only to put the ball into the Arsenal goal for a third time. Three nil.

Straight from kick-off Rooney takes The Gunners by surprise by floating a beautifully weighted ball into the run of John O'Shea down the right. A move that has clearly been practiced on the training field has left an in-fighting Arsenal team for dead. Sheasy deftly dribbles the ball passed Almunia before trapping it on the goal-line and getting down on the floor to head it in. 4-0.

Gallas is in tears on the halfway line and Wenger chokes to death on his pizza.

United go on to win the Quad. The End.

 never heard of that one before.

But I think its going to be a bit of a sticky fixture, maybe a draw will be a good result.

Only joking, we're goin' to feckin hammer the bastards 10-0.

Really don't see why Owen and Rooney would start. I would personally prefer wither Rooney and Berbatov, or Berbatov and Owen

I think Ferguson knows Arsenal will probably dominate possession, and therefore we'll need to make good use of the chances that fall to us. That's why I think Owen could be useful. And I can't see Rooney not starting.

But then again, what do I know. We'll just have to wait and see.

If Arsenal dominate possession then there's more need for a player like Berbatov who will keep the ball, especially in areas of the field that we can cause more damage.

Why before every Arsenal match at OT do people claim that Arsenal will hold more of the ball... its almost never the case.

FAO Pillory: According to Sky we had 53% possession, though that was without any real pass-master in midfield (Cesc). If he had been playing, or Ramsay even (from the start), I'd have expected that to be a fair bit higher.

I hope we batter the cnuts, absolutely feckin batter them.

Love the anger off the back of Eduardo's idiocy.

Goes back a lot longer than that my friend. It goes back longer than Fabregas, Keown, Vieira, that pussy Reyes, Lehmann all the way back to Alan Sunderland for me :)

Should be a good game, we have to take all 3 points of you because you don't look like you'll drop many this season.

Everything, for me, will depend on whether or not Fabregas gets up.
