Manchester United vs. Arsenal

De Gea
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Anderson Carrick Cleverley
Valencia RVP Rooney

Free role for Roo. He can go wide if he wants, or stay in the hole and let Cleverley provide the width.

Possibly Nani over Valencia. I know Fergie will never do it, but Nani showed flashes of what he can do against Chelsea, and if there's any team that will bring him back into form, it's Arsenal. I've lost count of how many times he's violated them.

Not Scholes. He'll break Cazorla's legs and get a red.

:nono: He's never been close to breaking anybody's legs, but a robust mistimed tackle is pretty much assured...

I think we will go 4-3-3 with Tony providing width down the left and Young down the right, RVP through the middle. Roo dropped deaper like against the Chavs with Carrick and Scholsey holding.

I would have liked a carrick, Clev Ando 3 in the middle with a front 3 of Roo, RVP and Chicho and gone with the diamond, possibly Tony in for Chicho here to provide width down one side.

Rafael--------Rio------Evans------Evra

---Cleverley----Carrick---Anderson----

--Nani-----------RVP--------Rooney----

Don't think that's going to happen, but I'd love to see that. Welbeck instead of Nani would be another option. Or Fletch instead of Clev. He really impressed me yesterday.

DDG

Smalling Rio Evans Evra

Valencia Carrick Scholes Young

RVP Rooney

Think we'll see this. Except Rafael for Smalling. We can probably get away with that midfield two against this Arsenal side at home. Rooney can drop deep if needed. There's no need for us to adapt our system against them anymore, they're the ones who should be scared.

De Gea
Rafael Evans Rio Evra
Carrick Scholes
Valencia Rooney Young
Van Persie

That's what I would go for personally. I think Fergie might stick Cleverley in there in place of Scholes though. Hopefully Smalling can get some minutes near the end as well.
That's what I'd expect.

Mannone
Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Vermaelen
Arteta Wilshere
Walcott Cazorla Podolski
Giroud

Ramsey to replace Jack after 60 (possibly might start in place of Theo). Szczesny will be in if he's fit.

I'd like to see

DDG
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Scholes Carrick
Cleverley
RVP Rooney Welbeck

but Valencia and Young will probably start, even though neither really deserve to.

EDIT: Also wouldn't mind Rooney dropping in to Cleverley's position and Hernandez playing too, given Cleverley's performance v Chelsea.

RVP will either be brilliant, utter shite, or somewhere in between. I'd bet my dinner on it.

Pretty sure he's out for a month. Twisted knee or something.

Ugh, didn't know that, I was hoping to see him get a run in the side.

Fletch has the potential to be far better than Carrick in a defensive role, all a question of how much of his past conditioning and form he can recover. Doing well so far.

For me Carrick can be intimidated by the opposition far too easily, they jsut waltz through our midfield.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Nani started instead of Young. Neither provide ideal cover for Evra mind you, who will no doubt be targeted.

Carrick has very good positional awareness in that role, Fletcher is only playing it now as I think it's the smart way for him to adapt his game as his illness probably means he can't be bombing all over the place like he used to.

Well against Arsenal intimidation shouldn't be an issue as that isn't the type of CM they have and Fletcher can't play back to back games I imagine.

I'd be surprised, I think Young is certain to start unless Danny gets the nod but his performance last night makes think that is unlikely.

I agree, and I reckon we'll either win, lose, or somewhere in between.

But yeah, de Gea, Ferdinand, Evans, and Evra will join Rafael for our back five. Carrick I'm sure will come back in, along with Rooney and van Persie. I'm fancying both Scholes and Cleverley to start even though we're at home and Valencia will probably get picked to start again against what might currently be Arsenal's weakest position (left back).

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Scholes
Cleverley
Valencia van Persie Rooney

De Gea

Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra

Carrick
Cleverley Anderson(Scholes)
Valencia Young(Welbeck)
Rooney
Van Persie

Should be too much for Arsenal game at home.

EDIT: Depending on Anderson and Young's fitness.

Yup, we'll definitely beat them with 12 men.

Really looking forward to this one!

I'm going for 6-2 United. It will be an end to end game

Hernandez-RVP-Valencia(nani)

Cleverley-Rooney(anderson)

Would like to see something like this, rooney can be played as a striker with scholes in there but would rather bring him on later. Dont see nani and anderson started as much as I would like them both to.

Really need to get Rafael & Valencia in against their full back.

Mike Dean the official.

Arsenal have won 1 of the last 15 games which he has refereed, a worse record than under any other official.

9 penalties have been awarded in this fixture in the PL era, all of which were given at Old Trafford - 7 United's way.

Incidentally, Arsenal have also been atrocious in this fixture over the last few years. Let's put that right.

Can't really think of any of the penalties that weren't penalties though. The last contentious one was probably Rooney in 2004.

They were mostly correct, I wasn't trying to make anything of it.

As long as RVP doesn't score, I'll be able to take some consolation after the weekend.

United rarely lose on the opening day of the season or to Spurs, or win at Stamford Bridge. It's been one of those seasons so far.. anything can happen.

You're hitting some kind of form at the wrong time for us. I just want us to keep it incredibly tight/boring for as long as possible, and the game being at 12.45 might help us with that.

Still it is two more penalties than the myth would have you believe.

Rafael vs Podolski will end up as fight probably.

Don't think the team is in that much better form than a few weeks ago. It's just that we have started playing Rooney and RvP together.

Still anything can happen.

Both sides conceded 5 goals in their last game. Madness.

We get more penalties because of Arsenal's thuggish and overly-physical style of play.
