Manchester United vs Bayern Munich

Let's not all get carried away with the importance and competitiveness of this match. It's a friendly as part of the pre season training programme. There will likely be up to 6 substitutions by each team. If we win or lose is not really of huge importance. Just seeing signs that the team is gelling again and that the new signings and youngsters we are seeing for the first time are looking as though they are fitting in nicely will be enough for me. I'll take some pics tonight and if they're any good will post some tomorrow.

Yes, it's pre-season but as you can tell from the way the Boca game was played, it's still a competitive fixture, and one against a top European side, which means that it will be a hard-fought fixture, and we'll almost certainly start with (or at some point feature) all our best players.

Signs already indicate that the new signings are fitting in, due to the way Valencia and Owen are both fitting without trouble into the flowing, passing style we've been playing this pre-season; especially Valencia, whose first time balls have really impressed me. Not so sure we'll see many youngsters in this one, but it'll obviously be a good experience for them if we do, and with Bayern being at home, it'll probably provide some idea of what European Aways are like (though the context is different, of course).

It'll be interesting to see if we start with the Owen-Rooney pairing this game. Yes, they have more experience of playing together than Owen with other strikers we have, but they've not played together in front of our own midfield, which functions quite differently to that of the National side. I'm excited for this one though, should be a cracking match against another top side.

Right, I am off to the game now. Have to suffer the dead rubber first though........:(

anderson to score 2 goals tonight

Confirmed Lineup:

Van der Sar
Fletcher Ferdinand Evans Evra
Nani Gibson Scholes Giggs
Berbatov Owen

Could be Gibson right, Nani left and the oldies in the middle, or that above. Fletcher is at RB.

after the fiasco before the game yesterday christ knows what kind of displays the germans will have in store for us before the game tonight, bored the tits off me that did!

With Anderson not started, who will score score the goals?

Gibson is probably on the right, Giggsy hardly plays out wide nowadays.

Pretty solid lineup nevertheless, interesting ot see SAF testing Fletcher at rightback again. Owen-Berbatov

Cant really be too surprised by the team selection. Most of our players will not be involved in 2 games in 2 days. Thats just unrealistic. Still we have all the quality we need on the pitch to win this game.

Bayern have the home advantage and we will need to be strong against adversity to win this.

He had no choice at RB as with the injuries to Vidic and Brown and an obvious reluctance to play Fabio or JoS for two games in a row. Also a good chance to play Gibson in a more competitive game.

Funny how, with four right backs, we always find ourselves with a mini crisis there :)

agreed. Brown, Neville, JOS, Rafael and Fabio.

i would play JOS there myself, im sure the man can handle playing twice in two days, its only a one off.

Bench?.....Everybody else?

Odd to think that Fergie started Brown, O'Shea and Fabio last night if he didn't want anybody playing 2 games in a row.

Hope Gibson isn't playing wide today, although he's starting to adjust to the position, I can't see him really threatening against better opposition there.

I'm streaming the game, it's MUTV coverage 650k stream.

PM me if you want the details.

Could be that Fergie wants to test Fletcher at right back against proper opposition in case he's forced to play there during the season if the right back curse strikes again. Or it might just be a case of giving Fletcher, Gibson and Scholes more match practice without having to force them all into midfield.

Probably a case of not wanting either Fabio or O'Shea to play much of the game having played yesterday - and having no other real option at right back.
