Manchester United vs Bayern Munich

All a bit uninspiring at the moment.
As Andy Gray would say - a goal would help, but I doubt even that's true.

When he's in the final third, he's been very skillful and good, when he's around the middle, he slows the game down, thinks about what to do and often loses the ball. He needs to learn to not stop the pace and how to play it quickly.
But he and Evra on the left have potential.

Our central midfield has been weak though. Fletcher is not a RB and Gibson not a winger.

pretty shit half. im expecting us to be better in the second - we should be able to manage bringing JOS on for 45 minutes at least, and that can potentially free up fletcher to give us some much needed energy in the midfield - he can replace scholes or gibson. Owen hasnt had many chances, but hasnt seemed that effective, i would simply bring on Valencia/Park/Tosic for Owen, put Giggs as second striker with Fletcher/Gibson in the middle, Nani on one wing, Park/Tosic/Valencia on the other. JOS at RB will solve a few of our defensive problems too.

Midfield has been the main problem. I dont care what everyone says, it is by far the weakest area of our squad.

Nani has done well, especially defensively.
Gibson is still not a winger.
Scholes is missing his scope.
 
Gibson, like Fletcher before him, will never play as well on the right. Nani has done well, good to see.
 
Second half we need to step it up. We have played containment football and allowed Bayern Munich to dominate possession. The attack has been very quiet from us but we will need to be more adventurous if we want to win this game. Bayern will score eventually if we allow them to keep the initiative.

Defensive unit done well, Nani and Evra have provided the only spark upfront. Berbatov momment of magic was unlucky.

Scholes/Giggs does not work in the centre.
 
Nani's final ball still needs working on. Why doesn't he whip it in with pace? Same thing with his corners. He just lob it in/ stand it up. It gives the defenders and goalkeepers time to deal with it and our attackers will need to generate their own force to attack the ball instead. He seems content with his tricks and beating his man. Someone needs to tell him it counts for nought unless someone puts it in the net.
 
The right hand side is bad. It's all too negative and twice we've been wide open on fletchers side 2 or 3 times. I think we know gibson isn't a winger. He isn't positve enough to have any impact and we're just limiting ourselves.

I'm not sure fletchers made a forward pass all night. Changes needed to win this one or even to change the flow of the game.

Gibson has looked like he's totaly forgotten he's playing on the right at times. He keeps drifting inside.
 
Gibson is not good enough (seems to be involved whenever something goes wrong) and Fletcher is played out of position...(caught napping a few times with dangerous through balls) Ferdinand is up to his usual high standards... Evra is energetic as always but hasnt created anything other than a corner... Nani beat his marker a few times but failed to deliver a good cross.. Owen has been largely invisible , BerbaCool is just being himself with some nice touches and one semi-spectacular attempt at goal.... Giggs and Scholes seem to be overrun in midfield... in general Bayern are marking our players tightly, passing is either to short or to long to be effective or dangerous...That about sums it all up....

You do know Gibson is a central midfielder, right? He is playing out of position on the wing, just like Fletcher is at RB.
 
We are playing at our CL away game mode. Contain and hit at the break. Problem is there isn't any speed to our attack. Either in losing the ball quickly or lacking in the speed of passing and of movement.

Very frustrating to see the ball keep coming back at us almost instantaneously whenever we regain it. Front 3 is not on the same wavelength with each other and with the midfield 3.

Gibson is completely anonymous. You'd think as the younger player looking to impress, he'd show more energy, vigour and enthusiasm in his game but he is giving the ball away, getting into poor positions and most criminally - just being a pedestrian and passenger in the game.
 
From the first half i have deduced.

Fletcher should not play right back, caught out of position on many occasions.
Gibson can't play right wing very well, no surprise there.
Giggs and Scholes in the middle isn't the most dynamic of pairings.
Nani is looking good.
Rio is ridiculously good at this defending lark.
Owen doesn't do much without service (no shit)
