Smalling always gets beaten with the "atrocious passing" stick more than any other of our CBs, yet Bailly's distribution is shocking, but rarely mentioned. The weight on his passes is just mental.

Classic case of assuming good passing percentage = good passing.

Smalling has an excellent passing percentage because he refuses to do anything other than pass the ball behind/straight at his teammate. It's just that he kills any sort of momentum that we could gain in possession by passing it behind the player, or even worse, burst forward as if he's going to go through the entire midfield, only to turn back around and pass it behind the player next to him. I'd rather see Bailly take a few more risks (obviously not brainfarts like the one he produced a while ago) and be a bit more proactive in possession.

I know what you mean but can we expect that of such a young midfielder? I'm satisfied with what he's produced, particularly in the second half where he's been able to get forward a bit more.
