Manchester United vs Blackburn Rovers

The following are certain starters: Foster, O'Shea, Tevez, Anderson, Nani and Evans.

I'd like to see Manucho or Welbeck, and Possebon. I'd also like to see us try to win this, so I wouldn't mind if the rest of the team is as strong as possible.

im hoping for:
-------------Foster
---Rafael-Evans-Vidic-O'shea---
Welbeck-Possebon-Anderson-Nani
---------Tevez----------------
---------------Manucho--------

If we're not quite up for it and Blackburn decide to make it physcial like they did in Hughes' first season, i'd be somewhat concerned about that midfield. Possibly just need to make a choice between one of Manucho or Welbeck.

Of course if that line-up's on song Rovers could alternatively be chasing shadows.

Giggs will probably get some time here, he hasn't started a game in ages, and his brittle old bones will raise the average age so the press doesn't go all Arsenal on us if we win spectacularly.

Yep. Possebon, Anderson and Giggs in a three man midfield, with Nani, Tevez and another one as the front three? I'd be very happy with that.

This please.

Manucho to come on later.

2-1

Tevez, Possebon

i just realized how much i want us to win this game

gives us 2 more matches in jan .. hopefully fabio will be fit and we might see tosic play..

and now i dont feel so confident .

surely blackburn will put out a reserve squad after playing the game on sunday

I'd be tempted to try out a 4-3-3 to test out the attacking mentality of our youngsters, to see if they can hold it up for a full 90 minutes against a decent side (that is, if Blackburn sends out a good team).

Subs: Amos, Neville, Carrick, Anderson, Park, Nani, Rooney

Oh, Blackburn will definitely go at this with their strongest possible squad, I'm sure of it. Their league form has been very poor by their standards, in a relegation battle right now, so this is their best chance of getting into Europe. They'll be out to win, and I can see Ince trying a slightly more attackign line-up than usual, even though they're coming to the Theatre of Dreams.

Van der Sar will obviously be rested, but I'm unsure which keeper will get chosen. I'm leaning more towards Foster at the moment, since I think Fergie will just keep on alternating our reserve goalkeepers (different one after each game VDS doesn't play in) so they can both gain more experience and he can get a good luck at both of them.

I think Ferdinand is more likely to get rested than Vidic for this game, and it'll have to be Evans who fills that role. He's looked very comfertable in every game I've seen him play in so far, so I wouldn't be worried. I'd prefer Rafael to start at right back, with O'Shea at left back for what's still a pretty decent back four. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Fergie just goes for the full strength defence so make us more solid. Evra might play most of the game as well, since he'll get a rest the game after next (Tottenham, he'll play against Sunderland), but Fergie may also rest Evra for this game and just play him against Sunderland (I probably would).

-------------- Foster --------------
Rafael --- Evans --- Vidic --- O'Shea

Nani will start on one of the wings, but I'm unsure what Fergie will do on the other side. Park is playing well, but I'd honestly rather rest him for this one. I'd rather see Welbeck playing up-front than on the wing, but if Fergie doesn't want to let Giggs play in his old position, or play Park or Anderson down the flanks, he may have to play out wide. In the middle, Fletcher may be played since he's still coming back from injury and will want more game time, while Anderson and Possebon should get a chance to play the majority of the game. I'd like to see more of Possebon, but maybe Anderson should play about 60-70 minutes and bring Possebon on later...

Nani --- Fletcher --- Possebon --- Giggs

I'm hoping Fergie doesn't go 433 / 451 really, Tévez needs to start (and finish) this game. Welbeck or Manucho should partener him, though Fergie could also go with Giggs, but I wouldn't like that idea.

--------- Tévez ------ Welbeck ---------

We'll have a very strong bench, with the likes of Rooney, Park, Carrick, Ferdinand, Berbatov, Neville (?), and more as options if the game isn't going our way.

I hope we win this trophy again, should probably be the favourites now. Let's hope Burnley can do some more giant killing, then it's ours hopefully.

If only Ronaldo wasnt suspended!

0-1

Rafael own goal.

i know ronnie is suspended for this, even though i doubt he would of played. is it just a 1 game ban

I think we will win this. We already beat Boro with a young team and I think we'll brush Blackburn aside too.

Fergie will play a fairly balanced side, personally I'd go with something like this:

Foster
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - O'Shea
Nani - Possebon - Giggs - Anderson
Tevez - Welbeck

I know Anderson isn't really a winger, but we lack wingers and Park lately completed a full game at Eastlands while Ronaldo is suspended. The black Pele should get some minutes as well... just wonder what Fabio is doing, I haven't heard news on him for ages.

Change of plan, let's throw our best XI out there and make sure we give Blackburn a hiding. Cant let this trophy slip away now that all the big boys are out.

Foster

Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Fletcher
Ronaldo

Tevez
Rooney

:)

if we win this game we should win the trophy. over two legs we'll beat anybody and worst case scenario is spurs in the final then, who we should beat as its a final regardless of cup. hopefully no errors tomorrow and this team should do it:

Foster
Rafael
Vidic
Evans
O'Shea

Nani
Anderson
Possebon
Giggs

Tevez
Rooney

---------Foster----------

Rafael - Vida - Evans - O Shea

Park - Ando - Possebon - Nani

------Tevez ----- Rooney----

No way we will do that, except for Vidic and Tevez i probably wouldn't expect anyone else starting tommorow from that line-up.

SAF should really give the young lads a chance to shine and prove themselves in this competition. I know the prospect of winning this cup is now better with the other big guns out such that fielding in the more experienced players might be more logical and safe, but giving the youngsters like Rafael, Anderson, Nani, Welbeck the responsibility of carrying the team on their back and winning this competition for the club can only help in their progress to become regular first-team players. Plus, it's more rewarding to win it with our younger batch of stars.

Scholes back according to cuntis.......I know....believe it or not....

By NEIL CUSTIS
Published: Today

PAUL SCHOLES will return for Manchester United tonight after two months out with a knee injury.

The former England midfielder, 34, has been training flat out for two weeks and is ready to start against Blackburn in the Carling Cup.

Boss Alex Ferguson said: “It is a great boost for us to have Paul back as he is such a top-quality player.”

Scholes has been out since twisting his knee in the Champions League clash at Aalborg on September 30.

Initially it was thought he would be missing until the New Year but he has since made a quick recovery.

Scholes’ midfield guile has been missed by United in recent weeks.

Team-mate Darren Fletcher said: “Paul is still the best midfielder in Europe, if not the world. Nobody can really control a game like he can.”

Fergie will play a weakened team in tonight’s quarter-final, including keeper Ben Foster.

For some bizzare reason the televised game in India is Watford-Spurs.

Yeah, it seems this game isn't on tv? That's normal when you're dealing with United and Carling Cup. I don't get it. Champions of England, champions of Europe, and no channel shows our game tonight.

Tevez and Welbeck to start up front hopefully, I'd say put Manucho and draft in Macheda on the bench too. I can see Blackburn being stern in defence so we should go with a couple more striking options on the bench. Federico Macheda's performances this season have warranted a place on the bench in the Carling Cup in my opinion though I do doubt it to be honest.

I think SAF needs to play a strong side to keep up the momentum, we are heading in to a massively important period and we need to have the winning mentality behind us going in to Christmas and Japan.

Foster
Brown-Vida-Evans-JOS
Park-Fletch-Anderson-Nani
