Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers

Cried off?

What does he mean?

If he's injured he's injured, I can't really see Rio crying on the training pitch...

Carried....

I don't know, more likely then Rio being cried off the pitch though.

Because he cried about being carried off?

To cry off is to cancel an arrangement; I've heard it used to call in sick, so if he did actually say 'cry off' maybe it's got some Govan nuance to it and just means he's picked up a knock.

OK, I'm baffled. Has the phrase to "cry off" from something, really disappeared from the modern English language?

Previous results v Blackburn...

Man Utd 7-1 Blackburn - Berbatov x5, Park, Nani; Samba

09/10
Blackburn 0-0 Man Utd
Man Utd 2-0 Blackburn - Berbatov, Rooney

08/09
Man Utd 2-1 Blackburn - Rooney, Ronaldo; Santa Cruz

Man Utd 2-0 Blackburn - Ronaldo x2

06/07
Man Utd 4-1 Blackburn - Scholes, Carrick, Park, Solskjaer; Derbyshire
Blackburn 0-1 Man Utd - Saha

looking at these results I'd say Blackburn are not too shabby at their ground. we hardly ever win there.

But blackburn were a midtable side at that time.
They are bottom this season.

Will they have their defenders back for this? If not, they'll probably have a very makeshift backline too.

No excuses here. Must get a 3 points. Dropped points away to Stoke which was very annoying. No more "tough away, a point would do" bullshit.

Edit: feck. Didnt realize it was home
I blame the post above mine

Probably mentioned but I've just read that Blackburn have 10 players out. Could be a long afternoon for them.

so what we have 11 out injured or ill, who will pity us, there is no time for us to feel sorry for them.

This is stupid because United's squad is far better than Blackburns. Whilst every Blackburn player who is injured might not be first team, the ones that are will hurt Blackburn far harder

I think the point he is making that nobody has any time to consider how our injury problems may hinder our title challenge, or matches against our fully-fit rivals.

Blackburn wouldn't have any pity for us if we were to go into the FA Cup game against City with Carrick in defence so why should we worry about their predicament?

Why has pity suddenly come into it? Simply stated that they have as bad an injury record as us, which will hurt them a lot more than ours will, which could mean a tough afternoon for them.

Had a read at the Blackburn forum, there's a few who actually think Phil Jones is a judas, ehh..
Of course he should have stayed with Steve Kean and the fantastic Rovers team and said no to United..

So, Smalling and Evans out, Jones-Rio CB?

Edit: Just read that Rio "might" be on the bench and he "hopes" Jones will be fit. fecking hell, not looking good if none of them can play.

Valencia - Carrick - ? - Evra

Injuries are part and parcel of the game and both squads have a bad injury list just now. No time for pity as the other poster said. The players available going out there and doing the job is what's important.

Lindegaard

Rafael
Carrick
Jones
Evra

Valencia
Gibson
Giggs
Nani

Berbatov
Rooney

Subs: De Gea, Ferdinand, Fryers, Park, Morrison, Welbeck, Chicharito.

Edit: Forgot about Gibson.

I guess Gibson will play in midfield again as Carrick is still needed at the back.we might save Giggs for the newcastle and city match.

I think this game could be pogba's best chance of some game time

I'd still start with Gibson though

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Jones Evra
Gibson Carrick
Valencia Rooney Nani
Berbatov

Lindegaard; Fryers; Giggs, Park; Hernández, Welbeck

I'd honestly start Ferdinand if he can make the bench - I'd rather start him then sub him off than vice versa. Smalling should be back for Newcastle anyway - but we could still start Rio and sub him off again. Obviously, this would only be if we're in strong winning positions which I think we should be in these two games. We're very focused at the moment and I can't see us not putting even more pressure on City and closing the goal difference even more.

Final bench spot I would give to Fábio, Pogba, or Morrison if they're available - but SAF will probably go for Macheda or... Diouf. If we're winning 2-0+ by the hour, bring on Fryers and Park for probably Ferdinand and Valencia/Nani/Rafael and switch positions around a bit. I'd sub off Rooney for Welbeck or Hernández if that was the case too. Let Berba drop into Rooney's role and one of our other strikers lead the line.

I thought Fulham and Wigan would be tough games that we'd win about 2-0 and I feel the same about Blackburn despite their troubles. So we'll probably win 5-0 again :)

Don't think we'll see Rooney in the starting 11 tomorrow. Fergie might just change up the team again considering it's Blackburn and Newcastle/City away lurks around next week.

----------de Gea / Lindergard
Rafael-----Carrick----Jones------Evra
Valencia---Gibson----Giggs-----Nani
-----------Berbatov-Rooney

I think this should be enough.

"But the injuries are mounting up for us now – Phil Jones was down ill, Chris Smalling was ill, Rio Ferdinand called off with a back injury and Jonny Evans came off injured at half-time. We're getting our fair share

This quote seems to suggest that Rio wasn't crying at all, but merely calling. Made a phone call to excuse himself perhaps?

Rio isn't a cry baby...
