Manchester United vs. Bolton Wanderers

VDS

Fabio
Brown
Smalling
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Gibson
Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov

Kuszczak, Fletcher, Obertan, Nani, Hernandez, Anderson, Evans

I don't think Fabio will start, Fergie will use all the height he has available to cope with Davies and Elmander, hence O'Shea at CB and Gibson in there. Berbatov will probably come in for Hernandez, which is unfortunate.

Based on today's presser we could see:

VDS
Fabio Smalling Brown Evra
Valencia Carrick Giggs Nani
Rooney Berbatov

Easily good enough to see off Bolton.

Kevin Davies will bully our defenders
we wouldve started Oshea, vidic and rio. all 3 had they been fit

the midfield onwards, its good. the backline can crumble under pressure

Bolton are a decent side. they are 7th on merit

We should not be scared of Davies. Stick Smalling on him and we'll be fine. The problems are more likely to come from their agile players (Lee/Elmander).

I'm going on Saturday, still haven't witnessed us losing points when I go to OT so I hope that Saturday won't be any different. I'm hoping Fergie keeps faith in Rooney-Hernandez as it will defo give us goals.

According to the official website, Rio and Vidic will miss this match, as will O'Shea and Rafael as we all know. Fletcher is still struck down by a virus, Anderson has started running again, and close to returning (although it might not be this weekend) Scholes is suspended. Also says that Hargreaves has trained all week, while Park has been training also. Owen should be fit for the match.

Subs:

PIG, Evans, Giggs, Hargreaves, Park, Owen, Chicharito.

Davies isn't the threat. The threat is the creativity of Holden and Lee.

I don't see why Hernandez would be benched, he's scored 5 in his last 4 starts and is striking up a great understanding with Rooney, given how depleted we are in defense I don't see it as a good idea to mess with an attack that is working.

Davies isn't the threat. The threat is the creativity of Holden and Lee.

Lee's only been in and out of the team since getting back from the Asia Cup. Dunno if he's been struggling from a bit of fatigue or what but I don't expect him to start against us.

He'll come off the bench though.

I expect their team will be:

Jaaskelainen
Steinnsen Wheater Cahill Robinson
Elmander Muamba Holden Taylor
Davies Sturridge

they are going to be a serious threat at set pieces with that team

Just hope we keep it tight and some of nani/rooney/hernandez/berbatov/valencia are on form

Starting 11
---------------Van Der Sar--------------
Fabio-------Smalling------Brown-----Evra
Valencia----Carrick------Giggs-------Nani

Subs

I could see this team. All these injuries and suspensions have left it down to this. Defensively it's a bit of a concern but at least our attack is looking strong again. Against Bolton at Home I expect us to dominate possession and ensure their threat is minimal. We should have too much for them.

No Petrov?

He was impressive against Birmingham in FA Cup.

He gets rotated quite a bit and Taylor seems to be Coyle's choice in bigger games as he's more disciplined, especially in games where they have Davies, Elmander and Sturridge in the side. Having said that it's 50:50 between the 2 of them.

With my track record of jinxes I shouldn't say this but Bolton have been miles better at home than away this season (total opposite for us, obviously) and they haven't won away from home since a 3-2 against Wolves back in mid-November.

You have to go back a long, long way for the last time Bolton got anything at OT (2002).

Coyle's got Bolton motoring this season and it won't be an easy game but I fancy we'll win this one 2-0.

Berba will finally get back into the side and score both goals knowing him!

we'll win comfortably... we've beaten arsenal and marseilles with our decent players and good tactics/play... no worries...

SAF will be reluctant to start with 2 short fullbacks against Davies - I don't think he has ever started bother Rafael and Evra against a team known for long balls into the box? He prefers O'shea height this then means the team tries to attack Evra but as Vidic plays on the left of the 2 centrebacks he comes across and helps Evra out. If you play with both short fullbacks against a team known for long balls it will split the centrebacks up.

I would stick Evans in the centre with Wes on rightback patrol.

2:2

Nani, Rooney

Elmander, Davies

We're at home.

We'll win, and it will be a comfortable win too.

I guarantee Rooney will score from a header that will come in from a cross on the right after Nani/Valencia skins Paul Robinson.

Rooney will have moved away from his marker (Wheater) and will have positioned himself inbetween the 2 centre halves.

Evans has been shocking this season though and will be rusty too.

I'd stick him at right back and leave Wes in the middle. It's the lesser of the 2 evils.

Has evans ever played right back?

I know he will be rusty but I would still play him over Fabio as we do need the height in the box - didnt they score this season from a corner?

Berba must play - I keep on repeating this even if he has an ordinary game up front he is very good for us covering the near post at corners.

He's played left back for NI and he played there earlier this season for us too iirc (it was either left back or right back) and he was actually quite decent. Much better going forward than I expected.

Any chance of Hargreaves at Right Back? He's back training isn't he?

I'd avoid it, I'd sooner play Evra there with Fabio left. Heck I'd even opt for Valencia or Rooney there before Hargreaves. Too big a risk to ask him to adjust there so early.

I'd disagree, I think Evans has improved and will work better with Brown, while he is at CB.

So, optimistically, the fit players we have fit are:

van der Sar, Kuszczak
Evra, Brown, Smalling, Fabio, J Evans
Hargreaves, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Fletcher, Valencia, Gibson
Owen, Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez.

To state the obvious, it's only at the back where the problem might be. As I've heard, Hargreaves and Anderson have trained in the last week (don't get me wrong, it's not as if they're both going to start or anything, but all the same), Fletcher I don't know about though.

Evans has improved? When exactly? He's been injured for quite a bit and his last match was the defeat against Wolves where he was again pretty awful.

-----------VDS
Fletcher(he is an 84 on FIFA 11 at RB good enough for me)-Smalling-Vidic-Evra

Let's not go there.

I'd rather not see Evans play but considering our options or lack of....let's hope we see the Evans that kept Drogba and Raul quiet rather than than the one skinned by Carlton Cole.

If he's been training then let's trust the judgement of the coaches on this.
