We've spent years without proper coaching for ball retention, eduring the formative years of some palyers's careers. McTom for instance, it's unfortunate but he may have been slightly better, at least like Fletcher if we were coached properly. He's not brilliant, but he'd be less error prone than now. Ball retention is something coachable, Mourinho and Ole both favoured man-management and countering than modern pressing (iirc)
