Manchester United vs. Celtic

Fergies Formula -

------------- Van Der Sar -------------
- Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - O'Shea -
-Nani - Fletcher - Anderson - Ronaldo-
------------ Rooney - Tevez ------------

Why has no one predicted Berbatov to start? Is he injured?

Just that Tevez hasn't started a game for us for a while and we can't drop Rooney.

Evra injured. Sod knows who will actually get the nod at right back. I don't think Fletcher-Giggs will be adequate in this sort of game in central midfield. Tevez deserves a game, but Rooney and Berbatov are in the midst of striking up a nice partnership.

We'll win this one well.

That would be my guess too unless Evra is fit. Does Evans play at left back, and is O'Shea better than him or is it just that he has more experience?

Don't know why O'Shea is getting stick, flavour of the month to be slagged off it seems.

He's a more than capable left back and a very handy player to have in the squad.

His crossing was shite against WBA i give you that but only because he was trying to put the ball in with his left to keep up the momentum of the attack.

Get off his back.

Just been speaking to a Siddy fan. He's helping out as Security as they're under staffed. Nice to know everyone's in safe hands eh :nervous:

Absolutely loads and loads of the staff at OT are City fans.

That would be my exact team. When Rooney is in this form he can't be dropped and Evans is more than capable at playing left back. Anderson comes back in to give our midfield extra bite.

And you know this how...?

A friend of mine used to work there.

It's because when United are at home city are away so it doesn't interfere with their City season tickets etc.

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

-------------------------VDS-----------------------
Brown--------Ferdinand---------Evans--------O'Shea
Ronaldo-------Anderson--------Fletcher---------Nani
-------------Berbatov----------Rooney-------------

Score: Manchester United 3 - 0 Celtic

Goals: Rooney, Ronaldo, Berbatov

Player to watch: Anderson

Jacob's predictions get better and better every time. And by better, I actually mean worse. Why the hell would you just replace your centre half for the sake of it?!?

I agree with Longlivekeano team selection with the exception of O'Shea at left back.

Berbatov and Rooney are showing good form and scoring goals, I don't think we need to break that up yet even if Tevez does need a game. He'll get his chance at some point and when he does it's up to him to put in the performance needed to challenge Berbatov and Rooney.

Agree. I can't see the logic in just randomly throwing Evans into a big game like this one.

Patrice Evra has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Celtic on Tuesday after failing to shrug off a hamstring complaint.

The French full back limped out of The Red Devils’ Premier League win over West Brom on Saturday and played just a limited part in training on Monday.

Evra still felt discomfort in his hamstring on Monday and the club have taken the decision to rest him for the visit of Celtic.

Sir Alex Ferguson feels the problem is only minor, but is not prepared to gamble on the Frenchman.

"It's too big a risk when it's a hamstring injury," Ferguson told a press conference. "He should be okay for Saturday [against Everton]."

John O’Shea replaced Evra against The Baggies and is likely to deputise again on Tuesday.

You can never predict a Fergie line-up, and by that theory I made an unexpected change. Btw, Celtic aren't that big and Evans is class, he showed that at the Bridge. I got the score right last game

You mean something like Chelsea away ?

You mean the game when Vidic was suspended?? :wenger:

My point is that Vidic is perfectly fit, as is Rio so i don't see the point in taking one out for a game such as this one.

It's true - you cant. But i reckon you'll have at least 2 players in your lineup wrong for tomorrow's game.

Sir Alex Ferguson will not rush Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to full match sharpness, so much so that he is considering whether to leave the Portuguese winger on the bench against Celtic on Tuesday.

The Reds boss paid tribute to Ronaldo’s personal characteristics and his athletic attributes, saying that he is capable of raising his game on demand. But his ability to recover from a Saturday game for a Tuesday Champions League tie are perhaps not yet at their usual superhuman levels – the after effects of a summer without training due to an ankle surgery.

“He’s coming along terrifically well,” said the United manager. “It’s almost there. With 20 minutes to go on Saturday when Gary Neville went on, I said to Gary, ‘ask Ronaldo how he is’. I thought he was showing signs of tiring.

“Gary asked him and Ronaldo said, ‘I think it’s time to come off’. Five minutes later he told Gary, ‘I’m feeling good now’. Maybe the fact that Gary told him he might be coming off lifted him a bit. You find that with the type of human being, the type of athlete he is. He will find something. When he needs it he finds it.

“One touch and he could score. He has got such a talent in the box. I think he’ll win the Ballon d’Or. If he doesn’t win it, I want to sign the guy who does.”

Ronaldo played in both Portugal matches during the recent round of World Cup qualifiers. It prompted a conversation between Sir Alex and his former assistant, now Portugal manager, Carlos Queiroz.

“I spoke to Carlos [Queiroz] and asked him what he thought [about Ronaldo’s match fitness]. He said he thought Cristiano was still finding it hard to recover from a Saturday game to play on a Wednesday. Carlos thought he was magnificent against Sweden on the Saturday, showing maturity, decision-making, everything… but on the Wednesday he was a little flat. That’s simply because he is still working on his recovery from games.

“Against Celtic, with it being Saturday to Tuesday, it would be perfect if we had an extra day. We’re just looking at the situation and whether we should bring in Nani for this one.

“We’ve got the option to bring Nani in because he only played 30 minutes for Portugal on Wednesday. When you get so many games in a row after spending time out injured, there is a response to playing all the time. The adrenalin makes you OK one game, but then your performance dips a little bit.”

nani + park it is then

or could rafael get a game

or posse in te middle and fletch right

Actually, I'm going to change my mind a little.

GK: Edwin van der Sar #1

RW: Park Ji-Sung #13
CM: Darren Fletcher #24
CM: Ryan Giggs #11 (c)
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo #7

FW: Dimitar Berbatov #9
FW: Wayne Rooney #10

----------------- Van der Sar ----------------
Brown ----- Ferdiannd ----- Vidić ----- O'Shea

Park -------------- Rooney ----------- Ronaldo
------------------ Berbatov ------------------

Subs: Ben Foster #12, Gary Neville #2, Jonny Evans #23, Rafael Da Silva #21, Anderson #8, Carlos Tévez #32 & Nani #17.

The team that played against West Brom played well, and I don't see why Sir Alex should bother chopping and changing it before the game. The only likely switches are to see Anderson coming into the midfield as Giggs played a long time at the weekend, and Neville in instead of Brown/Rafael. Tévez and Nani could also be likely starters, but I prefer Park to start games at the moment, and the Berbatov + Rooney combo.

I'd like to see Ronaldo on the left first of all, to give us more going forward down the left. As Brown is better at going forward than O'Shea, so having Park on the right at first is fine.

Edit, just read the post above. Nani > Ronaldo if he's left on the bench, but I'd rather see Ronaldo play to be honest.

Fergie in Torment Over Trio

Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov could start together

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is tempted to unleash Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez in the same starting XI.

The Manchester United manager has a major selection dilemma ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Celtic.

Rooney has been in scintillating form of late, while Berbatov is also playing well following his switch from Tottenham and Tevez is itching for a chance.

Ferguson may be reluctant to start with all three players up front but he is keen to find a way to accommodate his brightest talents.

"My torment," he said, when asked what he was going to do.

"It is very difficult trying to gauge whether I can play the three of them together.

"I have been thinking about it for a couple of weeks now. It is possible, with one of them playing in behind.

"It is a very difficult situation because they are all terrific players."

Ferguson is convinced that United are now much stronger than when they faced Celtic in the group stage two years ago.

"The squad is much better," he said.

"We have bought Berbatov, Tevez, Anderson and Nani since then.

"Plus there is a general improvement in the team, which you can see in the progress we have made over the last two years.

"It is not easy to win leagues down here but we have done it well."

Sky Sports

Berbatov, Rooney and Tevez up front. I wouldnt mind seeing us try this tactic against Celtic.

Based on what Fergie has said before the game ive decided to see how this team would work. It looks very interesting on paper. Plenty of pace, power, skill, movement and attacking intent. Defensively its a bit of a concern but we play to win at home anyway.

-Nani-------Fletcher-----Anderson-

------------Rooney-----------

------Berbatov----Tevez------

I'd take O'Shea over Nani in the midfield every day of the week. I'd even take Gibson over him there. Need someone to be disciplined and sit back if we want to do that.

......Brown...Rio...Vida...O'Shea.....
....Park....Fletcher...Ando...Nani....

PIG; Rafael, Evans, Neville; Ronaldo, Giggs; Berbatov
