Manchester United vs. CFR Cluj

So what was the important lesson today? Rooney is not a winger and I hope Fergie got a good look at how ineffective he is in that spot. He should have at least, being in the stands for the whole match.

Well done cluj. They scored a wonderstrike but it was a really poor effort from Scholes giving away the ball and then inexplicably diving in and leaving a huge gap at the back. Just disappointing from the old heads again. Neither performed particularly well and the sad thing is that they tried hard in this one.

Can't fault the team for effort. I thought Welbeck, Buttner and Cleverley (for a half) did quite well. Buttner especially is looking like he is settling in at last and this was probably his most assured and confident performance. If he can reproduce this kind of game in the Premiership then Evra needs to watch out.

I guess we were all wrong to complain about zombie passing to the wings. At least when we had fit and healthy wingers we could score a few goals against an average defence. Without them, we look absolutely lost and incapable of passing it through the middle.

I just hope this serves as a wakeup call for the derby match but its not like the personnel will be very different from what we saw today. With Cleverley probably out, we are back to having to play at least one of Scholes or Giggs.

FC Porto,AC Milan, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk ,Valencia, Celtic

teams we can meet.

About what I expected from what amounted to a friendly for us.

The fact of the matter is, if that is/was the mentality of the management and players, then it is down right disgraceful. 70,000 people paid good money to watch that match tonight.

I really should change my priorities. Watching the full 90 of this shite instead of doing something for Uni just gives me guilty conscience.

You know exactly what I meant.

And you know what I meant. You pays your money to get into the game, that is it. People must have had a good clue ahead of time that they would not be seeing much from this game.

Our form has not been great this year, that is true. It would be a little bit silly to suddenly expect us to snap out of it in a game that has no meaning at all for the team in terms of where it finishes in the CL. I did not expect to see a sudden change in form, and not sure why anyone else would have been either.

Can't wait to see Fergie's excuse for this. I've got a few.

Players out of position and out of form. Injuries and injury prone players. A diamond formation that we simply don't have the players to play. A midfield lacking mobility, physicality and creativity. Players swanning about hardly trying, arrogance of team selection. A pale shadow the great team we once were, feel sorry for the fans who were there tonight. Thoroughally disappointed again.

fecks me off that fergie thinks this performance tonight was ok.

I really hoped he would be pissed tonight, no matter the team he out out young
Or old it was not good enough. Standards are slipping.

Fergie fails to mention to Madrid. He'll be in for a shock then if we get them

Fair point buddy.

Watching our home group games is depressing. We need a group of death next season

Yeah, imagine how great it'll be when we find it hard to qualify. Can't wait really.

Seriously, an easy group is great. It starts at the knockouts. We did what we had to do.

We won the first 4 games, clinched the group. Exactly what we needed, not shocked at all our form was not great the last 2 games, has not been great all season in truth. Perhaps since once we clinched the group I expected us not to care much about the last 2 games, that makes it easier for me not to get very upset about them.

I refuse to believe that Welbeck has been on the pitch the whole game. He's done absolutely nothing. Almost literally.

He does one run a game
And that's it. He's been rubbish all season. I've said it before on here and been slated. He aint good enough.

A caller just phoned in to MUTV now, saying that "Ferguson needs to go to Specsavers". Lou and Quinton looking very uncomfortable as they listen to him.

People shouldn't overreact over a game that was essentially a friendly. It was a mish-mash of players and there were some encouraging signs in Jones, Buttner and Powell.

However, we really do lack imagination. Too many players are lacking confidence and afraid to take a gamble - even Rooney kept miss-hitting the ball because he seemed reluctant to give it a full-blooded whack.

Only managed about 20 mins before falling asleep. Was it really that bad?

The only time I ever fell asleep was that footballers on drugs thing last year, where they had a 'big name' on drugs on it was some shit footballer.

I had the game on but was busy studying. Didn't really pay attention to the game. How did we play?

Thought the lads did well and gained some very useful experience in the game, Wooton impressed me and kept his composure all game for me.

Rooney was obviously told to take it easy and put in a position where he wouldn't have to work as hard. He'll be firing on all cylinders against City I think.

The second Macheda came on I knew we'd be getting feck all from it though, I think he should move on in January/the Summer, good work ethic but not United quality I'm afraid, he's had ample opportunity to prove himself.
