He needs to do both, move into space, pull apart the defenders and create space for other in behind or stretch the play and make room in between their midfield and defence. That's how a good striker leads to line in a one up front setup. He's just stood somewhere in between doing neither, and then you wonder why our midfielders have nowhere to pass the ball when we actually get it.
