Felt sorry for him during the first 15 minutes or so. When it was him vs. their entire midfield (plus Mike Dean) while Fletch and Scholes hung back in our own half. He's been fine when we actually have players in their half to keep their defense honest.
It's times like these I wish SAF wouldn't wait until the 60 minute mark to make substitutions.

Can't see how we can score tho. No pace on the flanks, Berbatov is geting closed down by 2-3 at a time, Valencia glued to the line, no one to make the run or beat his man(bar Park penalty cry). We need Macheda up front or just to have a target man. Nani could do the difference I reckon.

Central midfield has been poor. I guess because Fletcher isnt tearing it up 100%, saving some of his legs for Bayern. Giggs has been poor on the left, Park and Valencia havent been much better. Giggs has usually been a second half player this season so thats one slight positive... Berbatov had a good start, faded, came back into it at the end. Too easy to say that if Rooney had been playing all would be well. We havent provided very well at all except for that one chance at the end where he turned back.

Poor performance, just can't see us scoring, we look like we could get some joy out wide but there's no one in the box to finish the crosses so god knows where a goal can come from.

Because he is not passing to players who could bring the ball under control no matter what. Ronaldo would have been able to have control at least two of the passes Valencia messed up.
I am not dogging Valencia, just saying that the ability of the player receiving the ball from Scholes matters.
Berba's not the problem. We're not controlling the midfield and have no creativity or width on the left, which is putting too much pressure on Valencia. Nani for Giggs, Carrick for Scholes, and possibly Rafa for Gaz.

There are matches where Rooney gets hardly any service but he makes things happen. Not once has Berbatov even looked like he's going to get in behind Terry or Alex. He got the ball in the box once and took ages to make a decision and Lampard took it off him.
The personnel isn't the problem as much as positioning.
1 up front with Berbatov is just too comfortable for the Chelsea defence, and the extra man in midfield doesn't even seem to be there anyway.

It's a game of two halfs lads.
No ones doing a better job in there. Every balls thats dropped into the midfield has been Chelsea's. Carrick's positioning will help that. Bring on Nani for Giggs maybe Carrick after the 60th minute for Scholes and Macheda on for Park in the last twenty. Change it up to a 4-4-2.

Scholes looks worn, need him off the pitch he's of no help for us today. Get Carrick on he might be fresher.
