Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

What the hell happened to Zeki Fryers there? Just went down two times in a row without anyone near him.

We have spent around 40m this year havent we? However if you mention salaries then you've got a point.

We've made some good buys, but that doesn't help the squad in depth, does it.

A deserved loss. Not much to say about the rest. Its amazing that until 2 minutes til the end of extra time we barely got the ball wide and into the box. Palace were set up to defend and we made it so much easier for them by playing as narrowly as we did Valencia was virtually in centre midfield. Shocking. Based on that showing it would've been unjust if Palace had gone out to us. We were poor besides Smalling who actually emerges from that with credit IMHO. Awful.

scary how we can have 3 players centrally in attack - 3 players behind them 30 yards from goal - and all they do is pass it back and forth without even looking for a way to create chances.

Zeki was being molested by the air.

Looked like what it was, a proper team who play week in week out together mainly against a load of young players, fringe players, out of favour or ones back from injury.

Not bothered about the attention and mocking this will attract, its more that we've pretty much handed City or Liverpool a trophy. Oh well, just hope we win something big come May to top it.

Credit to Palace, though they were barely made to work to be honest. Never seen such a static front line, fecking shocking.

Well that was pretty poor...

Fergie should tell Chris Smalling to leave the room, tell Gibson to stand halfway in and halfway out of the room, then let rip. I imagine they will all be better for it.

I remember Fergie being angry after Southend and Coventry and sent players out on loan just after it, I guess we will see the same now.

Can't blame the young lads, Fergie didn't have a single senior player on the bench, it was suicide. Valencia worked as hard as humanly possible but Park got worse as the game went on and Pogba looked every bit the reserve player. Smalling was class, Evans should have stopped their second, but in the end it all comes down to the crazy bench selection.

Amazing how our form has dropped since the start of the season. From swashbuckling football to losing two games at home and generally playing poor football.

He'll loan them for sure now that we got kicked out from the CC

better second half and extra time but overall simply not good enough when you consider Palace hadn't scored in the last 5 games.

In a way I'm glad, judging by the way we're playing we'd have got a real hiding in the semi's anyway. Save the legs and concentrate on the league and hopefully get by the mighty Basel.

We actually aren't creating chances. That's the problem. A hopeful cross or a whack from distance isn't a chance.

We weren't even going wide, god knows the feck we were doing till the 117th minute.. just fecking get it wide and hope for something rather than going through a brick wall..

Pfffft. Load of rubbish.

A few last games for United there - Diouf, Macheda (sadly).

Credit to Smalling - only starter to come out with any credit.

The subs weren't bad, but couldn't turn the tide of an utter shite performance and complete lack of movement up front.

Zeki looked like a fish out of water.

Many young players have a long way to go before they even can be consider as first team options.

And the sad thing is that even some of the older one's where disappointing.

Evans
Gibson
Pogba
Ravel
Zeke

The depth is generally fine, all the players out there apart from the youngsters and Diouf who's clearly not good enough, have racked up loads of games against tougher opposition. This is just what we've seen from united too often when Fergie makes changes. There's just too many players coming in who are rusty at the same time and on top of that players playing out of position. At least if you play the youngsters they should be sharper having been playing in the reserves and they have the hunger to impress which usually boosts the team.

At least Smalling is back which is good. Morrison looked good once again. He played a few loose balls but most of his passing was neat and clever, good movement as well, had he been playing with some of our more in form and better players I think he'd fit in well.

I remember close ups of Evans, but little else, for good or bad.

We had far too many experienced players just not play anywhere near their best tonight. This coupled with players returning from injury or no game time meant a very poor performance overall.

Smalling played well, Gibson was ok in the middle of the park, Amos wasn't a lot he could do about tonight but a lot of the rest of the team just didnt perform.

For the last few games we have looked good on the ball up until the final third and we are either snatching at chances or failing to create anything when it comes to the final ball.

Well played Palace though they performed on the night even with a strong hint of offside for their winner they looked more up for it than a lot of our team.

On the basis of what I've seen you have to wonder what Kiko and Diouf are doing in the reserves to deserve a place in the first team. Diouf in particular brings almost nothing to the table. Even the commentator who was fair for most of the game took to mocking him...

I disagree on that. Jones can cover CB, RB and CM while Ashley Young can play on both flanks and forward line. That does help the squad in depth. What is nailing us are 3 things. Injuries (we have too many of them) and SAF's obsession in overrating value signings (we lost more then 13m in shite players like Bebe, Tosic and Diouf) and not bringing in a good quality CM.

Being a bad player is all well and good but the effort put into the game by Diouf was pathetic. This mam is being paid for the privilege of playing for Manchester United and he could barely be arsed. This is a player who would struggle in the Championship. What's he doing at the club?

It's only a matter of time before he has to stop playing football and live in the sea again.
