Manchester United vs. Everton

Everton will give it everything, it will be a Cup final for them. Did you see the way they celebrated when the full time whistle went at Goodiston? That celebration could only be matched by winning a Champions League. They went absolutely mental.

That's part of the price of being United. And clubs are in their right to give an extra 10% against us, as annoying as it can be.

I think Everton will win because of how important it is to them and how much emphasis they put on this fixture. United can't field their strongest XI and we'll get caught out.

So I guess next 4 days will challenge notion #mufc can put out 2 competitive XIs. SAF confirms he'll make 11 changes. #efc no mugs. #risky

@ManUnitedYouth "you say 2 different teams, you mean physically making wholesale 10/11 changes?" SAF "yes exactly"

I won't believe he'll make 10/11 changes until I see it. That's a serious decision and the biggest backlash will come of it if neither game produces a positive result.

You don't usually see such wholesale changes unless it's quite clearly a majorly inferior team.

If we are talking two completely different sides do we assume the following?

Everton? Lindegaard, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Buttner, Scholes, Anderson, Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck, Hernandez

Madrid? De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Nani, Rooney, Young, RVP

It's very out of character for me. But if it works, fabulous.

I think it would be a massive mistake to change a full 11, obviously I would expect some players to changed but we are playing against a good side here.

Obviously if City lose it will make it easier to drop more players but I think they will come back and win in the second half.

If city lose I suppose tomorrow is a free hit for us, obviously we don't want to lose but everyone would have been happy to come out of this weekend with a 9 point lead so even a draw would be a bonus if that happens.

IMO it's dangerous to make wholesale changes. Even if the bitters game scoreline stays the same, we don't want to go giving away points. Win the game and then concentrate on resting important players.

See I'd have thought we'd have gone for it this weekend and vs Madrid, all guns blazing then took it lightly by making wholesale changes against Reading.

Suppose the internationals must have put doubts in Sir Alex's mind in regards to his main players being 100% fit and ready for both Madrid and Everton.

Either way, I sit on the fence and lean towards the risk side rather than the safe side. I've rarely felt confident in wholesale changes over the years. I'm a believer of momentum generating that extra running and drive. Plenty of other chances of extended rest, especially with that FA Cup tie next Monday.

This. We need to start with atleast one of RvP/Rooney and have Carrick and Vidic playing as well. Win this match and we could be 11/12 points up if City don't win.

I would go for the best team expect starting Hernandez and have RvP on the bench.

No matter who we play Everton is going to be a tight match most likely, so don't think we'll be in a position to win the game early and then rest players.

The title is not going to be won tomorrow but what a chance we have to take a firm grip on the title race.

Play the best-11 (except Rio), this is too good an opportunity to throw away.

Strongest team tomorrow, Fergie.

Yep. Priority has to be on the league. We have to make City pay for their feck ups. A win tomorrow will make them feel even worse.

Exactly, so why take risks? I think we'd be in a far better position to do what I said if we played the first XI rather than if were to change the entire team.

I guarantee the people advocating making wholesale changes will be the first ones complaining if it goes tits up. We can get away with maybe 2 or 3, maybe 4 at a push but definitely not wholesale. Win the game first and foremost.

People are acting like it's the first time we've found ourselves in this position. I remember a couple of years ago when our defence was pretty much non-existent through injury and we managed to draw with Porto at home, and then beat Villa on Sunday and then play Porto again on the Tuesday. It's nothing new.

The only way we capitalise on City dropping points is if we continue to win ourown games. Strongest team and three points please.

Just like last seasons 4-4 feck up tomorrow could define a major part of the season. It's a huge game even more so now City lost, full team and 3 points will be a huge bonus for us.

I want to absolutely smash them now, put them in their place, and send a clear message to City

Don't know why you all keep saying we should play our strongest possible team. Like it or not SAF has already said he's going to rotate and use our squad with the Madrid game in mind. He's also had a moan about Madrid's extra day of rest. I'm expecting 5-6 changes from the team that will face Madrid.

I'd be well annoyed if we don't get anything out of the game tomorrow. People saying that it's not such a bad position to be in as city lost today but IMO we shouldn't give a shit about their results. Losing points at home shouldn't be acceptable, regardless of what our rivals do.

I think we'll play this team against Everton:

de Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Rooney, Welbeck.

And this team against Madrid:

de Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Kagawa, Rooney, van Persie.

Still a balance and still a quality about both of those sides who will win comfortably if they play well.

Really couldn't care less about the Madrid game but unfortunately there's no way Fergie is going to think the same way. I really hope we don't make wholesale changes. Everton haven't won many games off late so we need to put out a good side and win this quickly. RvP and Clev just played the 45 mins mid week and Carrick got a much needed rest as well so hopefully all of them play. This is a massive massive chance for us!

I have a feeling we'll go for Smalling/Jones instead of Rafael to deal with Fellaini tomorrow.

Sir Alex will meet us in the middle. It will be half and half. I think RvP or Rooney will start, but get taken off in 2nd half.

The league is the most important thing to me this season. Lets put another nail in the bitters coffin with a strong team and whatever happens against Real will be a bonus.

De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Büttner, Carrick & Anderson just had a week off. RVP only played 45 minutes, Rooney is in brilliant form and can manage three games in the space of a week. Nani/Valencia only flew to Portugal, so it leaves Hernandez and Kagawa travelling half way around the world. I think we'll be fine playing a strong team tomorrow. No need for Jones in midfield, Carrick/Anderson can do the job with two of Nani/Valcenia/Welbeck/Young wide. One of RVP/Rooney should definitely start.

Play the best team tomorrow and get the 12 point gap. We can worry about Madrid later

Tomorrow is a must win. I don't buy this shit that because we've a 9 point cushion that we can afford to drop points. Complete crap. If we go into tomorrow thinking we've a good cushion, then that could be a downfall for us IMO.

Let's get the win tomorrow, and get 12 points clear with 12 games remaining.

which game will vidic play? need him vs fellaini but can we do without him vs real?

I'd be surprised if Rafael played tomorrow too. Would be decent to have Vidic, but I think he and Rio will be saved for Madrid.

Priority for me has to be Madrid. I'd rest anyone that played midweek and will start in Madrid, plus Ferdinand and Vidic.

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Buttner
Valencia Carrick Anderson Giggs
Welbeck Hernandez

The good, old "one game at a time" cliche is officially dead and buried then? :nervous:

A win is of the essence tomorrow. Welbeck to secure it for us!

I'd be content if Rio is saved for Madrid, and maybe Hernandez plays with Van Persie on the bench but other than that, strongest team please.

That looks good to me

I think after tonight's result you will capitalise and beat us comfortably or we will beat you by a goal. Can't see a draw now.

lol @ lads early in this thread thinking fergie wasn't going to make changes en masse.

the RM tie is too big.

Exactly.

It's a massive, massive tie. And we all know how much Fergie hates Madrid.

The whole world will be watching that game and we need to be close to a 100%.
