I'd definitely say we've improved. Got rid of Rooney, added Matic and Lukaku. And our performances have been better. But today feels like last season. Playing without a midfield coupled with poor performances (the worst I've seen from Rashford for instance).

We have improved chance creation from midfield thanks to Matic. Lukaku is only a replacement for Zlatan. But our attack has not improved much. We depend on the same players raising their game this season, but so far, it hasn't happened.

Reasonable to expect 8-10 goals minimum from Rashford, Martial, Mata and Mkhi in the league but so far they have mostly disappointed. Maybe Ibra can improve our attack when he comes in, but we shouldn't be relying on him.

Why has this narrative about whether or not we'll give Rooney a good reception or the appropriate level of respect been the main theme of the build-up to, and now the in-match discussion? Do we have history of booing visiting legends that I'm not remembering?

Only ex-players I remember us booing where cnuts like Tevez and Heinze who left us on very bad terms - whilst teams like Everton have booed Rooney hugely, Liverpool booed Owen when he visited them with Newcastle (fair enough when he visited with us), Arsenal booed Fabregas, etc. Why the implication that we'd be cnuts to Rooney?

Rooney got a very warm reception before the game. During the game open season though, which is fair enoough.
