Manchester United vs. FC Oțelul Galați

Does Wilkins think that 'my word' will turn into some kind of lovable catchphrase of his that people will remember with fondness?

He seems to have started with 'bless him' as well. Dreadful commentary.

word

3 points
will do
apart from Owen, no other concerns
Never in doubt of dropping the points, not freeflowing either.

Boring on the whole, but not too many complaints.
Berba shouldve been played in by the team a few times during the game, not only because he got into great positions, but also because he desperately needs a goal.
He did well tho.

Nani and Andow were poor. Everyone else did alright

The most important thing is the win but what a shit performance. Too many times we lost possession without any pressure.

With the Basel result, my word this has turned out to be a good (albeit extremely boring) day.

We'll have europe shitting themselves after that performance.....

Oh, I dunno. I reckon a few of their band members could have done better than Nani tonight.

The only real positive of the night is that Benfica dropped points and we're top now.

It's safe to say we're the best team in Romania.

My bet was on us to get the second goal, reckon it will stand? Or will it go down as an OG?

Played like a team with their best player out of position and being surrounded by players who haven't played consistently enough to be in form or to have any semblance of confidence. Even those who have played often lack confidence after the debacle against City. Disappointing tonight but I wouldn't make any sweeping judgements. Need to get a bit of swagger and conviction back in our game, it's no surprise that the younger lads like Fabio, Jones and De Gea were our better players tonight. I think for once the international break could prove a blessing in disguise for us, rotation isn't helping right now but how else do you keep a squad happy, fit and relatively in form. I'd say this is typical early season blues, we'll get stronger as we go on.

Rooney played really well, but I don't want to see him there that often. We were desperately needing someone to drop deep and inject energy and get in the box...

Nani and Ando were total shite...

Nani at least has the excuse of being out of position on the left. Ando has no excuse. Absolute disgrace.

What's been our worst CL performance of the season? It's really hard to choose! Anyway we got the job done and are top of the group so I guess it's a good day

Was watching a Romanian stream. The commentator's response to the second goal was: "shit happens". Brilliant.

Plus points from tonight are that we won, Jones played well as did Rooney and Hernandez had everything but a finish. The rest...

...lets just hope we play better this weekend.

As well as Jones and Rooney, Fabio was also very good as well tonight. When called upon De Gea was excellent - his distribution and coming off his line was top notch. Berbatov was good at points in the build-up but poor when given a chance to score a goal though I can't blame him too much actually as he's barely played. Park looked bright when he came on. Evans was ok, didn't do anything wrong.

The rest of the team though - I'm actually gobsmacked at how poor they were. Anderson in particular seemed to walk everywhere and didn't show for the ball when we had possession. Valencia was anonymous apart from his goal, Nani wasn't tracking back, Hernandez tried hard but his touch was off tonight and while Rio didn't do anything wrong he hardly looked determined to make his mark on the team and didn't drive the other lads on at all.

Such a disappointing performance - it would have been understandable if we were a few goals up but to take our foot off the pedal at 1-0 was so dangerous.

Well, that's what. This was the ideal game for that. And instead of taking away some new found confidence, the likes of Anderson walk away wondering where the hell their footballing abilities disappeared tonight. Now I'm obviously exaggerating. We'll get better and probably hit our stride sooner rather than later. But I thought this was a great game to get our tails up and wagging for the tougher tests ahead. Anyways, onwards and upwards.

Poor performance but got the job done - this should be the new club motto. That's what Manchester United have been about for quite a long time now.

If we beat Benfica in the next game are we through?
Yes.

Even if we draw, but Basel don't win their match against Galaţi.

United 8, Benfica 8, Basel 5, Galaţi 0.

Hope we want to win the group, not only to get through!

Level on points at top of the group at this time - now matter of winning our next 2 games in the group.

We need four to win the group, but we need three v Benfica.

I expect us to beat them. At home.

No, I think if we beat Benfica, but Basel win in Romania, then they could knock us out by beating us in the last game. I think it's a situation where we all could finish on 11 points. And then we get the three team mini league table to decide.

Woud have been better if the other game tonight was a Benfica win.

Rooneys central midfield position is short term, confirmed by Fergie.

Thank you god.

Ahh, you're right.

So, we need to beat Benfica and get at least one point in Basel (can't see them losing to Galaţi).

That Basel game could be really tough.

we're going to have to play a hell of a lot better to make it to the finals this season. That was truly awful performance for large spells of the game.

damm should have beaten basel at home. now we can't rest players for the final game in switzerland.,

Dont sweat it lads, last two games we have won while playing poorly, we will hit a purple patch soon enough and then it will be spanking time!
