The point is that the match is today. In the last week Macheda has scored a hatrick and the winning goal in the last few mins against Villa, and impressed even before that. Had circumstances been different then he wouldn't even be under consideration for a place on the bench but this is the current environment. Lots of players appear to be short of confidence. Several are injured. Others are exhausted.

It was a risk to put Macheda on against Villa with 30 mins to go. It is far less of a risk to use him to get the crowd buzzing etc today. We are not a team playing well.

Put it this way, if Macheda starts would you expect the atmosphere to be more electric than say if Scholes is used in a 3 man midfield, or if Tevez is selected?

Do you want us to have a go at Porto or sit and hope to keep a clean sheet, and perhaps nick a goal at some point?

What are you on about? Yes, we've got Rooney, Tevez, Welbeck, Macheda and Ronaldo who can all play upfront so what has that got to do with Scholes? Why go off on a tangent about a rare few bad performances?
 
The boy wont start, he's had one senior game!!! He'll have a few minutes IF we're up or considerably down but we have plenty of talent to compensate. I'd rather Tevez start and tire himself again then bring him on, then have him start and potentially screw up the team and his confidence.

Park and Fletcher both have to start for me, Carrick for control, Giggs'll probably be spent from last game. Nani has done crap all for me this season but we could see him play.

Stop with all this Macheda starting crap, theres no chance of that! vidic, scholes, park and rooney are certs if fit, freshen things up a bit! Giggs prob wont get through 90 so he starts on the bench and comes on for tevez after 80.
 
I think the whole mood and the spirit of the camp will be lifted from saturdays win. And with Rooney and Vidic back, i think were going to have one of those memorable european nights tonight.

I like that lineup for the first leg. Keeping a clean sheet is very important and Fletcher and Park in front of the fullbacks should help keep things tight.

Give Ronnie the freedom to roam around the pitch and sit down for a rest whenever he fancies.
