Manchester United vs. Liverpool

The same team as last match, by far the best team we can start at this time. At home, there should be no Place for players like Valenica, Young and Welbeck.
Welbeck was great when he came on. RvP, Rooney, Mata, and Adnan are on paper our best attacking quartet, and with Carrick and Fellaini in behind we lack some serious pace to hurt teams on the counter. Welbeck is that player especially when we're winning and the opposition defence is tiring.

Gerrard isnt that good now to merit such a tactic.
Definitely not in his prime, but still the heartbeat of Liverpool's midfield.

I think one or both of Valencia/Young will start, but if we're going for the defensive wingers option I'd rather Nani and Welbeck were given the nod. Still, I think Mata will play wide so hopefully Welbeck, Nani or Young ( in that order) get chosen for the left spot.

Liverpool's left back position has been their biggest weakness this season. It's definitely a position we should look to exploit. I just hope Rafael is fit enough to start both tomorrow and midweek.

what a big week. a win tomorrow and the place would be rocking on wednesday. if we can pull two big results out of the bag, i can see us having huge momentum and possibly at least push liverpool close for 4th. win tomorrow its downto 8 and i can see them dropping at least 6 in april. tomorrow is basicallly the last chance to salvage something this season.

outside shout at city unravelling a little now. if they drop points today and we beat them and liverpool we could be just 4 points behind them soon. granted theyd have a game in hand.

I'm so up for this game now but there's a nagging fear that the team sheet is going to demolish my excitement.

I think we'll win.

All week they've been talking about how our 'fear factor' has gone, and thats as sure fire a way to know that coming to Old Trafford still affects them psychologically.

United to win a scrappy game 1-0.

Welbeck is far too good to be on that list and I wouldn't have any qualms about playing him tomorrow.

I agree that he is far better than Young and Valencia. But, we need to put the game to Liverpool and Welbeck on left or right wing will not help us dominate the game. He is also far behind our two main striker and there should not be any opening for him there.

We played one our best games this season against WBA and we should try to build on that, and not change Things and risk taking one step backwards. It's not only vital for this match, but for our season.

Football and especially the big games isn't about picking your best players. It's about striking a balance and winning the right areas. Welbeck is one of our best players talking in a tactical sense. He's an excellent specialist player who follows instructions to the letter.

It's interesting that you use the West Brom game as an example seeing as we played our best football in that game and really got going when Welbeck came on for Van Persie

I agree that it would be like that in most games. But, at home to a Liverpool side that gives a way lot of space, it really is important (using the best players).

To claim that Welbeck is our best tactical player is insane. He is often positioned a bit wrong in defence as he often tend to fail covering inside runs from midfield (when he Plays on the wing). Valencia, Young and Nani are all good at this. Another thing is that he never, ever start a run in the box before the pass/cross is hit and is poor at finding positions in general inside box. We really need that tomorrow as we will most likely sit deep and level with our midfield two and need attacking players that can cover space there as they will get few supporting runs and options from midfield.

So Olybiakos are playing their game today and will be well rested for the champions league match, why are we playing on Sunday when we have a Champions league match this week, shouldn't we have also played on Saturday?

$ky

If Moyes is gonna pick one of the more defensive minded players tomorrow than hope its either welbeck or Young. Valencia and Mata just doesn't seem a good fit for me as it only plays to Valencia's strengths. You want the other winger to keep wide at times but you also want him to run in so that Mata can try and put him in and Valencia won't do that. Welbeck hasn't been great wide but might benefit if told to make lots of diagonal runs towards the box with someone like Mata around.

Same here, mate.

As always with Cleverley/Valencia/Young, I'll support them when they're wearing our shirt, but I'd support Mata/Januzaj/Kagawa that little bit more if they were selected. :D

Such is Rooney's versatility we could play almost a 4-3-2-1 should Moyes want to, although the 4411 will suffice.

Rooney and Mata would be either side of RVP however they would track back wide in defence but drift narrower in attack with the full backs providing width and Jones + Fellaini supporting Carrick in the midfield.

This United team possesses a lot of versatility and had we a tactical mastermind in charge I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this implemented for a big game.

The 4411 will be the obvious choice however it doesn't come with any surprise and if Rooney doesn't drop deeper then it risks our midfield being over run. Even with a 4411 it depends on the players chosen and the roles of those players so Moyes still has the opportunity to show whether he has tactical skill.

For starters Rooney should be tasked with marking Gerrard out of the game.

This is what I thought too. Get Welbeck in there taking Gerrard out of the game and also putting huge pressure on Toure too.

It would be an advantage having Van Persie to bring off the bench rather than Welbeck IMO.

Toure? He's not going to play unless there's an injury to Skrtel.

Dippers are in town.

I had to check that wasn't a parody account. Bloody disgraceful behaviour by whoever tweeted that.

Obviously they'll know the connotations but dipper is slang for pickpocket, hence the reference to bags/pockets rather than bins.

To me if he plays Coutinho is the bigger danger, he feeds Suarez a lot of the time.

yeah but coutinho plays very far away from rooney. the point is that rooney would be right on top of gerrard, and perhaps should try neutralize him like danny welbz did vs xabi alonso

Looking forward to this game.

If everyone is fit, we should play the same side that beat WBA. Fellaini and Januzaj deserve to play.

In a one off game, we are more than capable of beating this Liverpool side. Rooney, RVP and Mata are all due a big game and Old Trafford should be a good atmosphere tomorrow.

Normally this season I have been expecting the worst going into most match but I really think we will get a result and a good performance tomorrow.

I assume the t-shirts are being printed all ready to demand justice after Liverpool was so shockingly victimised by GMP.

I don't see Moyes dropping RVP, Rooney, or Mata. I think it is a safe bet that he will play someone who is disciplined and good defensively on one of the two wings. So we won't see Januzaj unless he comes off the bench if we are losing. He could either go with Valencia on the right and Mata on the left or with Mata on the right and Young/Welbeck on the left. Of all three options, I think Welbeck is the best suited which is funny because in the quest to be solid defensively, we would end up with three strikers and one #10 on the pitch!

I personally think this game is made for Jones in midfield. Our other midfielders are too slow and Liverpool move the ball quickly. Jones can break up play and can be that extra man who tracks Suarez when he drops to pick up the ball. That gremlin likes to run at defenders and can shoot from outside the box so a midfielder who can track him is a good idea IMO. I don't expect Moyes to play him there and we will probably see Fellaini+Carrick in midfield which thankfully has looked formidable in the last two PL games.

I expect a score draw, 1-1 or 2-2.
