FA Cup call-up for Cathcart

Craig Cathcart could make his first appearance on the United bench on Monday night, when Middlesbrough visit Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-final replay.

The Belfast-born defender, who turned 18 only last month, was this week given the squad number 32. And further encouragement came his way on Saturday when Sir Alex Ferguson name-checked him after the Bolton match on MUTV.

"Craig Cathcart, the youth team captain, and Dong Fangzhou will be the only ones added (to Saturday's squad for Monday)," confirmed Sir Alex.

This call-up for Cathcart follows injuries to senior defenders Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre, who are expected to be out for three weeks and three months respectively.

Cathcart captained United's youth team in front of more than 38,000 fans at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. Arsenal won the FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg 1-0 - the return leg is at Old Trafford on Monday 3 April, kick-off 19:30 GMT.

Nice, good to see another highly rated youngster making it to the first team squad.

PIG
Brown-Rio-Vida-Heinze
Ronaldo-Carrick-Giggs-PJS
Rooney
Smith

Giggs and Ronaldo were brought off early vs Bolton today, Heinze should stay in as he is in form and I thought the forward 4 of Ronaldo-Rooney-Giggs-Park worked beautifully.

Smithy to get maybe 70 mins?

3-0

hopefully smith on the scoresheet but either way itll do his fitness good

smith rio heinze

I hope we can kill this game as fast as we did against Bolton.

Would be good if Ronnie, Roon and Giggs only had to play a half hour. :D

I thnik we should rest giggs, we looked tired yesterday.

yes I know, tribalfootball...

"Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed China international striker Dong Fangzhuo is in line to make his debut on Monday night in their FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough.
After their 4-1 victory over Bolton, Ferguson said he will draft youngsters Craig Cathcart and Dong Fangzhuo into his squad to face Boro on Monday night, when Ryan Giggs is likely to be rested."

I would be surprised if Giggs is rested, because he only played 60 min yesterday. But maybe Fergie want to give him a break before the Wales matches.

don't worry! i'm sure that SAF will be informing giggs that he has "a bit of a tight hamstring" in the next week...

Off topic for a minute but is Bentley suspended against us for getting sent off yesterday?
Yes, seeing as they don't have an FA Cup replay.

GK: Kuszczak

2-1 Rooney, Carrick.

Giggs def should be rested - think Smith should start, even if he only lasts 70mins - gotta get him going. If things are going well would be seriously tempted to bring Dong on for Rooney as well - just a pain in the arse Silv is injured as we couldve rested Rio or Vidic..... Heinze for CB anyone?????

I'm in Tauranga in New Zealand on holidays. Anyone knows where I can see the game, or what channel it's on?
Thanks...
